It was great to see lots of familiar faces here lastEaster and summer and many new ones.

At Millfield we always Achieve Great International Communication – in fact it was MAGIC.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a hugethank you to all of the wonderful staff, students,parents and agents for all of your support.

Thoughts now turn to 2015 where we aim to makeit bigger and better yet again, and ensure that everystudent and member of staff leaves with memoriesthat will last a lifetime. We are keeping our specialoffer for Easter; book the first week and get thesecond week for half price! In the summer wecontinue to be Four Schools One Family and wehave added some exciting new Academies. As theysay, you can never have too much of a good thing,so we have added an extra week to Millfield,Millfield Junior and Wells Cathedral School. I am particularly excited though about ourEuropean Week to Paris, Venice and Rome (see page 74).

English LessonsProviding our students with a good quality learning experience is ourmain aim, therefore on all of our courses throughout the year, weprovide English lessons in the mornings.

At all of our campuses, students will have 15 hours of English Tuitionper week, with trained teachers. All students attend 3 hours of Englishclasses during the morning on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday andSaturday. Students are tested on arrival and placed in classes aftertaking factors including level, age, gender and nationality into account.

In order to expose the students to two different styles of teaching andtwo different English accents, each class is allocated two teachers. All teaching materials are provided and are included in the cost of thecourse. On successful completion of the course, all students will receivean academic report, general report and course certificate.

Students can further improve their English by studying extraEnglish and Exam Classes in the afternoons, see page 60 formore information.

Each student will receive a Course and VocabularyOrganiser, written by Mark Greenow, which is an

essential part of the academic programme and usedin every lesson.

It is a “thinking notebook” with sections foreach part of the English learning experience.

It also includes a diary, which students areencouraged to complete, a mini-dictionary and plastic

wallets for storing postcards, class copies etc. making eachstudent’s learning experience unique.

Easter12-17years29th March – 12th April 2015Millfield is proud to offer a unique Easter Course where students can attend for one week (29th March – 5th April or 5th - 12th April) or two weeks (29thMarch – 12th April) and experience the magic of Millfield in Somerset. Students will have 15 hours of English tuition per week in the mornings, they can then choose either of the below afternoon activities.

Preparation for UK Schools – This is ideal for students hoping to start full-time education in the UK to get a taste of the British education system. Academic subject based English with a multi-cultural approach.

Sports & Recreation – We have a philosophy that every student has a talent, and we aim to provide students with the opportunity to try and discover that talent during our Sports & Recreation afternoon option. Each day students have the chance to choose from a wide range of activities with a variety of sporting and non-sporting options, to test themselves in a non-professional environment with an emphasis on fun.

Course also includes a full social programme, plus one full day and one half day excursion per week, including London & Oxford.

OFFER – For 2015 we are offering students the opportunity to book the first week and get the second week at half price.

Millfield is situated in a safe and beautiful environment, and ourboarding houses are no exception. All of our boarding houses aremodern with separate boys and girls houses, with the majority ofhouses being located onsite. Our staff are also accommodated inthe same houses, and each house has a Residential Co-ordinatorand assistant who are responsible for the running of the houseand the health and welfare of the students living there.

For the Younger OnesMillfield Junior Campus is situated in Glastonbury in a safe andbeautiful area. The secluded grounds make it an ideal child-friendly zone where students are looked after by our trainedstaff 24 hours a day. We have an excellent staff / student ratioto ensure the students have all the freedom, enjoymentand safety that they require.

Our Millfield Junior accommodation is perfect for youngerchildren. The majority of our houses are based onsite witha few off campus.

We have separate boys and girls boarding houses and all ofour houses are unique with a modern twist.

Millfield goes to Europe is a one week action-packed excursionwhere students will have the chance to visit Paris, Rome and Venice.

Students will visit iconic sights such as the Eiffel Tower, Versailles, LouvreMuseum, Disneyland Paris, Sistine Chapel, Roman Colosseum, St. Mark’s Square andmay choose to take a trip on the world famous gondolas.

This amazing trip incurs an extra fee, and if you are not from the EU then you will haveto apply for a Schengen Visa along with a UK Visa before March 2015 in order to attend.

Places are limited, and all bookings must be made before March 2015 in order to securea place. So book now to avoid disappointment.

Terms and ConditionsBalance of FeesThe balance of fees is due before the start of the course (see CourseFees form/at the end of the online booking process for final paymentdate). Places will be cancelled and the deposit (£300) retained if thebalance is outstanding after this date. Places will be re-instated onlyupon receipt of full fees and subject to availability. For credit/debit cardpayments, the balance will be automatically deducted from theprovided credit/debit card on or shortly after the date stated on theapplication form. Please note that if you are booking online, Millfielddo not have access to your credit card details provided to our paymentsystem. Therefore balances will not be taken on the due date. Pleasecontact the administration team with payment details. Please ensurethat credit /debit card limits are sufficient to cover fees and that there isno security block. Bookings made after this date must be accompaniedby the full payment, and are subject to availability. If paying by banktransfer, please be aware that the parent/guardian/agent must pay allbank charges related to the payment. Course fees are fully inclusive oftuition, meals, accommodation, laundry, excursions and activities withinthe programme. Airport transfer service, Trinity Examination,London/Oxford Weekends, Millfield Goes to Europe and additionalcourse payments are not included. Optional activities offered alongsidethe arranged programme are available at extra cost. A damage depositof £30 is payable on arrival from the students’ pocket money. If nodamage is caused by the student, the £30 will be refunded in full tothe student in cash on departure. If damage has been caused by thestudent, some or all of the £30 will be retained by Millfield to pay forsaid damage.

CancellationAll cancellations/course changes are to be notified to MillfieldEnterprises in writing. The initial deposit (£300) is non-refundable.

Final payment must be received by the date shown on the Course Feesform/ at the end of the online booking process or the booking will becancelled and the deposit retained. All fees paid will be retained in theevent of cancellation of the whole course on or after the date statedon the form. In the event of the course being cancelled by Millfield, analternative course or a full refund will be offered.

Course ChangesOnce the application has been processed, a £10 administration fee willbe charged for each course change per student.

AccommodationSome students may be required to change houses. We will do our bestto avoid disruption and students will be informed in advance duringtheir stay.

Photographs and VideosNames, photographs and videos may be taken and used electronicallyfor marketing purposes – objections will be respected.

EnrolmentTo successfully enrol a student please complete the online applicationform by visiting www.englishholidaycourses.com. Any incomplete orunclear forms/online sections may cause a delay in securing a place forthe student. All forms (except the Student Travel Details) must bereceived before an application can be processed. A non-refundabledeposit of £300 will be required when booking.No booking is secured until the deposit is paid.

InsuranceMillfield Enterprises has partnered with Endsleigh to provide studentswith insurance whilst they study with us. We are working together toensure students have adequate insurance for their time spent studyingon our courses. They will be covered under the Millfield Enterprisespolicy which has been specially designed for overseas students studyingin the UK. The cost of this insurance is included in the course fees.Please check that it meets the student’s requirements. If morespecialist/increased cover is required, please obtain alternativeinsurance. TravelIt is the parents’/agent’s responsibility to arrange flights. Please informus of the student’s flight details and request airport transfers if requiredby completing the Student Travel Details form and returning it to us.Ideal times for arrival or departure at UK airports are between 12.00and 18.00 on the allocated transfer Sundays. Some students may haveto await the arrival of other students before leaving the airport forMillfield. Please note that all journeys outside the offered transferSundays and to and from different airports than those offered will needto be arranged by the parent/agent. To arrange transport from adifferent airport or on an alternative date you can contact TonyDubens via e-mail at [email protected] or by phoning Tony on+44 (0) 7900 555 666. Alternatively, students can make their owntravel arrangements.

Please note: Millfield Enterprises will not accept responsibility fororganising airport transfers other than on the specified dates or at thedesignated airports. General InformationProfessional StaffApart from the full-time staff which includes the Director of HolidayCourses and Course Administrators, Millfield is fortunate to havemany top quality staff who return year after year for the EnglishLanguage Holiday Courses. Our staff members are specially selectedfor their wide range of skills and their ability to communicateeffectively with people of all ages and cultures.

Arrival and DepartureThe Student Travel Details form/online section must be completedand returned by the date specified on the form. Students who haverequested a Millfield transfer will be met at the airport by a MillfieldRepresentative who will be wearing a red Millfield t-shirt and carryinga Millfield sign. Please be aware that sometimes there areunavoidable delays and there may be a short wait at the terminal.Every effort is made to ensure that the students are transferred asquickly as possible. Staff will accompany students back to the airportand supervise the check-in procedure. Students who wish not to usethe Millfield transfer service should make their own arrival anddeparture arrangements and inform us of these by completing thecorrect section on the application form.

Pocket Money and ValuablesAlthough everything needed is included in the price of the course,students may wish to bring pocket money to purchase souvenirs. Wealso occasionally offer activities in addition to the normal programmesuch as cinema or bowling which would require pocket money. Werecommend about £50 per week and a maximum of £100 per week.Students should bring their pocket money in cash sterling. We havea cash machine facility on campus for which students can use a Debitor Preloaded Cash Card. You should ensure that the student hassufficient pocket money to cover the £30 damage deposit requiredon arrival at Millfield. If no damage is caused by the student, the £30will be refunded in full to the student in cash on departure. Ifdamage has been caused by the student, some or all of the £30 willbe retained by Millfield to pay for said damage. Residential Co-ordinators will exchange any foreign money. Pocket money, passportsand tickets will be collected from students on arrival, and be storedin a locked safe monitored by the student’s Residential Co-ordinator.

Health and WelfareA Residential Co-ordinator is appointed to manage each house andthey have responsibility for the health and welfare of all students intheir house. Students who report that they are feeling unwell areinitially seen by a nurse at one of the Medical Centres. The nurseassesses the student and either provides medication or advice, oradvises visiting the local Doctor’s surgery. An appointment canusually be made for the same or next day. In an emergency thestudent is taken to the local hospital. In all cases of illness, theResidential Co-ordinator and other members of staff will check thestudent regularly and ensure that he/she is comfortable. Students aresupervised 24 hours a day and we ensure that as many of our staffas possible are qualified in First Aid. Please ensure that the MedicalInformation form/online section is completed and returned.

School RulesIn order to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of all students, aCode of Conduct is in place that must be followed by everyone. It isessential that everyone is aware of these rules. Millfield reserves theright to discipline and in extreme cases to expel the student at theparents’ or guardian’s expense, without the refund of fees. Pleaserefer to the Parents’/Agents’ Manual for the Code of Conduct.

How to solve a problemIf a student has a problem, it is important that they bring it to theattention of staff as soon as it arises. Any member of staff can beapproached and will be willing to give assistance. For specific help,they can speak to the Pastoral Manager for accommodation, healthand nutrition issues; the Academic Manager for any learning orteaching issues; and the Sports Manager for sport and activity issues.If the problem is not resolved satisfactorily they should contact theCentre Manager who has overall responsibility for the course. He/shecan be approached directly or through other staff at any time. Officialcomplaints should be directed to the Director of Holiday Courses andEvents, Mr Mark Greenow on:

AccommodationWe have separate girls’ and boys’ accommodation, and students mayonly mix in recreational areas of the houses. Some of the olderstudents may enjoy the privacy of their own single room with sharedbathroom facilities (although some may have en-suite), whileyounger students share 2, 3 or 4-bedded rooms and bathroomfacilities. The Millfield Junior Campus offers 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6-beddedrooms with shared bathroom facilities. Each house has payphonesto make international calls, and telephones which can receiveincoming calls. Important messages can be left with the CourseAdministrators during office hours (09.00 – 17.00 hours UK time):

Clothes and LaundryStudents should bring, as far as possible, machine washable casualand sports clothes for everyday activities and variable weatherconditions, and some smart clothes for special occasions. Englandcan sometimes be wet and cold. Please ensure students have ajumper, a waterproof coat and suitable footwear. Clothes arelaundered twice a week by the school. Students have to sort theirown clothes when they are returned clean, so please label themclearly with the student’s name/family name. Students must bringtheir own bath towels. Bed linen is supplied and changed once aweek.

MealsAll meals are provided and most are served in the dining hall on eachcampus. The quality of the food is very high and the schools areexperienced in catering for different religious persuasions and lifestylepreferences. At breakfast we offer a choice of cooked food (i.e.sausages, egg, bacon), cereal and fruit. At lunch and supper we offerboth hot food and salad. Vegetarian options are available at allmeals. Packed lunches are provided on excursions and occasionallysupper will be a special barbecue outside. Refreshments are providedin the afternoon break.
