Welcome back to term 3! We’re starting off with our celebration of NAIDOC

week culminating with a Commemorative service at the Cenotaph and activities

on the Old Reserve. All are welcome to join us for those activities and if you’d

like to contribute please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

With the colder, darker months upon us it is difficult to drag yourself out of

bed in the morning especially if you happen to have an age that ends in ‘een. As

difficult as it is, arriving at school on time ensures students receive important

information that may be handed out at roll call and are on hand to make the

most of the first lesson.

Term three is an exciting term for a number of groups of students. For year 12

it marks the last term of their formal schooling with the HSC only just around

the corner, while year 11 are making decisions about their pattern of study for

when they start their HSC in term 4. Years 8 and 10 will also be making subject

selections later this term, a fantastic opportunity to try a subject area out in

preparation for exploring real world opportunities and pathways after school.

We pride ourselves on being able to offer a range of subjects that allow us to

tailor a student’s education in a way that larger schools can only dream about.

Year 10 students will also start putting the groundwork in on Traineeship possi-

bilities and may have even contacted prospective employers. If you feel you are

in a position to offer a traineeship and don’t know what’s involved, please don’t

hesitate to get in touch with either myself or Adam Bailey to find out how we

can assist. More information on subject selections and traineeships will come

out later this term.

The next round of athletics carnivals will also take place soon and those stu-

dents who did well at our carnival will be invited to participate at the next level,

watch out for details of team training, especially relays.

Another competition of sorts is the Premiers Reading Challenge which also fin-

ishes this term. Students are required to read 30 or 20 books, depending on

their year, in order to qualify for the award. Teachers will be reminding stu-

dents about how close they are to completing the challenge. Every student who

completes the challenge will be awarded a prize and for one lucky student a gift

voucher to Browzer’s bookstore will be drawn as well. Reading is key to so

many educational outcomes and is something that is so easily improved with

practice.

Term 3 also marks the last chance for students to be given a ‘fresh slate’ for the

School Spectacular and Big Day Out excursions that occur in term 4. If stu-

dents have collected 100 tickets or Vivos each term and continue to maintain

good behaviour, they will qualify for invitation to these fabulous trips away. To

help families monitor students good behaviour, we will shortly release an app

that allows you to see just how good they’ve been going! Daryl Irvine

As you know, MCS has a Lunchtime Permission sign out policy for secondary Stu-dents. A new permission note must be provided by parents each term.

This term the forms are green. These forms were sent home with students during week 8 of last term. If your child has misplaced theirs, please have them grab another one from the front office.

Please sign and return the Term 3 permission note to the Front Office. If these forms are not returned then unfortunately we will not be able to let your child (our Student) sign out. Please note that whilst your child is at school it is our duty of care to ensure they remain safe. Welcome back to the new term I hope everybody had an enjoyable break. It was nice to see everybody keen to be back at preschool and refreshed after their holidays. On Wednesday we celebrated NAIDOC week with a morning tea with families and children. We cooked Johnnie cakes and everybody contributed to a group artwork which will be displayed at the centre, thank you to the families who come along. While NAIDOC week is a national week of observance, the children’s and community’s Indigenous culture is recognised and celebrated throughout the year at preschool. A child’s culture underpins and contributes to a their positive self-identity and strengthens their connec-tions with and contributions to their world. The importance of culture is recognised and contributes to sev-eral early years learning outcomes in ‘Belonging, Being and Becoming’ The Early Years Learning Frame-work. Preschool is vital step in education for all young children, it provides many opportunities for young children to learn and develop across all areas; importantly socially and emotionally as well as many emergent literacy and numeracy skills, it also helps children establish positive routines that children need when they start school.

We still have some vacancies available for children to attend preschool, if you are interested please contact the centre on 0880914246 or pop in and talk to us about this. Please remember that parents MUST provide an up to date ‘Immunisation History Statement’ before your child can start preschool (or big school). Little Kids and Books kicks off for the term THIS Thursday at 10.30am at the preschool. This week’s book is ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, this classic chant and rhyme is about a family going on a fun bear hunt, bring your little kids along on Thursday to join our Bear Hunt! The dates for Little Kids and Books for term 3 are Thursday 17th July Thursday 31st July Thursday 14th August Thursday 28th August Thursday 11th September. Congratulations to the winner of our State of Origin raffle; Fiona & Clint, ORANGE F86 drawn by Wayne Courtney at the Albemarle Hotel during the last Origin game. Thank you to everybody who purchased tick-ets and to the Albemarle Hotel, Maidens Hotel and Red Sands for selling tickets, your continued support is very much appreciated. Also a special Thank you to Dimity Kelly who helped organise the donation of the Jumper and to Smiley Johnson and David Trodden, CEO NSW Rugby League for their kind donation. Our next management committee meeting will be held on Tuesday 22nd July at 5.00pm at the preschool and everybody is welcome and encouraged to come along and talk to our landscaper to finalise our plans for the new landscaping.
