QUALITY PLANNING INPUTS OF MEGA THAR CANAL

Microbiological Contamination in drinking water has emerged as most dominant problem. Most of the consumer end samples from supplies and ground water have been found to be contaminated when tested In Tharparker.

Resource Factors to meet the prescribed laws related to the hygiene and clean water under the provision of Pakistan Environmental Protection Act and National Environmental Quality Standard.

Page 106: Mega Thar Canal

QUALITY POLICY OF MEGA THAR CANAL

To provide safe and hygiene drinkable and usable water which meets the requirements of NEQS, such that to have an acceptable microbiological contents in the water.

Control of contamination by proper laying procedures of pipes.

Control the noise level of the power plants, Batching Plants and others up to 78 db.

Quality of the construction material will be tested by the instruments.

QUALITY ASSURANCE ACTIONS - Recommendations

Quality Inspection of the canal – Operation.

Canal will be Maintained regularly after every 6 months.

Chlorine cylinders would be replaced and would be inspected for its filtration capability every 3 days by the QA department.

All the Water Inlets and Out lets would be Cleaned for fungus and other bacteria's and would be fumigated with recommended chemicals for safety for water.

Canal would be inspected for its civil Performance by the QA department along with the civil engineering staff from the civil department.

Page 114: Mega Thar Canal

Quality will be assured by following tests for Water Quality (THAR CANAL)

The tests are carried out based on NEQS testing procedure and others.

Some quick test indicator of microbiological contamination like Blue Algae count and Cynobacteria test may be given a consideration so that water can be tested before delivering and consumption by the citizens.

Chlorination, Treatment with UV light or Ozonation will be applied according to suitability of situation before supply is released to the consumer for consumption.

Titration test method for carbonates, bicarbonate, magnesium, calcium contents to see metal growth in the water.

Page 115: Mega Thar Canal

Spectrophotometer method for determining the contents of potassium, sulphate in water.

We will verify the same report through third party independent lab such as PCSIR, SGS.

It is recommended that water supply mains are not pressurized 24 hours a day in the city. Otherwise the water will inevitably be contaminated, and which will require further treatment which consequently incurring more cost.

The test for noise can be carried out in environmental lab such as GEL (Global Environment Lab) or SGS etc.

Quality will be assured by following tests for Water Quality (THAR CANAL) Contd..
