Once upon a time in a park far
far away! (If you walk that is) ..
FIELD DAY WARS!!!!
Fanfare .. fanfare .. fanfare.
Enough pseudo George Lucas
for now! But that time is upon
us when we will dawn our Field
Day hats and trundle off to
Lancaster City Park in pursuit
of the elusive QSO from the
varied Radio Clubs around the
country if not the world.
I can remember my first Field
Day (not that long ago). It was
all new to me and it was quite
enjoyable despite the heat.
There were things to learn,
contacts to make and friends to
enjoy. It was definitely an
experience. One of the benefits
of Field Day was that it tended
to bring the club closer together
as we worked together for a
common goal. And that goal
was to HAVE FUN! After all,
our hobby is geared to have fun,
enjoy learning, enjoy helping
each other and to Have Fun ..
oops, I think I said that already!
Oh well, such is the license I
have being the author of this
article. While we are on the
subject of Field Day, let me
review some points. First, this
year we will have a different
lineup of operators. Paul (Continued on page 3)

Hi all. Man! This month went by
fast. Caught me completely un-
prepared, which is actually nor-
mal for me. So, I'm writing this a
week and a half before Field Day.
I'm looking forward to this one
‘cause I'm expecting to have a
real good time. Of course, by the
time you read this it will be after
Field Day so I hope you all HAD
as much fun as I did.
For this month’s meeting of the
AVARC we are going to have
some Field Day photos and re-
ports of what the participants
thought of the event. Good or
bad, it doesn’t matter. We are
also going to have a few antennas
to look at, which should be inter-
esting. All very informal of
course, and designed to possibly
set the tone for future Field Days.
Or not, as the case may be. There
was a question on the club net last
month where someone asked why
we always have Field Day at the
same location, namely Lancaster
City Park. I don't remember the
gentleman’s name or call, but I
thought the question was some-
what prophetic. Larry Bianchi
and I had discussed this several
months ago, though we came to
no conclusions. In light of the
economic situation that most
communities find themselves in
these days, it’s very possible that
we may be fee’d and regulated
out of our present location in the
(Continued on page 3)
Thursday, June 28, is
the next meeting of the
AVARC at the Emer-
gency Operations Cen-
ter (EOC) at Lancaster
City Hall, 44933 N.
Fern Ave. in Lancaster.
Talk-in is available on
the Hauser Repeater
(146.73 MHz. PL 100)
if you need directions.
At this month’s meet-
ing, we will be discuss-
ing the results of our
Field Day activity.
Bring any photos you
would like to share.
Hope to see you there!

AVARC Members,
Thanks for letting HRO
meet your
Amateur Radio needs.
Members of the Acton club will be
joining us again this year
The Welcome Table
The Short Circuit 3
KD6SMC will be our GOTA (Get
on the Air) specialist. Along with
Paul, we will have Ken W6DIH,
Steve KC2RKK and once again,
the AADARC (Acton, Aqua Dulce
Amateur Radio Club) join us.
One facet of Field Day this year
will be the addition of both
A.R.E.S. and CERT joining us on
Saturday to demonstrate facets of
emergency communications as well
as training classes for new hams
who want to know more about
getting on the air with their new
equipment.
And we will be having a joint BBQ
which is always fun. Food, food
and more food; what defines Ham
Radio more than Food, Fun and
Frequencies!
Speaking of frequencies, this year,
we will not have the club trailer
with us, so the main antenna will be
the clubs’ SteppIR Vertical which
is good up to 80 meters, which is
slated for the GOTA station. The
other stations will have fun with
various verticals and wire antennas
as we show the public how easy it
will be to set up emergency
communications
Before we leave the subject of
Field Day, we are asking that most
of the operators show up on

future. Palmdale certainly
doesn’t appear very “ham
friendly” since their passage of
the infamous antenna ordinance
last year. I guess the best an-
swer to the question of why
Lancaster City Park as a Field
Day site is that when you live
in the desert, grass and shade
are nice, real nice.
(Continued from page 1)
Saturday morning about 8am.
Since we won’t have the club
tower and Yagis to set up, it will
be nicer to set up in the cool of
the morning rather than the heat
of Friday afternoon. If you want
to come on Friday, you are
welcome as we have the park
reserved from Friday noon till
4pm on Sunday.
Also, we WILL have the NASA
truck this year which means that
we will not have to worry about
power to our stations (except for
extension cords). You are, of
course, welcome to bring your
own generators and other sources
of power, but you won’t need to.
And .. If you GOTA go during
Saturday night, the rest rooms
will be left unlocked so we don’t
have to worry about having a
Porta Potty.
Well that about wraps it up for
this month. See y’all at Field
Day!!!!
Happy Hamming!

AVARC board meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month. All mem-
bers are welcome to attend, although they should let the president or another offi-
cer know that they are planning to attend, as the meetings usually include a pot-
luck dinner at the home of one of the officers.
The club net is on Wednesdays at 8:00, on the Hauser repeater (146.73 MHz PL
100). The net includes Amateur Radio Newsline, and all members and guests are
invited to check in.
