COMMUNICATIONS
2016-2017
OBJECTIVE:Increase membership and provide added value to members; better identify the value of membership to existing and potential members.
GUIDING CHAPTER THEMEEach year the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter selects a theme to use as a guiding principal behind our programming and initiatives. This year, the theme is “cultivate”. IIDA members can … cultivate their career, cultivate their studio, cultivate a team, cultivate leadership, cultivate growth, cultivate our industry, Or… cultivate IIDA! The design industry has entered an age where change is constant and growth is imperative. As an advocate for our industry, IIDA believes it is our duty to provide opportunities that foster growth and create increased value for our members. IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter does through providing membership with quality programming and member benefits.

MEMBERSHIP OUTREACHThis year, the Chapter added Modern Luxury Magazine as a Chapter Media Sponsor. The agreement allowed our Chapter to promote events and updates with both print issues and e-blast to recipients throughout the state of Texas, including major metropolitan areas like Dallas and Houston. It also provided the Chapter with a brand new channel to reach potential members and promote the importance of Interior Design.

MEMBERSHIP OUTREACHThe Chapter continues to grow our social media presence through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Each new event brings new followers, and we have explored the effectiveness of strategically boosting key posts to reach a wider social media audience. Our social media platforms are used for a variety of reasons to communicate with our Members. In addition to the Chapter Facebook page, each one of the eight City Centers has their own Facebook page for a total of 6,168 followers among them.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
CHAPTER MEMBER BENEFITSIn addition to the benefits that members receive through IIDA Headquarters, the Texas Oklahoma Chapter provides additional benefits to our members. These benefits allow us to increase value of IIDA membership at a local level. It also encourages member involvement and aids with member retention.
The IIDA TX OK Education Fund is funded by the Chapter. Most of the income is generated through IIDA Leaders Breakfast in both Dallas and Houston. This year, the Chapter raised almost $20,000 between our two Leaders Breakfast events. The TX OK Education Fund gives a total of 5 Scholarships and Grants through three different awards each year. The Tuition Reimbursement Scholarship is $4,000 and is given to three students, and the Study Abroad Scholarship is $4,000 and is given to one student. The Chapter also offers a Special Initiatives Grant to help faculty and students within Texas and Oklahoma, by providing funding resources in three categories: Research, Educational Experience, and Educational tools, up to $3,000. Additionally, recipients of these awards receive free registration and paid travel and lodging for IIDA Student Conference.
Each year, the Chapter offers seven NCIDQ Exam Reimbursement Awards to IIDA members that have passed all three sections of the exam within the past three years. The Chapter awards up to $1,265 towards the cost of the exam, or towards preparation costs if the individual’s employer pay for the exam. The Chapter awarded $5,299 to IIDA members in 2016.
The IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter offers an NCIDQ Study Course twice a year with in-person classes in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Additionally, individuals throughout the entire chapter can access online study materials in lieu of attending an in-person class. Several of our in-person courses are in such high demand that they sell out within hours of registration opening. This year, as an added benefit to our members, the Chapter opened registration to IIDA members two weeks before non-members were allowed access to register. IIDA members also receive a substantial discount for the NCIDQ Study Course, which includes study materials and a mock Practicum exam purchased by the Chapter from CIDQ.
This past year, City Centers have used project tours, and other “in-demand” events, and made them “members only” events. These events sold out and were a great reminder to the rest of the design community that being a member of IIDA provides exclusive
benefits that you can’t get anywhere else. Additionally, several City Centers hosted “members only” networking events as a special thank you to their members.
The City Centers each offer free or discounted event attendance to IIDA Members. Tours and CEUs that are open to all are free for IIDA members, and non-members are charged as much as to $50 to attend. For special events, if IIDA members are charged, then non-members are charged at least 40% more than IIDA members.
IIDA members submitting projects for our Excellence in Design Awards receive a $100 discount on the cost of submission. Winners in the Student and Educator categories also receive a complimentary ticket and paid travel to the Inspire Awards Gala so that they may accept their award.
The IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter Emerging Leaders Program is available only to IIDA members. We recognize the value that this program adds to an individual’s professional development and career, and we wanted to make sure that a benefit like that was one that only members could receive.
The Chapter Leadership Summit is another recent benefit that we’ve created for our members. Not only is Chapter Leadership in attendance, but we encourage all of our City Center Councils to attend and bring with them new volunteers that they would like to encourage to become more involved. We use Chapter Leadership Summit as both a recruitment tool as well as a development tool, offering training that is not only beneficial for leadership within IIDA, but also for members’ careers.
The Chapter holds a Student Design Charrette each year at IIDA Student Conference, and only IIDA members are able to participate. The winners of the Charrette are given the opportunity to travel to Chicago for the IIDA NeoCon Charrette with all expenses paid.
Each year, the Chapter and City Centers offer travel awards for students to attend IIDA Student Conference. These awards help reduce the cost of attending Student Conference and encourage higher participation. Up to $2,500 is offered to IIDA members throughout the entire Texas Oklahoma Chapter.
