From a young boy, he was always supporting people of disabilities and helped bring awareness to challenges facing these groups. His life represented grit, perseverance, resilience, and a strong will. Although his life was cut short so suddenly, we are grateful for the time we had with him.Our brother’s faith in Jesus and his commitment to First Assembly of God Church kept him strong and full of hope. He had an immense passion for music and loved to listen to old vinyl’s of BB King, Jeff Healey, and Stevie Wonder. Sean truly had a zest for anything instrumental and musical. He was a unique and dynamic individual that faced life head on.With heavy hearts, we will miss you dearly, Sean.To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: [email protected] subject heading: Sean Macoon, or you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.Funeral Arrangements are by the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM 540 South Railway St. SE, Medicine Hat T1A 4C2

NORINE LUCILLE MOORE

June 23, 1956 ~ February 25, 2021On Thursday, February 25, 2021, Norine Lucille Moore passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat at the age of 64 years while surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 23, 1956, Norine led a beautiful life and was adored by all those who were lucky enough to meet her. She was strong, sassy, and much to the detriment of others, stubborn as hell. There was never a dull moment lived with her by your side. Whether it was playing yahtzee, baking dessert or being corralled into another photoshoot, there was always a sassy remark to be said and a radiant smile to join it. Norine is survived by her husband, Douglas, their three children and their families: daughter, Shandi (Clayton) Hurlbert and their children, Kody, Rylie, and Shyla; son, Christopher Moore (Samantha Poch); daughter, Danielle Moore (Ian Gutjahr) and their children, Kaiden and Connor; siblings, Joyce Morrison and Barry (Shaireen) Osborne as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Norine was predeceased by her parents, Clayton and Hanna Osborne as well as her parents-in-law, Arthur and Dorothy Moore. With Norine’s passing, there is a spark stolen from the world; a spark that will be dearly missed. Norine truly lived each moment to the fullest and made countless memories with family and friends that they will cherish forever. With her sheer stubbornness and unique soul, Norine and her stories will live on for generations.

“Another year passes, another year gone,The memories we made, and new memories go on.

As money can buy all the things that we crave,It’s memories and family that we treasure and save.

A family is something you can never replace,A memory is something you can never erase.

So many memories to treasure and love,I thank all the angels watching above.”

A private graveside service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to APARC Animal Shelter, 1002 South Railway Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 2W2 or to http://www.aparc.ca (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com). Ronald Herman King was born the youngest of twelve children on April 17, 1935, to proud parents, Walter and Pauline King in Sceptre, Saskatchewan. Growing up, Ron worked on the family farm and dairy while also working for Clarence Grant at the Sceptre Garage. He loved sports of all kinds and excelled at baseball, curling and hockey. Ron married Louise Charnetski in Calgary, Alberta on October 8, 1963, proudly accepting her two children, Russell and Michelle Christopher as his own. On January 13, 1965, they completed their family with the birth of their son, Reginald Myron King. Ron looked after the family farm with his brother, Walter and eventually with his son, Reg. Ron and Reg developed a special bond through working the land, playing catch, their Sunday fishing trips to the river and evenings spent sitting and visiting out on the deck. Ron and Louise retired to Medicine Hat in 2011 where they enjoyed life together until her passing on November 23, 2019. Shortly after, Ron moved into the Teeoda Lodge where he continued to reside until his passing. He will forever be remembered for his very caring and understanding nature. Ron’s great sense of humour and the sound of him singing his funny little songs will forever resonate with his children, step-children and their families whom he loved dearly. Ron’s life will be honoured and his memory cherished without the proceedings of a formal funeral. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting our website at www.cooksouthland.com). ALAN RODGERS OGILVIE

1946 ~ 2021Mr. Alan Ogilvie, beloved husband of Carol Ogilvie, passed away in Medicine Hat on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at the age of 74 years. Alan was born on November 9, 1946, in Edinburgh, Scotland. His parents and his two sisters moved to Canada when Alan was just shy of his 11th birthday. He hated Canada and on their second day in Medicine Hat he hid under the seat of a Greyhound bus to make his way back and got as far as Winnipeg! His love for Edinburgh stayed with him his whole life through music, movies and books. On October 24, 1970, Alan married Carol Frances Lanz at St. Patrick’s Church in Medicine Hat. He worked for Dominion Glass for 25 years, until the day it closed. Following that, Alan began his work on the pipeline where he worked at M & N Construction for nearly 30 years. It was there that he made many lifelong friends, even though Alan retired he still kept up with what was happening in the pipeline world. One of his proudest moments there was when he was able to mentor his grandson, Mitchell. Although he often appeared grumpy, Alan had a charm that garnered him many friends. Once people got to know him, they realized his grumpiness hid a soft, kind heart and that Alan was really a shy guy. One of his favorite pastimes was golf. Alan taught his eldest daughter to play and then carried that on with three of his grandsons. All Alan’s grandsons ever wanted to do was beat him at a game of golf, which never happened. He was passionate about reading and spent many hours at the library. Alan could easily read a book in less than a day. He loved spending time working out at the Leisure Centre, although if truth be told, there was far more socializing than working out going on there. Alan also watched sports on TV, especially golf. He never missed a match, especially The British Open. Hockey was another sport Alan watched, although he would adamantly deny that he liked the game, yet he knew every stat and every player. Alan loved to watch his grandsons play sports, from lacrosse to hockey to football, he was there for it all. Alan thrived on knowing what everyone was doing and when we called him nosey, he would say, “I’m not nosey, I’m curious”. He regularly visited with his children and grandchildren, although his visits were only about 10 minutes... short and sweet. Alan’s favorite gestures and sayings were giving the middle finger, “Kiss My Ass”, “Dummy Up” and “Up Your Kilt”. If he did or said these to you, you know he liked you. Alan could often be heard saying, “You Canadians and your myths”, especially when talking about events like Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day or anniversaries, all because of his lifelong love for Edinburgh. Alan’s memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of his wife, Carol Ogilvie; children, Annette (Roy) Graf, Patricia (Mike) Rolls, Renee (Kevin) Hirsch; grandchildren, Mitchell (Kassidy) Ogilvie, Daniel (Abi) Graf, Easton Hirsch, Jeremy Rolls and Logan Rolls; sisters, Rosemary Ogilvie and Dolores Powers as well as brother-in-law, Alvin (Gail) Lanz and sister-in-law, Betty (Ken) Melbourn. Alan was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Jean Ogilvie; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Eva and Jack Lanz; eldest grandson, Alexander Graf. We will forever miss our husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend. Our wonderful memories will provide us comfort in the days to come. A private Celebration of Alan’s Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel in Medicine Hat on Friday, March 5, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating. Those wishing to experience the Funeral Service via live streaming are encouraged to visit www.cook southland.com and click the View Broadcast button on the homepage at service time. EDITH BECKER1963 ~ 2021

Edith Becker of Medicine Hat passed away on February 28, 2021 at the age of 57 years. Edith was born in Gull Lake on July 10, 1963, she would have turned 58 this year. She was born special in so many ways, but she had many hurdles to overcome to live a full life. Edith lived in Swift Current for a short time and then came to Medicine Hat. Through the wonderful support programs that Medicine Hat has to offer she was able to live and work independently. She spent time at the Kinsmen Training Center, worked at the Veiner Center, a Daycare in Crescent Heights and the bottle depot. She also attended George P. Vanier School. Edith enjoyed the many friendships that she made here through Redi Enterprises and CORE. She has had some exceptional workers in her life, most notably Crystal Deobald and Natasha Hagel. She lived in her own apartment, had weekend sleepovers with her special friends Christine, Carol, and Monica where they would watch movies and order take-out. She learned 10 pin bowling thanks to the careful and watchful coaching of Pat Enns and was able to participate in Special Olympics. She had numerous trophies and medals that she was extremely proud of. She really enjoyed her bus trips with her companions, but none more than Tim Pedley (her sweetie). Edith always had a special wit about her and loved family gatherings. We had many evenings of card games and Sunday suppers. She loved birthdays and Christmas. She loved getting presents, and she loved going on trips. She would call people "turkey" and would get a great kick out of teasing and badgering but always in a loving way. She had a wonderful laugh and a beautiful smile. She sometimes used to crush hard on her sisters spouses and would disown us if we tried to limit the phone calls. She loved "blue ice cream" and Dairy Queen Oreo blizzards. Her routine was to visit Dairy Queen daily for a fill up. She had her own booth and would bring her bag of crosswords and knitting. If someone would be sitting at her booth, she would patiently wait until they went to the washroom, and she would take her spot back. Everyone knew her there and they treated her special. She also really enjoyed her "Tim Bits" and Pepsi!. She was a bit of a trickster, and loved interacting with other people. She used to go up to the Co-op on 13th avenue to visit her sweetie, Tim. He was always happy to see her. She enjoyed music and dancing and the many social activities provided through CORE and REDI. As Edith got older, she unfortunately suffered from Dementia and later seizures. She came full circle and became a resident at 13th Street (Vanier House) which was where she had once gone to school. She was reunited with many of her friends that she made and workers that knew her from the start. The care and compassion, love and support that she received there felt like a fitting place for her to spend her remaining time. I will forever be grateful for the compassionate care that she received there. Shelley, Donia, Judy, Sofia, Gloria, Mercy, Alex, Amparo, Apiny, Darrel, Jayson, Mia, Veronica, Lavanya, Cathy, and the many others made every day count. Pre-Covid there were many outings which she enjoyed immensely. It was her home. Edith was predeceased by her nephew, Graeme Porter; father, Alex Becker and her mother, Mary Becker. She leaves to cherish her two sisters, Myrna (Keith) Porter and Norma (Ray) Fewer; nephews, Sean, Devin (Alexandria); niece, Kendra Porter; nephew, Brad and niece, Kimberly Lindsay. She will forever remain in our hearts as she was a special gift that made us all better people. Special thanks to Dr. Van Mulligan, Dr. Ciubota, Dr. Thorogood, Devonna Sannachan, Eileen Cote, paramedics, CORE and REDI. There will be a private family service at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Friends are invited to view the service via live streaming at www.saamis.com through the webcast link on Edith’s memorial page starting at 1:55 pm. She will also be forever remembered by her adopted families in Medicine Hat and Saskatchewan (Randy’s family and the Nittels). She was born November 23rd, 1934 in Slootdorp, Netherlands, one of 12 children. She spent her childhood in Alkmaar, Netherlands until at the tender age of 17 she immigrated with her entire family to Canada. After spending one year with their host family in Quebec, the family headed west to Taber, AB to labour in the local vegetable fields. After some time spent there, the family headed North to Edson and then at 21, Alice moved to the city of Edmonton where she began work at the “Dutch Mill” restaurant. It was when she was attending a Dutch Canadian Dance in Edmonton that she met the love of her life and future husband-to-be, Theodore “Ted” Versteegden. They married in 1956. Soon after, the couple welcomed their children, Lorraine and then, James. Together they raised their young family in the Jasper Place area of Edmonton. Later, Ted and Alice moved just west of Edmonton where they remained until 1979. It was that year that they moved to the acreage near Stony Plain and built their new home. They grew vegetables to sell and kept many beehives to produce AAA graded honey for the honey co-op. It was also at this time that they started their greenhouse operation. She loved selling her plants at the market. Alice lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker, gardener and worker. After Ted’s passing, she moved to Medicine Hat where she was able to devote 17 years to developing and nurturing the flower gardens at her new home. Her hands were rarely still and the simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy. She was a very creative person and she loved to work on her oil paintings. In Loving Memory

JOSEPHINE DIETRICHAugust 19, 1918 ~ March 11, 2021

Mrs. Josephine Bertha Dietrich (nee Zunti), beloved wife of the late Michael Kasper Dietrich, passed away at AgeCare Valleyview in Medicine Hat on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at the age of 102 years. Josephine was born and raised on the family homestead North of Luseland, SK., on Monday, August 19, 1918, to Caspar and Anna Zunti. As an adolescent, Josephine enjoyed school and running long distance foot races. She often spoke of how her favorite teacher, Mr. Bates explained and demonstrated how she could run faster. After working as a domestic helper for families in the Luseland area, Josephine started working as Father J. Rheidt’s (0.M.I.) housekeeper. When Father Rheidt was reassigned to St. Anthony’s Parish in Mendham, Josephine moved with Father. While working as Father’s housekeeper in Mendham, Josephine met the love of her life, widower, Michael Dietrich. Josephine and Mike were married November 11, 1953, and spent the next 62 years together. Josephine was an active member and volunteer for her local Roman Catholic Parishes; St. Anthony’s (Mendham, SK), Little Flower (Leader, SK), Christ the King and St. Patrick’s (both of Medicine Hat). She was a founding member of the Little Flower Catholic Women’s League (CWL) and spent many hours volunteering with the CWL including their many teas and bake sales. Josephine’s signature coffee chiffon cake with 7-minute brown sugar frosting was not only a hit with her family but usually before Josephine could take “the cake” to the bake sale it was sold before it got there. Josephine loved gardening and always had a flower and vegetable garden behind the house in town and another vegetable garden twice or three times as large at the farm 10 miles away. She was always so proud of her roses in town and her raspberry bushes at the farm. According to local “garden raiders”, her’s were the “best peas” in town. With her “green thumb”, produce in excess of her family’s requirements was generously given to whomever was in need. From the produce of her gardens, Josephine always made sure there were wonderful healthy meals for her family and whomever came by unexpectedly. There always seemed to be an abundance of food at meal times. Josephine enjoyed her grandchildren and watching them grow up even if they didn’t really care for oatmeal in the morning. Josephine loved playing cards, particularly cribbage and Rookie and visiting with relatives and friends. Josephine and Mike spent many, many afternoons playing cribbage while being residence of the seniors home. Even after Mike had passed, Josephine continued to enjoy a lively game of cribbage with whomever would take the challenge and just before Christmas 2020, she still beat her son in a game. Josephine was always proud of her Swiss heritage keeping in touch with her immediate family and her Swiss relatives. She always loved dogs having had several “Heinz 57’s” that she could and did train to do all sorts of tricks. Josephine especially enjoyed it when Charles and Laverne came to visit with their miniature Schnauzers. We are not quite sure who enjoyed the visit more, Josephine or the dogs. Prior to retiring in Medicine Hat, Josephine and Mike enjoyed travelling taking trips to Australia, Alaska, Panama Canal, the Far East and Europe. During their lifetimes, Josephine and Mike generously donated to many charitable causes in their communities and beyond. She is lovingly survived by: step-son, Charles (Laverne, nee Luterbach), their children, Kent (Annie) their sons, Alexander and Benjamin; Michael (Robyn) their sons, Keelan, Graham and Wesley; son, Thomas (Jane, nee Boehmer) their children, Angela and her son, Sam; Mia (nee Candice) and her friend, Rabi; Kristen, her daughters, Olivia and Chloe; Nicholas, his daughter, Azia; Andrew (Evelyn) their son, Alec; she is also survived by her brother, Walter (Elsie, nee Greter) Zunti; sister, Dorothy and Marcel Lukan; sister-in-law, Agnes Zunti (nee Lukan) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Mike; parents, Caspar and Anna Zunti (nee Widmer); her sisters, Sr. Salesia (nee Alice Zunti) and Hilda Zunti; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Joe Zimmer, Clara and Marcel Croteau; brother and sisters-in-law; Casper and Mary Zunti (nee Dietrich) and Aline (nee Rousseau/Lacoursiere); brother, Frank Zunti; her sister-in-law, Barbara Schell; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Katherine and Joe Hubert, Margaret and Basil Dietrich, Eleanor and Mike Hubert, Anna and Steve Dietrich; nephew, Frank Dietrich and niece, Mary Williams (nee Dietrich). Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Vigil Prayers and the Funeral Mass will be by invitation only. Vigil Prayers will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 19, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Medicine Hat on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery. ANNIE FRENCH1932 ~ 2021

Annie (Stetar) French of Consul, Saskatchewan passed away unexpectedly surrounded by family on March 17, 2021. Annie was born on Sept 26, 1932 in Consul, Sask, to Thomas and Anna Stetar and this is where her journey through life began.Annie grew up south of Consul where she spent much of her life farming. Annie married Joe French on March 28, 1955 in Havre, MT. They live in the Village of Consul, and later moved to the farm East of Consul where she lived until she passed. Annie was your typical hardworking Canadian farm wife helping every step of the way. Annie ran the restaurant in Consul off and on for decades as she loved to cook and interact with people. Everyone who stopped in at the restaurant will remember Annie’s cooking, big heart and wonderful smile. Annie and Joe raised three children, William (Billy) French, Joanne Behrman (French), and Thomas (Tom) French in the Village of Consul. Annie had a soft spot in her heart for family, friends and animals. Annie remained active on the farm until 2015 looking after her pigs. When the last of the pig was sold, Annie decided to take up cat ranching, as it was a less vigorous feeding routine than the pigs. For all that visited her, we got to see her big herd of cats that only she could pet. They kept her busy for hours playing with them and watching them play.Annie had a sweet side but only few saw the card shark inside of her! You always had to keep a couple loonies in your pocket when you went to visit because baked goods and rummy were always on the menu. Annie loved to curl and in her younger years she was one to be reckoned with. As Annie got older you could bet if it was curling season, the Scotties or the Brier were on her television. Annie loved to write, whether it was in her diary or letters to family and friends near and far, if you sent her a letter you would always get one back.Annie was predeceased by her husband, Joe French; son, Billy French; grandson, Trevor Behrman; brother, Louis Stetar; brothers-in-law, Paddy French and Johnny French. Annie leaves to remember her, daughter, Joanne (Jim) Behrman; son, Tom (Marjorie) French; grandchildren, Renee (Damion) Grieman, Trent (Haley) Behrman, Jodi (Michael-Jon) French, Ryan French, Corey (Richelle) French, Megan French, and Darcy French; great-grandchildren, Wren Behrman, Crue Behrman, and Hattie French; sisters-in-law, Saloma French, Irene French, June Stetar; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Annie’s name to the Consul Curling Club and the Consul Ambulance Service. HARRY DIRK1942 ~ 2021

Harry Joseph Dirk passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the age of 79 years, beloved husband of Patricia Dirk of Cypress County. He also leaves to cherish his memory two children, Marty Dirk (special friend Nadine) and Corinna (Robert) Wirges; five grandchildren, Brennon (Cymara) and their son Jaxon; Brittany, Bailey, Gavin and Owen; three brothers, George (Thelma) Dirk, Don (Janis) Dirk and Larry (Alice) Dirk; one sister Bernice (Bruce) Creighton and one sister-in-law Julie Dirk as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Theresa and Michael Dirk; his daughter-in-law Kim Dirk and brothers Samuel, Andrew (Joan) Leonard. Cremation has taken place. Harry Joseph Dirk (Dad, The Old Man or Ole Man, Grandpa or Papa and Great Grandpa) was born March 13th ,1942 in Empress Alberta to Mike and Theresa Dirk. He was second oldest of 8 children that were raised on the family farm. Harry went to school in Empress and worked on the farm until meeting a nurse at the Empress Hospital. Harry and Pat were married in the fall of 1963 and their children, Marty and Corinna came along in the years to follow. Harry was extremely proud of both of his children and spoke of their accomplishments often. In the early years the Dirk boys played a lot of hockey and Harry continued to play into the late 1970’s. He was a Defenseman and let’s just say he was often the first one in the thick of things when the opposing team needed to be set straight. Farming and ranching was a huge part of their lives and raising Registered Quarter Horses for over 47 years. Harry was always so proud to see their horses perform in the rodeo arena, working a cow, spinning and sliding in a reining pattern, standing beautifully at halter or pulling a calf to the branding irons in the spring. In the 80’s he worked under a Saddle smith- built a team roping saddle and numerous pieces of tack. He thoroughly enjoyed working with leather. Although Harry never had any formal training as a Mechanic, the mechanical aspect of practically anything came very naturally to him. So when Marty started his business in Dunmore, Marty’s Engine and Compressor Services, Harry was on board to help and because of his knowledge and personal relations skills he soon became indispensable. He was Marty’s right hand for over 20 years. Ole Man was still working there up until about a year ago. At this time the Parkinson’s had made it impossible for Harry to drive. He still came in to The Shop for visits just to make sure things were going smooth. For many years Harry liked to don the blaze orange for November hunting season and loved to share his experiences, especially about the great non-typical buck he harvested. Papa and Gavin were just exchanging hunting stories on his last birthday. Fishing has always been a staple in our family. Where ever and whatever we were fishing for, Dad would always catch the first fish and somehow it would always be a Jack fish. So, it came to be that on any fishing expeditions he was known as Jack fish Harry. Harry professed to play the accordion and pulled it out at least once or twice a year to serenade us with “You are my Sunshine”. Oh how he loved to visit and was always able to strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved their Yorkies, loved going for coffee, playing cards, driving, travelling, loved a great home cooked meal but also loved eating out. Some of Papa’s favorite treats were Kentucky Fried Chicken, a bologna sandwich, wieners or tube steaks as he affectionately called them, chocolate bars and room temperature Coca Cola. Harry loved his family and will be sorely missed by all. If family and friends wish to pay their respects, the urn will be present at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on March 26 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to remotely attend the funeral service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home youtube page where the video will go live 10 minutes prior to service time.
