GREENSBORO NEWCOMERS CLUB October 27, 2016 General Meeting
October 27, 2016 – 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Weatherspoon Museum
University of North Carolina
500 Tate St, Greensboro, NC 27412 (336) 334-5770
Special Exhibit: “Art Decade by Decade, Art Acquired in its Time”
When Gregory Ivy founded the Weatherspoon in 1941, he wanted students attending Woman’s College
as well as the larger Greensboro community to have firsthand experience of the art of their time. He
achieved this vision in part through the exhibitions he organized, the instructors he hired, the workshops
and lectures he offered, and perhaps most importantly, the artworks he acquired for the Weatherspoon’s
burgeoning collection. Decade by Decade: Art Acquired in Its Time highlights select objects that entered
the collection shortly after the date of their creation. The objects included represent various
contemporary art movements from the museum’s founding to the present, and thus underscore the
museum’s enduring commitment to both emerging artists and to the art of its time.
The Museum needs ample advance notice to secure docents for the tour. Therefore,
please RSVP on or before October 4 to [email protected] if you are planning to attend.
Guests are welcome, so please include your first & last name and that of any guest(s) in the e-mail.
Please arrive 15 minutes early, by 9:45, so that the Weatherspoon can divide us into groups. There
is ample parking.
The general meeting will follow the tour.

CORRECTION It has come to our attention that a mistake was made in the September newsletter stating Cindy Williams Park is the daughter-in-law of Joanne Bruno. Although these two ladies are acquainted they are not related. We sincerely apologize for the error. Cindy’s new member information should have read as follows: Cindy Williams Park is a Travel Agent and a member of the Kernersville BNI. She was previously a member of Greensboro Newcomer's Club, as well as on the board. After a short absence and a major life change she has renewed her membership and is happy to be back within the group. She is on the bowling league and attends Girl's Night Out.
