happy new happy new happy new happy new year!year!year!year!
We ended 2014 with a bang as our little ones put on a wonderful show at Christmas! As the year closed out, there is so much to be thankful for, from a successful VBS to a full house at Christmas and everything in between! The launch of Upwards Children’s Church could not have happened without the support of our volunteers. Thank you many times over for investing your time and efforts on Sunday mornings. I wish you could feel how full my heart is with gratitude for your willingness to invest into the lives of our children and impact our future generation. It is a humbling experience to lead such wonderful individuals. Thank you! I am excited to see what God has in store for 2015! Stay tuned...

Pastor’s ParagraphPastor’s ParagraphPastor’s ParagraphPastor’s Paragraph
It was 1908, when the ball dropped in Times Square for the first time. That same year, Robert Perry reached the North Pole, Henry Ford’s Model T was put into production, oil was discovered in Iran and the Wright Brothers flew at Kitty Hawk. There were many concerns that faced those who lived in 1908. Children worked in coal mines and anarchists terrorized large cities. Theodore Roosevelt said it was time to “seriously inquire what will happen when our forests are gone…the coal, the iron, the oil and the gas exhausted.” There are similarities between today and 1908 in social, economic, and environmental areas but, there is one difference. In 1908, Americans were excited about the future. Harper’s Weekly asked, “Is it possible that at this very moment we are living in the dawn of the veritable Golden Age?” Jim Rasenberger wrote a book comparing 1908 and the present. He says there are two ways to look at the future. You can be a rooster or a hawk.
-
“Roosters crow about the imminent dawn. Apocalyptic prophets, messianic pretenders, chronologists calculating an imminent doomsday – they all want to rouse the courtyard, stir the animals into action. Owls are night animals; they dislike both noise and light; they want to hush the roosters, insisting that it is still night, that the dawn is still far away, that the roosters are not only incorrect but dangerous.” As you look to the new year, I want to encourage you to look at the new year as a year of opportunity. We have the opportunity to reach people for Christ but only if we take action. We have the opportunity to grow in our relationship with God, but only if we take action. We have the opportunity to build relationships with others, but only if we take action. We have opportunities. We must take action. I anxiously look forward to how God will use all of you in 2015.

You still have time to submit your year-end contribution to Memorial Drive Baptist Church!
I just received notification that Obama has extended the privilege of rolling over up to $100,000 from your IRA account as a charitable contribution, ifififif it is received at MDBC by Wednesday, December 31, 2014. UrgentUrgentUrgentUrgent IRA Rollover Update:IRA Rollover Update:IRA Rollover Update:IRA Rollover Update: Congress has passed, and President Obama has signed, last-minute legislation that re-extends through 2014 the exclusion for direct charitable IRA distributions by tax-payers 70.5 years and older. That exclusion had expired as of December 31, 2013. The renewal is retroactive for all of 2014. The legislation does not include any special provisions for relief associated with the fact that the legislation was pass at the very end of the year to which is applies. Some taxpayers who meet the criteria for making direct charitable distributions form their IRAs may realize a substantial tax benefit by taking advantage of this opportunity before the end of the year. For taxpayers who qualify, up to $100,00 per taxpayer may be excluded from income under this provision of the law. If you believe that such a gift may be appropriate for you, we encourage you to promptly consult with your tax advisor and IRA custodian, as this limited
