During this celebration, people decorate their homes with sugarcane, mango leaves and draw decorative patterns on the floor known as ‘kolam’. FEBRUARY Thaipusam 3 February 2015 Batu Caves, Selangor This extraordinary festival pays homage to the Hindu deity Lord Muruga. Thousands of devotees carry milk pots and ornate frames known as ‘kavadis’ to fulfil their vows. At night, a grand chariot procession takes place in major cities. Thaipusam is celebrated on a grand scale in Batu Caves, Selangor and also in other destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Kedah.
