Cable Networks

Cable networks provide the means through which theMegaPower 48 Main Electronics Unit communicateswith receiver/driver units and domes. Three types ofnetworks can be used with the Manchester, SensorNet,or SEC-422 protocols.

● Daisy Chain – in a daisy chain configuration, aseparate cable connects each device to the next devicein the chain.

● Backbone – in a backbone configuration, a single, continuous cable connects all domes in the networklink.

● Star – in a star configuration, up to four branchesconnect to a central hub location (typically a J-Box orother data distribution unit). Domes can attach withseparate cables (daisy chain style),

or, with a single continuous cable (backbone style).

Note: both ends of a cable run must be terminated.Black device blocks illustrated above indicateterminated devices.

System CommunicationsThe MegaPower 48 CPU communicates with systemdevices through four communications protocols:● RS-232 (PC icon)● SEC RS-422 (dome icon)● SensorNet (dome icon)● Manchester (dome icon)

RS-422, SensorNet, and Manchester protocols are usedin the control of domes and pan/tilt cameras.RS-232 enables communications with systemkeyboards, PCs, auxiliaries, alarm interface units, external modems, port expanders, and video recorderinterface units.

Manchester CommunicationsThere is a single Manchester connector on theMegaPower 48 patch panel. The connector consists ofthree terminals labeled Black (“B”), White (“W”), andShield (“S”). Manchester is a one-way communicationsprotocol.
