Business Women Scotland (BWS) is back for a 6th year to mark the achievements of the growing numbers of women-led businesses. The Business Awards will celebrate the entrepreneurial talents of women across Scotland – and help to create more business role models to inspire the next generation of leading women. This year we are awarding women not only running their own business but also recognising women work in larger organisations Scotland.

Business Women Scotland has a fantastic group of influential women on this years judging panel, bringing a wealth of knowledge and understanding of business. Join us for our exciting BWS Virtual Awards 2020 online. It all starts online at 11.15am with our MC Rachel McTavish for optional virtual networking. The main awards begin at noon - join us with Rachel and enjoy the glass of fizz from your awards party box.

The awards are a celebration of women making their mark and their way in the world of business this year. Together, we will recognise the notable contribution women are making to boost Scotland’s economy and continue to develop a diverse and thriving world-class business ecosystem.

Our MC for the first virtual awards is journalist and broadcaster Rachel McTavish. In the last 15 years Rachel has worked for ITV, BBC, FIVE, GMTV, STV, ITV London and can be seen reading the news on STV.

WHO IS INVOLVED IN THE AWARDS?

The awards in 2019 received a 200 per cent year on year increase in entries across 14 categories giving the judging panel the difficult task of determining 49 finalists.

The BWS Awards are hosted by Scotland’s leading female business organisation, dedicated to helping women find support and networking opportunities to allow them to strengthen their business. The awards celebrate the continuing achievements and vital economic contribution made by Scottish women in business.

Year on year, the female business community plays an increasingly important role in supporting the country’s economy, and with these awards we aim to both highlight and celebrate the value of the talented women who are successfully blazing the trail in practically every sector of the Scottish economy. Research consistently shows that visible role models are a key driver in encouraging women to start and grow their own businesses.

These awards provide the perfect platform for women across all sectors and from throughout Scotland to showcase the vital contribution they are making to Scotland’s thriving business ecosystem. We need more women to step forward and help us close the persistent gender gap in enterprise, with just 20 per cent of SMEs in Scotland currently being majority owned and led by women. WHY SHOULD I GET INVOLVED AND WHY IT’S IMPORTANT FOR MY BUSINESS? We asked our award winner from 2019 why it is important for business women to enter the awards.

As Managing Director of Little’s Chauffeur Drive, it was a great honour to be awarded both Established Business of the Year and Businesswoman of the Year at the BWS Awards in 2019. My award wins were made all the more special (and emotional) as my father, who established the company in 1966, was present to witness the achievement.

The press and social media coverage surrounding the event is great; Little’s won a total of eight awards during 2019 and I have to say that the quality and longevity of the press and opportunities arising from the BWS awards was the best. The awards ceremony was intimate, well organised and offered the opportunity for businesswomen at the top of their game – no matter the size of their business – to be recognised and celebrated.
