Principal Report Welcome to 2019 at Murrumburrah High School.

I am very happy to inform our school community that as of Day 1 2019 of the school year I have been

appointed as the substantive Principal of Murrumburrah High School. I am very proud and excited to take

up this new role and am very much looking forward to working with the school and its community in build-

ing and extending educational opportunities for all our students. I was born and raised nearby in Temora

and attended Temora High School as a student before starting my teacher training all those years ago. I

have spent many years in larger high schools but always had the desire to get back to a smaller rural school

and continue improving outcomes for rural students. I have a strong passion for public education and firmly

believe in its ability to provide a well-rounded education for all students.

Murrumburrah High School has a small but strong staff platform that is very experienced and can provide

the education for your child that should make you very happy each and every day. The school is currently

looking into ways of extending this strong base to include more positive experiences to provide growth opportunities for every

student from year 7 to 12. The school is also embracing innovative ways to support future focused learning and our hard-working,

dedicated staff continue to be both adaptive and responsive to the needs of all our learners.

I look forward to meeting all the parents and families of our students and am very happy for you to make appointments to come and

meet with me at any time. Thank you to the many parents that have already taken the time out of their day to do so already. Please

call the school to arrange a suitable time. It is only through strong communication that we can make things better.

I look forward to our future.

Mr Dale Rands

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

On behalf of the Murrumburrah High School Parent’s & Citizen’s Association, we warmly welcome you and your student/s to

the 2019 school year at Murrumburrah High School.

As our children venture off to high school, we often as parents, begin to feel a bit redundant in the day to day going’s on of

school life, with the students growing and learning to take responsibility for these things themselves.

With this being said, I would like to extend an invitation to you, to come along and become part of the school P & C so that

you can continue to play a very important role in your student/s education and wellbeing.

The P & C’s purpose within the school is to work with the Principal, Executive Staff, Teachers and students to ensure that Mur-

rumburrah High School continues to provide a positive learning environment with great community spirit: an environment in

which our children will thrive.

We also oversee the canteen at MHS. We have a fantastic Canteen Manager, Kirsty Summerfield, who has been working tire-

lessly since her appointment in 2018 to bring the canteen menu into line with the Healthy Canteen guidelines developed by the

NSW Department of Education & the Ministry of Health.

Becoming a member of the P & C has many wonderful benefits such as developing strong friendships with other parents, the

ability to get to know your student/s and their friends in their school environment, enjoying a close working relationship with Teachers and Staff and you will be informed of the issues and news within the school as it unfolds.

To stay up to date with what the P & C is working on, and to see what else is happening in our school community, please visit

and like our P & C Facebook Page- Murrumburrah High School P & C Association. We also have an email address that can be

used to contact us if you have any questions or concerns and cannot make it to a meeting- murrumburrahhigh-

[email protected].

Our first meeting for the year will be held on Monday 11th February @ 6pm in the Staff Common Room and we would love to

see you there. This would be a great opportunity to meet our new Principal Mr Dale Rands.

2019 starts off with a bang with preparations for Royal Shows well underway.

Farm Club is a great way to get to know new friends and students in older years that can make life easier at MHS.

We try to make Farm Club as affordable as possible. In doing so we have a lot of clothing pool items to help kids out

in dressing the correct way for the showring.

What do you need to start? Work boots, Sports shirt, Plain Jeans, Belt, Hat, Parading shirt.

Permission notes are important. They cover both the student and the teacher at shows for insurance related matters.

Please return permission notes promptly. Money can be paid in instalments or if you are experiencing financial difficul-

ty we can assist.

Any questions you may have please contact Mrs Jan Young on 6386 2755 at school or on her mobile 0412 774 094.

Calendar Dates

New Parading Yards During the school holidays students in Farm Club worked in the heat to assist Mr Simon Pavitt

in dismantling the old parading yard and helping to construct the new parading yards. Students who

assisted were Chad Webster, Elden Rowan, Tom Manwaring, Tara Parker and new year 7 stu-

dent Blake Parker. The 3 older boys came back for more work over the following 2 days and learnt

to site posts, mix cement, use a variety of tools in order to prepare the work site for the next phase.

A big thankyou goes out to these resilient students who donated their time and energy throughout

the holidays.

We are preparing 8 steers for Sydney.

Hospitality Excursion—Term 4, 2018

At the end of last year, Hannah, Will, Brad and myself enjoyed a Hospitality excursion to

Canberra. The day was planned to see different cafes and restaurants and enjoy eating new

foods. The first café which was chosen was The Cupping Room. This is a trendy café where

the waiters did not have a set uniform, they wore casual clothing. Paitezz was our next café, and after a hot walk over, the students chose a refreshing

‘freakshake’.

Finally, we decided to get dinner, we ate appetisers from three different locations, The East,

Aulac and the Village Indian restaurant.

We all had a great day, despite the hot conditions.

Best Start Year 7 Assessment Our school will participate in Best Start Year 7, an online literacy and numeracy assessment available to secondary

schools on Tuesday 12 February.

Best Start Year 7, assesses key literacy and numeracy skills of Year 7 students. It is designed to assist teachers to

identify students who may require additional support in developing their literacy and numeracy skills.

Best Start Year 7 is just one of a range of assessments the school uses to assess students.

Please inform the school if your child has special needs requiring support to complete an online assessment.

Optional advice:

Students will be asked to bring headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer to enable them to hear audio dur-

ing the assessment. Earbuds used for phones or other portable devices may be suitable for use during the assess-

ment. The type of computer connection needed is a jack or USB. Please let us know if your child needs earbuds pro-

vided by the school.
