library during Youth Art Month in March. Photo by Thomas J. McKillen.

A timeline presented during the Menomonee FallsSchool Board meeting Feb. 23 provided a glimpse ofthe current facilities planning within the district.

In a discussion that was under the agenda item"community engagement/facilities planning,” the time-line summarizes steps for districts workshops for facilityplanning and a community survey over the next year.

Jill Huskisson, public outreach specialis t with theEppstein Uhen architectural firm, said the timeline "isvery strategic in how you intend to engage that commu-nity in several different ways as you move toward apotential referendum in 2016."

Huskisson said that under the proposed timeline, there would be a referendum in February or April of2016. Huskisson said that an resolution for a referen-dum has to occur 73 days before a referendum election. She said that all of the work that occur prior to theboard committing to a referendum begins in the spring.

"In our conversation with the CommunicationPlanning Committee, they felt a community workshopwould be a great opportunity to involve the communityin conversation. When we think about that workshopand the opportunity to really build some ownership inthat process and develop a broad understanding ofsome of the challenges facing the school district, thatworkshop does provide a really good opportunity tohave conversation," Huskisson said.

Huskisson said the workshop would be an opportu-nity to collect feedback from the community to deter-mine where their priorities are set.

Huskisson said from the workshops, a survey could

    Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter

The partials I have had since December have beenadjusted and fit good but make my mouth just feel souncomfortable some days. The tops make my mouth feel

really full and bulky even though they don’t hurt. I havebeen a lot happier since I got partials as now I am able tosmile and my lips look fuller so my face doesn’t seem todroop. I am in advertising so having nice teeth and talkingproperly is extremely important to me. I want otheralternatives to just regular partials. I'm missing almost allback teeth except for two, so I have upper and lower partialscurrently with the clear clips. Lastly, can you tell me if insurance will pay for this?

Dear Lisa, I am glad you received partials and areadapting to them! I refer to partial dentures and dentures astemporaries in my practice. That is because I want everypatient to have stable teeth, which ideally stay in yourmouth and don’t have to be removed at night. While noteveryone is a candidate for fixed implant dentistry itcertainly is a great goal.

When people wear partials-even comfortable partials-many things happen. First you lose bone where your backteeth were pulled. The lack of roots in the bone cause thebone to deteriorate and the movement of the partials adds tobone loss. Next, you get expansion of the maxillary sinuses. This is because the roots of the back teeth hold the sinuses

up and when the teeth are removed the sinuses expand in aprocess called pneumatization. Lastly, the clasps of partialsmove when you chew on the false teeth. This movement isaccentuated on the clasped teeth which often become loseand need to be removed at a later date.

So the solution is to have dental implants and fixedbridges. If you have bone loss or the sinuses have expandedyou may require sinus lifts and or bone grafting prior toplacement of implants. Placing implants will stimulate andpreserve bone. Loss of teeth and rubbing on your skin bypartials cause bone loss. So our goal in dentistry is topreserve bone at all costs! So placing implants before toomuch bone loss has occurred will greatly preserve youroptions as you age. I lecture to other dentists aboutUpgradeable Dentistry, which allows people to go fromdentures to implant supported dentures or even implantsupported bridges as their budget allows. So even thoughinsurance doesn’t cover this level of complex dentistry we

offer interest free financing to help you achieve dentistrythat will preserve your bone and your options throughoutyour life according to your budget.

    Y o u c a n v i s i t o u r w e b s i t e a twww.hamptondentalassociates.com for videos, photos,testimonials and to learn about options that will allow youto get rid of your partial dentures.

Wearing partials is a great first step toward repairingyour mouth. Moving on to the next step before there isirreversible bone loss is the next step in your dental

journey and we would be honored to help y ou reach thatnext level of care to improve your smile, your chewingand your self-esteem.

We offer complimentary consultations and recommendcomprehensive examination and x-ray visits to help youdetermine the treatment that’s right for you. We invite allof our readers to call us at 414-464-9021 to schedule yourvisit today!Yours for better dentistry,Dr. Richard Winter MAGD, DICOI, DABOI/ID

B Y STATE SUPERINTENDENTTONY EVERSMy goal for judging education policy

and reform efforts is always: “Is it good forkids.” In looking at the governor’s pro-posed 2015-17 budget for education, onbalance it will not help our children’s edu-cation. It will in fact leave a legacy of lessfor Wisconsin students.

So what does an educator, parent, orgrandparent do? Now is the time to talkamong families and friends, within schoolsand communities. Study the impact of thegovernor’s proposed education budget. What does it mean to have per pupil rev-enue limits frozen for the biennium, to haveno additional supports for students withsignificant needs to help them overcome adisability or language barrier, to have less

money to spend for our local schools? Theheating and electric bills will not go down;the cost of running buses to transport kidsis at the mercy of fuel prices. We absolute-ly must have teachers and textbooks. Soschool administrators and school boardswill again be asked to do more with less. Will they eliminate the few remaining fieldtrips; scale back the science labs, musicprograms, or hands-on learning opportuni-ties that help kids thrive; or will it be anoth-er whack at educator pay and benefits. The cuts are coming, and it’s important toknow how your community’s publicschools will cope.

As we learn more of what this budget

proposal means, it’s also important to tellyour elected officials. Whether through aletter or e-mail, a phone call or testimonyat upcoming budget hearings, legislatorsneed to know what their electorate thinks.Evidence of how this budget proposal willnegatively impact students in each legisla-tor’s district matters. Legislators canreshape the 2015-17 budget. They cantransform it from a “legacy of less” to aspending plan that supports our kids andtheir future.
