In my government’s quest to ensure that all youth are multi-skilled and talented and can excel at home and abroad, I welcome you all to participate in the 24th Goodwill Games 2018 to be hosted at the Aquatic Centre from the 17th August to the 19th August 2018.

This international swim meet will provide an opportunity for young athletes to showcase their developmental progress from learn-to-swim to competitive swimming and international com-petition permitting them to compete at all levels in the furtherance of their athletic goals and achievements.

Sports is primarily for recreational value focusing on health and social benefits. In such an en-vironment, bright and talented young people can be nurtured and encouraged to give of their best for their societies, their countries and themselves. They can pursue their dreams while at the same time making a living and supporting themselves by pursuing their love for sport and athleticism.

Sports will elevate youth as a central pillar in our national identities, social development and economic prosperity. Against the background, I welcome all participants and athletes and I urge keen competition camaraderie and sportsmanship.

I wish you the best of luck and enjoy the Goodwill Games.

Hon. John A. King, MPMinister of Creative Economy, Culture & Sports

The mandate of the Barbados Olympic Association is to promote sport at all levels, whether as an elite, developmental or recreational endeavour in the Olympic spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. It is therefore my pleasure, on behalf of the Olympic Movement in Barbados, to extend congratulations to the Barbados Amateur Swimming Association on the hosting of the Goodwill Swim Meet 2018.

The Goodwill Swim Meet is a developmental competition designed to introduce young Swimmers to international competition, while allowing other Juniors and Seniors the opportunity to compete and represent their country against Competitors from across the region. This therefore presents an important opportunity for many of our young Caribbean Swimmers to engage in keen and exciting competition over the coming weekend. It is my hope that the Meet will be defined by good sportsmanship, fair play and camaraderie, and will create lasting friendships among the young people of the region.

To all the Competitors, I wish you the very best and hope that you will participate in the true Olympic spirit and that many personal bests and records will be written on history’s page over the weekend. To the Coaches and Technical Officials, I salute you for your dedication to Swimming. While we recognize that sport is nothing without Athletes, indeed Athletes cannot realize their dreams without committed Coaches and Technical Officials such as yourselves.

With every good wish,

Yours in Sport,

Sandra Osborne, QCPresident, Barbados Olympic Association

Mr. Albert “Tony” SelbyPresident, Barbados Amateur Swimming Association

On behalf of The Barbados Amateur Swimming Association, I am delighted to welcome Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, The Bahamas, Saint Lucia, Grenada and Jamaica to Barbados and for Barbados to be your host for the XXIV Goodwill Swimming Championships, August 17-19, 2018.

We consider this swim meet to be very important for the development of the sport of swimming in our Region, as it provides an excellent bridge and opportunity for our young talented athletes to prepare and develop themselves to move onto higher level meets of CARIFTA and CCCAN. The annual Goodwill Swimming Championships is the only Regional swimming competition among Countries of the Caribbean at which athletes aged 8 & under and 9-10, are afforded the op-portunity to represent their country and exhibit their skills and talents in swimming. Other Age Group competitions between National Federations, such as Carifta, cater to athletes 11 years of age and older.

The other important aspect of this competition is the spirit of “goodwill” that is displayed among the participating countries and athletes, resulting in many long lasting friendships that will be created and developed among the participants.

I take this opportunity to invite all of our visiting teams and supporters to spend some time while in Barbados, to visit and enjoy various parts of the island and all that we have to offer.

We look forward to keen competition in the pool and wish everyone a most successful and en-joyable competition and stay in Barbados.

We also look forward to again welcoming you to Barbados and the Aquatic Centre for Carifta and CCCAN 2019.

Very best wishes,

Tony Selby President of the Barbados Amateur Swimming Association
