Dan hails from Patton, Pennsylvania; he is a graduate of Cambria Heights High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Harding University in Arkansas in 1977 and his master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1999. Since starting with the RAMS, Coach Duclos has won 13 MVC Coach of the Year awards, 20 District Coach of the Year awards, and was named State Coach of the Year in 1983, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2009, and 2013. In 2009, Coach Duclos coached Senior to its first state team title. He has also coached eleven individual state champions to nineteen state titles, five Medley Relay state champions, four 200 Free Relay state champions, and a 400 Free Relay state champion. In addition to these honors, Coach Duclos has coached 32 swimmers to 32 All-America honors. He is also a member of the Iowa High School Swim Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Assistant Coach Jesse Huff Assistant Coach Jesse Huff is excited to begin his 4 th season as an assistant coach of the RAMS; he is also a social studies teacher at Senior. He just completed his 3 rd season as assistant women’s swim coach at Senior this fall. Jesse is a 2007 graduate of Dubuque Senior High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Coach Huff’s experience with swimming includes four years swimming on the RAMS Swim Team, where he served as captain his senior year. He has also helped out with the RAMS as a volunteer coach for several years. Assistant Coach Logan Perleth Assistant Coach Logan Perleth begins his 3 rd year as a Senior RAMS swim coach. Logan graduated from Senior in 2008 and is currently finishing his undergraduate degree at Loras College. He swam four years with coach Duclos while in high school and qualified for the state meet his junior and senior years. He also swam four years at Loras College.

Meet the Coaches

Head Coach Dan Duclos Head Coach Dan Duclos returns for his 35th season at the helm of the RAMS Men’s Swim Team. Dan hails from Patton, Pennsylvania; he is a graduate of Cambria Heights High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Harding University in Arkansas in 1977 and his master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1999. Assistant Coach Logan Perleth Assistant Coach Logan Perleth begins his 3rd year as a Senior RAMS swim coach. Logan graduated from Senior in 2008 and is currently finishing his undergraduate degree at Loras College. He swam four years with coach Duclos while in high school and qualified for the state meet his junior and senior years. He also swam four years at Loras College.

Son of Doug and Marie Colin. Ben is a 4-year member of the team and a school record holder in the 500 Free. He is on honor roll, NHS, and is a Scholastic All-American. Ben is also a proud member of the Nasty Nation. “I plan to attend the University of Iowa and swim. This season I want to help the team succeed and hopefully be a contender at state. In college I plan on studying journalism and sports studies, hopefully I will become involved in sports media. My goals for the season are also to have fun. ‘To swim faster just pull deeper, it’s thicker down there.’-Rick Loeffelholz”

Son of Michael and Karin Friend. Mike is entering his fourth year on the team; he has also been active in soccer, speedway, and underwater basket weaving. Mike is on honor roll and is a member of Thespian Troupe 69, the Speech Team and Student Council. “My goal for the season is to beat Brad in the Breaststroke. Next year I will attend either UNI or Creighton. ‘Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith’-Brandon Pfab.”

Meet the Swimmers

Son of Cindy Selle. Carter returns for his third year on the swim team; he has also run track. For academic achievements, Carter lists that he passed. “My goals are to make it to state and not drown, but if I drown I want Jesse to save me. I plan to go to college. I’m done.”

Carter Bauer

Yancy Choquet

Son of Jean-Michel and Marianne Choquet. Yancy returns for a second year of swimming; he has also played 3 years of soccer. Yancy carries a 3.7 GPA and earned a major D for academics. “My goals for this season include having a great last year with the swimming squad and working hard. I have chosen to go to with my best friend to Santa Barbara City College then transfer to either UCSB of UCSD depending on what major I decide to choose. My future plans also include joining the Peace Corps for 2 years and helping those in need. I would like to study abroad in Barcelona and spend that time with my Spanish friends. I am glad I got to be a part of the swimming family. ‘We must take adventures in order to know where we truly belong.’”

Britt Oswald

Son of John and Mary Gronen. This is Jack’s 3rd year on the Senior swim team. Jack’s academic achievements include passing every year. He is looking forward to being finished with school. The Rams are excited to have Jack back.

Son of Rose Clancy and Mark Heiderscheit. Pato returns for his fourth year on the team. He has also participated in cross country, track, and band all four years at Senior. This fall he placed 26th at the cross country State Meet. “My goal for the season is to break 6 minutes in the 500. I’d also like to say good luck to my fellow swimmers and have a great year.”

Son of Kevin and Peggy Kraus. Landon returns for a fourth year of swimming; he also has four years of football and track and field. Academic achievements include Red Renaissance, NHS, and the National Society for High School Scholars. Landon has also been active in Rotary Club/Interact Club for 4 years. “I plan to go to either Loras College or Coe College. I have maintained a 4.05 GPA through all 4 years, so far. My goals for this season include beating Andrew Reinert in the 200 IM and getting a 22 second 50 Freestyle. A wise man once said, “Those who say ‘you can’t’ and ‘you won’t’ are the same ones who are probably scared ‘you will.’”

Son of Lonnie and Sherry Oswald. Britt is a four-year swimmer for the Rams; he has also been involved with theatre and speech for 4 years and Unscripted for 4 years. “First, Britt would like to thank everyone who has ever talked to Britt, because you have made a difference in his life. He would also like to thank his mom, Sherry, and his dad, Lonnie, for always being there for him after practice so he can fill up on things Duclos told him not to eat. Britt's goals for the season are to swim the best he can in the short time he is with the team. Before the season began, Britt enlisted in the National Guard and will go to basic training and his job training starting September 1, 2015. In the meantime, Britt will attend NICC to get into their nursing program when he comes back from training. He will then transfer to the University of Iowa to obtain his master’s degree in nursing administration. Britt’s favorite inspiring quote is by Robin Williams, ‘Carpe Diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.’”

Son of Jason and Vickie Pfab. Brandon is entering his third year on the swim team; he has also run 3 years of cross country and played four years of soccer. He hopes to graduate high school in the spring. “I plan to go to UNI and major in athletic training. I currently hold a 3.2 GPA. My goals for this season are to have a great season and get a 26.00 in my 50 free. I plan on going to state…to watch. ‘Just Keep Swimming’-Dory.”

Son of Mike and Deanne Reinert. Adam is a four-year member of the swim team; he has also participated in cross country for four years and track for two at Senior. “My goal is to swim my hardest and fastest of all my four years with Senior. I also hope to qualify for state this year. I plan on continuing school at NICC after this year. I plan on majoring in construction and minoring in auto care. I may also go to Iowa State for business management and accounting classes. My future plans include working full time in the construction field, building my own house, working on vehicles, opening and managing my own construction business, and having a good time.”

Adam Reinert

Son of Mike and Deanne Reinert. Andrew returns for a fourth year of swimming; he has also participated in cross country and track. He carries a 3.3 GPA. Andrew is active in NHS (Vice President), Student Council (President), Discovery Club, and Key Club. “My goal is to break 59 seconds in the 100 Fly. I want to go to state for swimming (and beat Landon in the 200 IM). I plan to go to Iowa State for a double major in Computer Science and Graphic Design. ‘The mind is everything. What you think, you become’-Buddha.”

Son of Bill and Cheryl Simpson. Connor is a four-year member of the team; he has also participated in football and track during his years at Senior. His academic achievements include not failing any classes and making it to most of his classes; he has also been known to sleep in class. “I am currently in the Army National Guard. I plan to go to college at Hawkeye Community College for law enforcement and then transferring to Grandview College for ROTC and to get my bachelors in Criminal Justice. I hope to either paly football or run track in college. ‘A champion is a person who believes in themselves when no one else does.’”

Son of Kurt and Rena Stierman. Drake is entering his fourth year on the team; he is also a

four year member of the soccer team. Drake’s academic achievements include Renaissance and eating a whole wheel of cheese. “My goals for this season are to score at state and help the team accomplish great things. I plan to go to *insert college here* and following that I will hijack food delivery cars for a living with the aid of Brett Harris and Charlie Warren. ‘Swimming is a confusing sport, because sometimes you do it for fun, and other times you do it to not die. And when I’m swimming, sometimes I’m not sure which one it is’-Demetri Martin."

Son of Lowell and Marie Ware. Brad returns for a fourth year on the team; he also has four years of football and track. Brad’s academic achievements include not falling asleep during school. Other Senior High activities include president of Interact Club, Student Council, Student Ambassadors, Green Dot, NHS, and Band. “I plan to attend South Dakota State Mines and Tech and go through ROTC as well as play football.”

Ben Kubitz Son of Jason and Liz Kubitz. This is Ben’s third year swimming for Senior; he also plays football and soccer. Ben’s academic achievements include being awesome at history. His goal for the season is to beat John Colin in a 50

John Colin Son of Doug and Marie Colin. This is John’s third year on the swim team. ERROR 404: Academic achievements not found John’s goal for the season is to find academic achievements.

Julian Dutzi Julian is a foreign exchange student. His host parents are Jacob and Paula Rios. This is Julian’s first season of swimming; he played football this fall. He has received good grades in both Germany and the US. Julian’s goal for the season is to improve his swimming skills so that he can swim 30 minutes without drowning.

John Dalton Son of Jeff and Sharon Dalton. John returns for a third year of swimming. He has also participated in cross country and tennis at Senior. John’s academic achievements include getting A’s most of the time. His goal for the season is to break his past personal records.

Matt Fetzer Son of Tim and Julie Fetzer. Matt is a three year member of the team; he also plays tennis at Senior. Matt’s academic achievements include the Presidential Award, solid gold honor roll, and the Dubuque Area Youth Leadership Council. His goal for the season is to go fast!

Jack Benda Son of Tom and Anne Benda. Jack returns for a third year of swimming. He has also participated in track and cross country as well as 3.14 years of underwater basket weaving. Jack is on the debate team and was accepted to DAYLC while carrying a 4.1 GPA. His goal for the season is to swim as fast as John Colin.

Andrew Breitfelder Son of Tim and Amy Breitfelder. Andrew is a three year member of the team. He has also run track for Senior. Andrew’s academic achievements include graduating pre-school. His goal for the season is to qualify for state.

Grant Knowles Son of Mike and Vickie Knowles. Grant returns for a third year on the swim team. Grant’s goals for the season are to do his best and become the best, son!!

Sophomores

Drake Oswald Son of Lonnie and Sherry Oswald. This is Drake’s second year on the team; he also plays tennis at Senior. Drake does good in school. His goal for the season is to swim fast.

Nick Topping Son of Brian and Vicky Topping. Nick is entering his third year on the team; he has also participated in cross country and 3.14 years of underwater basket weaving. Nick carries a 3.8 GPA and has been known to beat Brandon Yuan in annual math competitions. His goal for the season is to beat John Colin at the Iowa City Quad meet.

Elijah Cook Son of Bennett Cook and Mary Ellen Carroll. Elijah is a new swimmer this year. His academic achievements include receiving A’s and B’s. Elijah’s goal for the season is to improve his times in all races.

Mark Whalen Son of Mike and Karen Whalen. This is Mark’s first year on the swim team. He has run both cross country and track during his previous years at Senior. Mark carries a 3.0 GPA. His goal for the season is to break 6:00 in the 500 Freestyle.

Brandon Sindt Son of Randy and Christine Sindt. Brandon returns for a third season of swimming. He also runs cross country and track for the Rams. Brandon has been on Renaissance for two years. His goals for the season are to go to state and PR.

Josiah Benedict Son of Mark and Sandy Benedict. This is Josiah’s second year of swimming; he also participates in football and track for the Rams. Josiah’s academic achievements include taking AP computer science. His goals for the season are to swim fast and beat his best times from last year.

Tom Tigges Son of Rob and Teresa Tigges. Tom is a third year swimmer this season; he also plays tennis. Tom’s academic achievements include receiving all A’s and being on Red Renaissance for all three years of high school in all honors and AP classes. His goals for the season are to swim fast and beat times from last year.

Jacob Hansen Son of Greg and Lisa Hansen. Jacob returns for a second season of Rams swimming; he also runs track and cross country. His academic achievements include Red Renaissance and winning the American Legion award. Jacob’s goals for the season are to lap John Colin in a 50 free and to improve to the best of his ability.

Collin Sindt Son of Randy and Christine Sindt. Collin is entering his second year on the team; he has also participated in soccer and track and field. Collin is on Red Renaissance and has carried a 4.0 GPA since 6th grade, he also won the American Legion award. His goals are to go sub-minute in the 100 Fly and sub-5:30 in the 500 Free.

Isaac Current Giere Son of Sam Giere and Amy Current. Isaac is a first year swimmer; he will play tennis in the spring. His academic achievements include making it to freshman year. His goal is to continue to be the best running back on the team.

Grant Day Son of Mike and Cindy Day. Grant is entering his first year on the team; he also participates in cross country and soccer. Grant’s goal for the season is to have the team work together because team work is good for everyone.

Joe Friend Son of Mike and Karin Friend. Mike is a beginning swimmer this year; he has also participated in football, track and soccer. Joe’s academic achievements include making it to freshman year. His goal is to dream about beating John Colin in the 50.

Blake Harris Son of Greg and Joyce Harris. Blake is a new swimmer this year; he played football in the fall. Blake is on Blue Renaissance. His goal for the season is to understand how to do the butterfly.

Joe Maddux Son of Pat and Jennifer Maddux. This is Joe’s first season swimming for the Rams; he earned a minor D running cross country in the fall. His goal for the season is to help the team get to state.

Garrett Knowles Son of Mike and Vickie Knowles. Garrett is beginning his first year on the team; he has also played football and baseball. Garrett is a straight A and B student. His goals for the season are to swim as fast as he can, give his hardest effort, and to actually complete a kick set in practice.

Brandon Yuan Son of Kevin and Lee Yuan. Brandon is a two-year member of the swim team; he has also done tennis and track and 2 years of underwater basket weaving. Brandon’s academic achievements include Red Renaissance, math competitions, and being Asian. His goals for the season are to make it to state and win in power points.
