Child Labor Laws• Student learner exemption

• “State child labor laws prohibit work during times that minors are required to be in school, except for students participating in work experience and career exploration programs operated by the school.”

• Important for employers/mentors to know/train their students on proper safety/use of equipment

• Occupations declared hazardous under DWD 270.12 & 270.13• Incidental to the student learner’s training, and shall be intermittent and

only for short periods of time (i.e., for 5% or less of the total work hours)

• Direct and close supervision of a qualified and experienced person

• Provide your employers/mentors with child labor laws

Child Labor Laws• Minors under 18 years of age may not work more than 6

consecutive hours without having a 30-minute, duty free meal period

• Minors 16& 17 years of age who are employed after 11:00pm must have 8 hours of rest between the end of one shift and the start of the next shift.

• Only minors under the age of 16 are required to have a work permit.

• Minimum wage for minors is $7.25
