Memoorihasidentified482privatecompaniesfoundedbetween2009and2018inthesmartbuildingssector,whichcomplywithourdefinitionofbeingaStartup(Seebelow).InadditiontothisMemooriidentified109startupsthatbeenacquiredand13firmsthatfiledforanIPOsince2009,amountingtoover600activenewentrantsinthesmartcommercialbuildingssector.

2018hasprovedtobearecordyearforinvestmentintheglobalsmartbuildingssector,withover$2.4billioninvestedinstartups;showingincreasedconfidencebyinvestorsinthesectorandindicatingthepositiveresponsecompaniesarereceivingfortheirproductsandservicesinthemarket.

Weidentified109acquisitionsofstartupcompaniesoverthelast7years.2018accountedforover37%oftheseemergingplayerdealsconfirmingtheconsolidationtrendandincreasingrecognitionbypotentialacquirersofthebenefitsofclosercollaborationwithstartups.
