There are two types"Bombers" as we know them today:

• G-1 - Features sheepskin lining enabling high altitude WWII pilots to stay warm and comfortable. This is the jacket most associate with "bombers", and was used by Tom Cruise in "Top Gun".

• A-2 - Is lined with cotton or silk, has expandable wrist and waist bands and collar. James Dean used one of these when playing Jim Stark, and are credited for making leather jackets so popular in the 50s and 60s.

Due to its widespread use in Hollywood movies, the A-2 soon got a staple as a jacket worn by cool "greasers" with a tough and careless attitude.

The jacket was modified and made available in the colour black. It became tremendously popular and it didn’t take long before the biker-, greaser-, punker-, and heavy metal culture adopted it, and developed their own styles.
