o This year, floats will be done by team. First years and juniors will work together on a float, as will sophomores and seniors. You will receive a float registration form in your box (also attached electronically with this correspondence): you need to fill it out by the deadline given on the form and schedule times when students from your team can come and help build the float. You have a set amount of money that you are allowed to spend on the float from your student organization (class) allocated budget. The class must accept financial responsibility if any materials fall beyond this amount. Your float will be judged on creativity, relevance to theme, overall appearance, and spirit and enthusiasm of participants riding or walking with the float. Please carefully read and adhere to the attached regulations regarding float construction.

o On Saturday, October 11th, your float should get lined-up by 12:30 pm in front of Breed. Our parade will begin at 1:00pm.

Float Building & Clean-up Guidelines

1. Classes will be granted access to appropriate buildings starting Monday, September 29.

2. Class officers will formally meet with Student Activities, a member of CCAB (preferably

a chair), and the AC (s) to discuss rules and accountability on September 29th at 12:00pm

in SU B106. Please send at least one representative from your class; you may bring your

lunch downstairs. No class may start decorating before this meeting takes place.

3. A drop cloth or tarp must be used under decorating area. You may use allocated funds

outside of your $75 allotment.

4. A minimum fine of $50 per class per area has been set for teams who do not clean

appropriately in their space (during and after float building). This fine will also include

removal of materials, which should be done by Tuesday, October 14th.

5. This fine will also be in place for damages. The fine is a minimum of $50 per class.

Classes will be responsible for the cost of any and all damage.

6. All Residence Life rules (visitation, quiet hours, etc.) apply throughout the duration of

float building.

7. The AC(s) will notify Student Activities if anything is damaged or excessively littered

during build time; however, Ludy Bowl Chairs and Student Activities staff will be

responsible for daily walk-throughs to check for violations.

8. Label all pieces of your float so nothing is accidentally trashed by Facilities.

9. Make sure float pieces are out of doorways and walking paths. Do not tape anything to

the walls, even for a short period.

10. Make sure all paint and decorating tools are picked up and placed in a box or plastic

container when finished.

Page 5: Memo to Class Officers

11. The use of glitter and glitter spray is strictly prohibited. You may use sparkle glue and

sequins.

12. The use of flammable materials or products or improper use of anything that could be a

fire hazard is also strictly prohibited.

13. Take all trash out to the 2 dumpsters located next to McNair and beside C3PD.

14. On the day of the parade, all materials should be cleaned up after the parade is over.

Groups may face fines if pieces of the floats are left around campus or not disposed of

properly. All vehicles and trailers used to haul your float must also be returned.

If these expectations are not met, class officers will receive a call from an Area Coordinator discussing the situation and will receive a warning before a fine.
