Name confusioncausing distressDon Kasza is not David Caza

In October 2005, things heated up forMerritt resident Don Kasza when a prolif-ic sex offender was relocated to Merrittafter being released from jail. The similari-ty of their names and resulting confusionmade things upsetting & stressful for Don.

David Caza had served 10 months forpossessing child pornography, and had ahistory of 42 convictions for sexual andviolent offences across Canada dating  back to 1981. But after the RCMP &

Solicitor-General’s office issued a warningabout Caza, concerned citizens of Merrittessentially ran him out of town. 5 daysafter arriving, he checked himself into theRCMP lock-up fearing for his safety. Andthen he moved to Kamloops.

Now, that confusion is rearing its headagain for Don with the news that Caza is1 of 3 BC men arrested as part of an inter-national investigation into online childpornography by Toronto police. 57 peopleworldwide have been charged with 218counts of child sex exploitation. Theimages number "in the tens of thousands,if not millions" according to Torontoinvestigators. So far, 25 children have been rescued: 10 in the US, 12 in Canada,and 3 in Europe. The 3 BC residents arecharged with possession and distribution

of pornography.Nothing to do with Don Kasza.

IHA notifiesendoscopy patients

Interior Health has sent letters toapprox. 9000 patients (primarily in theThompson Cariboo Shuswap region,

which includes Merritt) who underwentscoping procedures at RIH betweenMarch 6/08 and July 15/10 notifyingthem that the scopes used in their procedures may not have received full disinfection.They say the risk of infection transmission to patients is extremely low – between 1 in 1million & 1 in 10 million. No further testing is being recommended for patients, howev-er, Interior Health has taken the precautionary step to inform patients in the interest of transparency. And while the risk to patients is low, Interior Health recognizes patientsmay have follow-up questions and has established a phone line for this purpose.
