Mentor Program Mission Statement The mission of New Dimensions High Schools Mentor Program is to create and support one-to- one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth facing challenges in their personal, social, or academic lives. The mission of New Dimensions High School’s Mentor Program is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth facing challenges in their personal, social, or academic lives.

Process for Requesting Mentor

• Program Open for 9th 12th grade

students

• Complete Mentor Application &

Parent Consent Form

• Committee will review student

application

• Committee will match Mentee to

Mentor

• Attend Orientation Meeting

MEETING REQUIREMENTS:

Must meet 4 times a month

#1 meeting – In Person

May ONLY meet during school hours (except with prior written permission from parent)

#2, #3 & #4 meetings

In Person (during school hours)

Must commit fully to the Program for each year participating

Students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52 percent less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37 percent less likely to skip a class. (Public/Private Ventures study of Big Brothers Big Sisters).

Young adults who face an opportunity gap but have a mentor are 55 percent more likely to be enrolled in college than those who did not have a mentor. (The Mentoring Effect, 2014).

In addition to better school attendance and a better chance of going on to higher education, mentored youth maintain better attitudes toward school. (The Role of Risk, 2013).

Mentoring Can Have Positive Effects! Process for Becoming a Mentor

• Complete NDHS Volunteer

Application

• Schedule Volunteer Interview

• Complete O.A.S.I.S. application for

background check (Liberty or

Poinciana HS)

• Agree to volunteer for a minimum

of one school year (August-May)

with hopes of a continued

relationship

• Agree to Ground Rules for Mentors
