The terms "Drive Head", "Differential" and "Carrier" are generally used synonymously and refer tothe entire centre removable casting of a Meritor axle containing the crown wheel and pinion anddifferential mechanism.
Occasionally the word "differential" is used in its correct sense to apply specifically to the internalmechanism which allows the half shafts to rotate at different speeds

The gap between the ratios does not exceed 5% and this change will not affect axle durability andperformance.
The old ratios can still be purchased whilst stocks are available.
Please refer to the Cross Reference section at the rear of this catalogue to find out the correctdifferential required.
All Meritor differential assembly part numbers comprise of three sections
e.g A38 - 3200 - W - 1739 - 308
Prefix Base number Ratio
The prefix number changes from application to application and defines the variable features suchas drive coupling type, differential locks etc.
The base number is the same for all differentials assembled within a particular axle range. AllMeritor differential Base numbers start with the numbers 3200
The ratio is given as a 3 digit number directly after the differential part number.Example: A38 3200W1739-308This would signify that the axle ratio is 3.08:1

CLOSE-OUT ON STOCK OF FINE-PITCH BEVEL GEARS FOR SERIES 177EDIFFERENTIALSReasons for our decision to discontinue the production of Fine-Pitch bevel gears and to use Coarse- Pitch bevel gears exclusively:
1. The Coarse-Pitch crown and pinion have less teeth, which allows for: Better durability. Better resistance to wear and stress.
2. The Fine-Pitch design has 13 different gear ratios, while the Coarse-Pitch design has only 9, covering the same range.3. The Fine-Pitch design has only one standard design used for both trucks and buses while the Coarse-Pitch design offers specialized models for each ofthese vehicles.4. Machining of the final product to improve the durability and characteristics of the bevel gear.

Starting now and until all existing stock has been depleted, the above mentioned bevel gears will become progressively unavailable over time.
The following table lists our recommendations regarding how to proceed if you wish to replace the bevel gear.
From Fine Pitch Ratio 4.56 to Coarse Pitch Ratio 4.63 must be as well replaced the Diff case Assy (please refer to the Spare Part Lists)
The differences in gear ratios are minimal and do not influence the performance or the durability of the bevel gear. We note, however, that the owner of thevehicle is responsible for notifying the relevant authorities of the modifications carried out, where necessary.

Le prfixe change d'application application ; il dfinit les caractristiques variables comme leblocage de diffrentiel, la bride de transmission, etc.
La rfrence de base est la mme pour tous les diffrentiels monts sur une mme gammed'essieux. Toutes les rfrences de base des diffrentiels Meritor commencent par le nombre "3200".
Le rapport est indiqu sous la forme d'un nombre 3 chiffres aprs la rfrence du diffrentiel.Exemple : A38 3200W1739-308Ceci signifie que le rapport est de 3.08:1.

Die Basisnummer ist bei allen Differenzialen, die innerhalb einer bestimmten Achsengruppeeingebaut werden, identisch. Alle Meritor Differenziale beginnen mit den Zahlen "3200"

1. Die geringere Anzahl an Zhnen auf dem Getrieberad und dem Kranz eines Coarse-Pitch ermglicht: Eine grere Lebensdauer Eine bessere Verschlei- und Zugfestigkeit.

Das Fine-Pitch hat 13 unterschiedliche bersetzungen, wo das Coarse-Pitch den gesamten Bereich mit 9 bersetzungen abdeckt3.Das Fine-Pitch ist in nur einem Standardschnitt erhltlich, der sowohl fr LKWs und Busse dient, wogegen das Coarse-Pitch einen spezifischenGewindeschnitt fr jeden Fahrzeugtyp aufweist4. FIN DEL STOCK DE ENGRANAJES CNICOS CON CORTE DE FINE-PITCH PARA DIFERENCIALES DE LA SERIE 177ELas razones que nos han llevado a la decisin de acabar con la produccin de los engranajes cnicos mediante corte de Fine-Pitch y utilizar exclusivamenteel corte de Coarse-Pitch son las siguientes:
1. El corte de Coarse-Pitch tiene menos dientes en el pin y la corona, lo que permite: Una mayor duracin Una mayor resistencia al desgaste y al esfuerzo
2. El corte de Fine-Pitch consta de 13 relaciones diferentes para cubrir toda la distancia, mientras que el Coarse-Pitch slo tiene 93. El Fine-Pitch slo dispone de un corte estndar que sirve tanto para los camiones como para los autobuses, mientras que el Coarse-Pitch ofrece cortesespecficos para cada uno de estos vehculos4. Om een efficientere en optimale voorraad bestand te garanderen heeft ArvinMeritor het aantalverschillende ratios verkleind van de differentielen uit de familie 177.
Let erop dat het aantal ratios die gebruikt worden voor de differentielenfamilie 177 als volgt wordtaangepast :
Het gat tussen de ratios zal niet groter zijn dan 5% en deze verandering zal geen gevolgen hebben voor deduurzaamheid en de werking van de assen.
De oude ratios kunnen nog besteld worden zolang er voorraad is.

Wij hebben om de onderstaande redenen besloten de productie van de conische tandwielen met een profiel met Fine-Pitch stop te zetten enuitsluitend het profiel met Coarse-Pitch te gebruiken:
1. Het profiel met Coarse-Pitch heeft minder tanden op het rondsel en de kroon wat garant staat voor: Een verhoogde duurzaamheid Een betere slijtvastheid en weerstand
2. Het profiel met Fine-Pitch heeft 13 verschillende overbrengingen terwijl de Coarse-Pitch er slechts 9 heeft om de afstand te dekken.3. De Fine-Pitch heeft slechts n enkel standaardprofiel dat zowel voor bussen als vrachtautos wordt gebruikt terwijl de Coarse-Pitchspecifieke profielen voor elk van deze voertuigen biedt.4. De bewerking van het eindproduct waarbij het verbeteren van de duurzaamheid en de kenmerken van de conische tandwielen centraalstaat.

Van nu af aan en zolang de voorraad strekt, zullen de hierboven vermelde conische tandwielen geleidelijk aan niet meer verkrijgbaar zijn.In de onderstaande tabel treft u onze adviezen voor het vervangen van de conische tandwielen aan.
De overbrengingsverschillen zijn miniem en hebben geen invloed op de prestaties of de duurzaamheid van het conische tandwiel. Wijbenadrukken echter dat, indien nodig, de eigenaar van het voertuig verantwoordelijk is voor de communicatie over de uitgevoerdewijzigingen met de bevoegde autoriteiten.
