Parc Borély: not to be missed Located near to the Prado beaches and the Corniche, Parc Borély is a pretty green setting that plays host, among other things, to a 18th century bastide house, a botanical garden and lake but especially big wide paths much appreciated by runners wishing to work on their cardio endurance.

Parc Pastré: for all levels Located in the south of the city, on the Chemin des Goudes, the Parc Pastré is also one of the gateways to walks in the local coves called Calanques. Between the sea, hills, immense gardens, streams, lakes and ponds, the park is a delight for runners. The flat or more sloping paths provide different levels of difficulty for an almost customised jog.

Corniche Kennedy: the most accessible This boulevard in Marseille runs along the Mediterranean coastline from the Plage des Catalans beach to the Plage du Prado beach. It offers a breath-taking view and is gradient-free. The outward and inward run totals 9 km, permitting a gentle and relaxed jog.

Luminy: for the fittest Located to the south of the city in the hills around the Calanques, the site of Luminy boasts many sloping paths, which is a godsend for runners who want a thorough cardio work-out. This vast area of rugged terrain boasts marked trails for circuits of between 1 and 3 hours.

Parc du 26e Centenaire: for long distances Located near to the Place Castellane in the city centre, it boasts a stunning setting and omnipresent greenery. Split into four themed gardens, runners choose this park for its peacefulness and its sensational views of Marseille and the Notre Dame de la Garde basilica

… to discover 6 essential venues… • Visit the MuCEM, the Museum of European and

Mediterranean Civilisations • Take a picnic on the Corniche and visit the small port of

Vallon des Auffres • Walk up to Notre Dame de la Garde • Learn how to cook bouillabaisse soup • Stroll around the Vieux-Port district • Wander through the narrow streets of the Le Panier district

The courses 100% Mediterranean courses

10 km

Avenue du Prado, in Place Castellane, is where it all begins. After a starting straight about 800 m long, competitors will make a right turn (still in Avenue du Prado) near Stade Vélodrome and head for the Mediterranean, leaving Parc Borély on their left.

The field will reach the one-third mark in Promenade Georges Pompidou (Plage du Prado) and will then run down La Corniche to the halfway point in Avenue du Président John Fitzgerald Kennedy, after which runners will go through Porte de l'Orient at km 7 and set course for Les Catalans. After a tour of almost the entire Old Port, the Run in Marseille 10 km will draw to a close opposite the City Hall.

Half marathon

The Run in Marseille half marathon will start opposite Marseille Cathedral, near MuCEM. The field will then head for the Tour CMA CGM via Boulevard du Littoral and Quai du Lazaret before turning round towards La Canebière.

A long straight over 3 km long will take runners through Rond-point Castellane and Rond-point du Prado, among other places. The field will then set for Avenue du Prado and get to Parc Borély. This green space, one of the most pleasant in Marseille, is also the halfway point of the race, which will then get back to the Mediterranean near Plage du Prado.

The final third of the race will be spectacular. The race will visit La Corniche and Les Catalans, two iconic spots on Marseille's coast. Six kilometres along the Mediterranean await the runners before the finish in the Old Port.

Marathon

The big new feature of the 2015 edition will be the start of the Run in Marseille Marathon in Les Goudes, right in the heart of Calanques National Park, a place packed with the flavour of Marseille and home to a little traditional port visited by hordes of tourists every year.

Competitors in the marathon will stay near Les Calanques until Pointe-Rouge, where the km 5 refreshment stand is located near L'Anse de la Vieille Chapelle.

They will then make a right turn down Avenue de Hambourg and Avenue de Clôt-Bey. From there, they will go to Stade Vélodrome and reach km 10 before following Avenue du Prado until Parc Borély. Plage du Prado will offer a new view of the sea. La Corniche will be the halfway point.

The second half of the course will take the field to La Canebière, Rond-point Castellane and Rond-point du Prado. The rolling, scenic course of the Run in Marseille marathon will go back to Parc Borély before a final lunge to the shores of the Mediterranean (Plage du Prado, La Corniche and Les Catalans). It all ends in the Old Port.

Interview with Richard Miron, Deputy of Sports of Marseille

What role does Run In Marseille play in the city’s calendar, in light of Marseille being designated “European capital of sport for 2017”?

Run In Marseille marks the start of the road racing season. With its three different distances (10k, half-marathon and marathon), it is one of the high points of the sporting season, a major event for sports in general and for running in particular. The 10,000 runners expected will be racing against themselves because during a road race, they are on their own against the clock.

Marseille is a sporting city renowned for its know-how in hosting international competitions. More than ever before, it is a breeding ground for sporting talents that witnesses the development of many champions in a wide range of disciplines, from swimming to football and cycling to sailing.

What is the economic impact of “Run In Marseille” for the city and the region?

A third of the 7,000 runners last year came from outside the Bouches du Rhône area. Half were accompanied by family members and around one hundred of them came from foreign countries. This unquestionably generates business for our restaurants, hotels and all the city’s shops.

What message could the people of Marseille pass on to the participants in “Run In Marseille”?

Marseille’s population of 860,000 are always very proud and happy to unveil the beauty of their city. Founded by the sea 2,600 years ago, it is still a place that is open to the rest of the world, in our view. I am delighted that “Run In Marseille” will be passing along the coast, allowing everyone to enjoy a wonderful setting. Indeed, each of the routes includes a long promenade from the Plage du Prado beach via the Corniche before reaching the Vieux-Port. The most picturesque postcard views of the route include the Notre Dame de la Garde basilica, the Stade Vélodrome football ground and the small traditional port at Les Goudes, among others...

I am sure that each competitor will be enchanted by the beauty and friendliness of Marseille!

Interview with PUMA PUMA is the major sponsor of both Run in Marseille and Run in Lyon. What is the rationale behind your brand's presence in these two events?

PUMA has made a massive investment in running over the last few years, particularly by becoming an official sponsor of Run in Marseille and Run in Lyon.

These races are major events in the French sports calendar and fit in with our ethos: an expert but affordable approach to running. PUMA is very proud of being the official sponsor of these two pivotal events.

During the upcoming event, PUMA will be in the Village on Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19, to show visitors its new Spring-Summer collection, but especially SPEED, a brand-new range of running shoes that uses PUMA's latest technological breakthroughs. Brand specialists will be on duty to provide tips on the latest products to hit the market and share some important pointers.

Beginners often wonder what model of running shoes best fits their morphology. What advice can you offer?

Every runner, newbies and veterans alike, has different needs. The biomechanical requirements of this sport make these needs very specific. Performance is important, but so are comfort and protection. We obviously listen to the feedback of our runners and meet their expectations with new technical products.

Specifically in the case of running, we offer comprehensive ranges spanning footwear, clothing and accessories to fulfil all the needs of a runner. The idea is to help them unleash their full sporting potential.

Are you surprised by the mounting craze around running?

It is true that running attracts more and more people every year. The main reason is that sport is fun, but also that running is a democratic sport —cheap and, therefore, accessible to wide swathes of the population. Runners "professionalise" their approach and want to measure their progression. PUMA is very proud of being Run in Marseille's official sponsor for the third year straight.
