STAFF, STUDENTS, PARENTS AND CARERS ALL HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AT

MELTON SOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL.

EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE SAFE EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE RESPECTED

EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO LEARN

PREP 2020 ENROLMENT FORMS: If you have a Prep student starting next year, please ensure you have submitted the Enrolment Form and relevant documents as we are in the process of allocating students to grades. If you have not returned your forms, please do so urgently. If your enrolment is not submitted and complete, your child may not be able to commence school on the first day next year.

We currently have 134 Prep students enrolled for 2020.

GRADES 2020: Teachers devote many hours to the development of new grades, taking many factors into consideration. If you have any specific requests, please put them into writing to the Principal marked Confidential and hand into the office by Friday 1st November. All requests will be given due consideration. Please note that only requests received by this date will be considered.

To assist with this process, we ask any families/students who are moving to another area and not returning to Melton South Primary School in 2020 to notify the school office as soon as possible. This information is critical for class structure and staffing.

PREP TRANSITION: Yesterday we welcomed our 2020 Prep students for their first transition session. The children were very settled and enjoyed their first session working in the classrooms. Parents met our leadership team, our Wellbeing team members, Teaching and Learning Coaches and our First Aid Officer. Thank you to Kylie Collision for organising the kinder to Prep transition program. Our next transition session will be held on 14th November from 1.45pm to 2.45pm.

STAFFING: Mrs Emma Leighton has returned 3 days a week after being on family leave. Mrs Nicole Healy is currently on leave and Ms Debbie Bennett will stay in her grade for the remainder of her year. Mrs Kelly will return in week 4. We also welcome Gary Vella to our staff as our new Facilities Officer.

GRADUATION: Planning is well under way for the Grade 6 Graduation which is held at the Galli Winery. Notes have been sent home advising parents of date, times, dress code etc. Please note, due to the high numbers of students graduating only two guests per student can accompany them to graduation. Unfortunately we cannot make any exceptions. Thank you for your understanding.

NAPLAN RESULTS: NAPLAN results for students in grades 3 and 5 are now available for parents to collect from the office. Parents are advised we will not be sending home the reports with the children. PARKING AROUND THE SCHOOL: As the school is growing larger every week, we ask all parents and carers to be very cautious when dropping and picking students up. We are aware of the congestion in the streets and in the car parks around the school and ask that everyone obeys the road rules and is patient with others.

Mrs Marilyn Costigan,

Principal

UNIFORM SHOP on ORIENTATION DAY: The Uniform Shop will be open at 2.30pm on Thursday 14th November to coincide with our next prep 2020 Orientation in addition to the usual time of 8.30am to 9.00am Thursday morning.

April, 2020, please ensure you have returned your child’s completed enrolment form.

This information allows us to commence planning for the coming year and it is vital that we

establish student numbers for 2020 as early as possible.

SCHOOL LEVEL PARENT PAYMENT CHARGES—2020

The Department of Education and Training has issued specific guidelines, which provide details of those materials, activities and services which parents in general can be expected to pay, such as; Stationery Packs—which vary for each level—we have arranged bulk orders to the school to help reduce the costs

to families. These packs will be distributed direct to your child’s classroom in 2019.

Core Items—student diary, ID card & lanyard and other items depending on year level.

Bulk Classroom Supplies—paper, glue sticks, pencils, scissors, pens, markers, independent reading boxes, etc.

Literacy and Numeracy—subscriptions for Mathletics and Reading Eggs which students access at school and

home. Also includes subscriptions to numerous other ICT programs which are only accessible at school.

Classroom Project Materials, cooking and art consumables.

The Education & Training Reform Act provides free instruction in the standard curriculum to all students in government schools. Free instruction is the teaching staff, administration and provision of facilities. The Act also empowers School Councils to charge fees to parents for goods and services provided by the school to a child.

Melton South Primary School Council has set the charges for 2020. Total cost of Essential Learning Items are Grade 1 to 6 $175.00 per student and Prep $185.00 per student, which include:

We strongly encourage families to start paying for these fees now as they must be

paid in full by Tuesday 22nd January, 2020 to ensure your child has the necessary

equipment and resources to start the school year. If you have not paid for fees by the

due date, your child will not have all the items needed to start the year and will have

to wait until payment is received before we can provide these essential learning

items.

Thank you to those families that have paid their fees or have started paying them off.

GRADE 6 GRADUATION: will be held on Monday 2nd December at Galli Estate Restaurant. Cost is $50.00 per student which will cover the students meal, DJ and graduation packs for all graduating students. Money is due by Monday 25th November and no late payments can be accepted as we need to advise the restaurant of exact numbers attending. Please note that this is NOT a CSEF approved activity.

Students are asked to arrive at the venue no earlier than 5.30pm for a 6.00pm sharp start.

Parents/carers are invited to view the graduation ceremony starting at 6.00pm—LIMIT 2 guests per student.

After the graduation ceremony parents/carers will then leave whilst the students and staff have dinner followed by a disco.

Children will need to be collected from the restaurant at 9.00pm sharp following the disco.

Dress code—NO DENIM or SHORTS or BOARD SHORTS —shoes appropriate for dancing, no runners please A shirt with a collar and trousers. Age appropriate dresses/skirts.

LIBRARY NEWS: Regular notices for overdue library books go home to parents throughout the year, usually once a term,

this is a normal Library process. I ask all parents for their co-operation in helping their children locate these books, it is very

easy for them to be misplaced. Check their bedroom, under beds, couches, chairs or amongst their own books and toys.

Get your child to check in their classroom library in case they have returned it there in error.

If you cannot find the missing book(s), please return the overdue note with a brief explanation (eg, we misplaced it, ...…) and

sign it. Return the note to Mrs Handley in the Library or to your child’s classroom teacher. Once the notice is processed

through the library computer system, the overdue book will be deleted from your child’s file.

It would be great if you could encourage your children to take care of their library books by reading

with clean hands, no food or drink near books and use their book bags to store and transport the

books to and from school.

Mrs Vicki Handley, Librarian.
