Terrence Blaschke, MD Meeting Co-Chair 2018

Courtney Fletcher, PharmD

Meeting Co-Chair 2018

Dear Colleague,

Understanding the clinical pharmacology of antiviral therapy is pivotal to designing optimal treatment and prevention strategies. Drug exposure is significantly influenced by drug interactions, medication taking behavior, and patients’ physiologic and genetic characteristics. These factors are central to determining therapeutic efficacy, failure or toxicity. Despite great progress, many pharmacologic challenges still exist.

The International Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology of Antiviral Therapy will again provide a platform for discussions of current topics fundamental to the optimal use of antiviral therapy including drug-drug interactions, pharmacokinetics of investigational agents and existing drugs, pharmacodynamics, drug dosing in special populations, post-marketing surveillance, and regulatory considerations.

NEEDS STATEMENT

MEETING OBJECTIVES

• To gather experts involved in clinical pharmacology from different disciplines in an interactive workshop setting

• To provide a platform for presentation and discussion of the latest developments in the field

• To share information on ongoing pharmacological studies

• To translate new data to treatment guidelines

• To stimulate discussion and consensus on best practices

UNIQUE MEETING FEATURES

The Clinical Pharmacology workshop is a unique platform where industry, academic and governmental pharmacologists and regulatory scientists share and discuss the latest developments and challenges in clinical pharmacology. Improved knowledge on drug efficacy/toxicity and potential drug interactions enables clinicians to further optimize antiviral treatment and prevention interventions.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience of this workshop consist of experts in antiviral therapy; clinical pharmacologists, pharmacists, clinicians, industry representatives, regulatory scientists, government representatives, postgraduate students and others involved in the clinical pharmacology of antiviral therapy.

LEARNING OUTCOMES / IMPACT

Participants of this workshop will able to incorporate the new information into clinical guidance for improved disease management of their patients. The knowledge on drug efficacy/toxicity and potential drug interactions will enable clinicians to better manage treatment related complications and thereby further optimize antiviral treatment and prevention.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

To assess the meeting, Virology Education provides each delegate with a detailed feedback form where they can assess the speakers, whether or not the meeting objectives were met, their intent to change, the rationale behind their motivation to attend, the general logistics of the meeting, and much more.

All the questions are then fully analyzed and a comprehensive report is created and shared with the committee members. These reports help us better understand our delegates and how to make the next meeting better.

For a maximum response rate, we invite the chairs of each session to encourage the participants to take a few minutes and complete the feedback forms. We are also introducing a web-based application to allow participants access to the feedback forms electronically.

ORGANIZER

The International Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology of Antiviral Therapy is being organized by Virology Education.

ACCREDITATION

This workshop is a non-accredited workshop.

INFOGRAPHICS 2016

The 17TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY OF HIV & HEPATITIS THERAPY was held on 8-10 June 2016 at the Washington Plaza Hotel and was attended by nearly 160 participants from 20 countries. The meeting gathers a steady international community of researchers and healthcare professionals.

Professional background of the participants is reflected in the below chart:

Professional Background

Pharmacologist; 43%

Pharmacist; 20%

Researcher; 19%Other; 8%

Cl inician; 6%

Student; 5%

Marketing person; 1%

IMPACT97% of the respondents indicated that the content of the workshop increased their knowledge, and 83% indicated that the workshop is beneficial for the clinical management of their patients. Furthermore, 86% of the respondents indicated that they intend to incorporate the new information into their daily practice after attending the workshop.

On average, 90% of the respondents indicated that the learning objectives were met.

PROGRAMThe program included 25 invited lectures, 15 oral abstract presentations, three poster viewing sessions, a pro-con debate and two roundtable discussions. Ample time was allocated for discussion. Just as last year, 3/4 day was dedicated to Hepatitis C resistance, by way of incorporating the 11th International Workshop on Hepatitis C: Resistance and New Compounds. The presentation of, Dr Catia Marzolini entitled “Will we see the Back of DDIs” (Back to the Future: 40 years of Clinical Pharmacology) received the highest score (an average of 4,5 (out of 5)) on all categories.

GENERAL MEETING SCORE98% of the participants rated the meeting experience as excellent/good. 96% would recommend this meeting to their peers and 89% intend to attend next year.

The Organizing Committee and the Organizing Secretariat are pleased with the evaluation results of the 17th edition of this meeting and are looking forward to an even more successful edition in 2017!

“Best meeting I go to each year”

CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION GRANTS

The conference participation grants provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to attend a conference they would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial restrictions. All applications include a CV, a motivation letter, and potentially an abstract (requirements vary depending on the workshop). These are submitted via an independent CPG portal and are evaluated against the assessment criteria using robust, impartial and independent peer review processes by the Grant Review Committee. This process will ensure that only the highest quality, most relevant and most competitive research is accepted.

The grants are supported by the financial contributions allocated by the sponsor, who, has no control, influence, or involvement in the selection process of the attendees whatsoever. Priority is given to applicants who have actively participated in original research or scientific work that is being presented at the meeting and/or those who will profit most from participating in order to improve their daily clinical management.

These grants help defray costs for registration, travel and accommodation for delegates and foster their ability to form valuable professional networks and develop vital collaborations. Conference participation grant applications will be solicited, selected and awarded by an expert Grant Review Committee.

Please note that the TITANIUM, PLATINUM and GOLD support levels will reduce the costs for conference participation grants. Supporters can indicate a desired number of CPGs to be granted in the response form further below.

ENDURING MATERIALSINFECTIOUS DISEASES ONLINEEnduring information presented at the conference will be freely retrievable and widely disseminated to reach thousands of virtual participants beyond the walls of the conference center. Infectious Diseases Online is a premier online platform offering scientific materials in special topical areas and proceedings of conferences. By accessing the website, visitors have full access to:

• Abstract Books

• Meeting Reports

• Workshop Presentations

• Webcasts

All the data on Infectious Diseases Online is organized by workshop and date, making the materials highly organized and easy to find.
