BRAY AIR DISPLAYJULY 28 - 29 2018

IRELAND’S BIGGEST AEROBATIC FESTIVAL

The 13th annual Bray Air Display will take place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July 2018. One of Europe’s biggest and best air shows, Bray Air Display attracted 140,000 people to the Co. Wicklow coastal town for the two day event last year.

Bray Air Display was recognised as ‘Best Festival / Event Experience over 50,000 people’ at the prestigious, national Irish Tourism Industry Awards 2017 and in 2018 it won silver in the ‘Best Tourism Initiative’ category at the All-Ireland Community and Council Awards.

It’s going to be a thrilling spectacle. So far this year’s line-up includes over 40 aircraft as well as parachute teams and helicopters. The calibre of the aerobatic displays at Bray is really second to none; the Red Arrows make a welcome return as our headline act this year.

As well as the incredible display in the skies over Bray the event includes a food and craft village featuring artisan food and specialist craft stalls as well as musical entertainment, and a family fun fair.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy what will be a wonderful free event for young and old alike. See you all in Bray this July!

Aircraft line-up, air display, all ground events and activities are subject to change without notice and may be dependent on weather.

#AVIATIONIRELAND BRAYAIRDISPLAY.COM

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is the main supporter of the Bray Air Display which is part of the Aviation Ireland #AviationIreland campaign to promote aviation across the State.

The IAA also supports the Foynes Air Show which will take place on Saturday 28th July in Foynes, Co. Limerick.

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) aims to promote the Irish Aviation industry by supporting the Aviation Ireland #AviationIreland weekend, highlighting Ireland’s position as a true global aviation hub, as a nation of aviators and innovators.

The global aviation industry is set to double over the next 20 years from 3.5 billion passengers to 7 billion passengers by 2036.

The world’s aircraft fleet is set to double from 23,000 today to 46,000 in the same timescale. Ireland has tremendous opportunities to capitalise on this global expansion and more, as airlines and airports require more pilots, aircraft engineers, cabin crew, lessors, air traffic controllers and airport professionals.

As early pioneers of transatlantic flight, home to the world’s first duty-free, and where aircraft leasing began, Ireland has always been to the forefront in aviation innovation.

Both Aer Lingus, an iconic international airline, and Ryanair, one of the world’s largest airlines, originated in Ireland. As well as Ryanair and Aer Lingus, there are a total of 14 airlines registered in Ireland, including Norwegian Air International, ASL, CityJet and Stobart Air. There are 1,400 aircraft on the Irish register, including over 200 aircraft under foreign lease.

There are 24 Airports and Aerodromes in Ireland including 3 State Airports; Dublin, Cork and Shannon. A record-breaking 29.6 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in 2017 and it is now the 5th best-serving airport in Europe to North America.

From an economic standpoint, aviation contributes over €4 billion to Ireland’s economy, with 40,000 people employed in the sector, including; 9,500 licensed pilots, and 11,000 licensed cabin crew.

The aviation industry in Ireland has a bright and prosperous future ahead. This Aviation Ireland weekend will celebrate the dizzying heights aviation has already reached, and new heights it continues to climb for.

The IAA is a commercial semi-state company employing approximately 670 people at six main locations in Ireland. The organisation promotes and regulates the safety of aviation in Ireland.

The IAA is committed to developing and implementing effective strategies, regulatory frameworks and processes to ensure that aviation activities under our oversight achieve the highest practicable level of safety.

The IAA is also responsible for the provision of Air Traffic Management (ATM) in Irish controlled airspace (covering some 451,000 square km) and State airports, aeronautical communications on the North Atlantic, and the security regulation of the civil aviation industry in Ireland.

“The IAA has a long history of supporting aviation activities that help promote the aviation industry so we are very happy to support the #AviationIreland weekend.”

Peter Kearney, Chief Executive Designate of the Irish Aviation Authority

RED ARROWS TO HEADLINE THE 2018 BRAY AIR DISPLAY!

The Red Arrows – the crème de la crème of aerobatic display teams - will headline the Bray Air Display on Sunday 29th July.

The team first jetted into Bray in their distinctive red livery for the 2016 event and wowed the crowds with pin point precision moves and graceful manoeuvres.

Anyone unlucky enough to miss their performance two years ago will have a second chance to marvel at these master craftsmen this July.

Representing the speed, agility and precision of the Royal Air Force, the team is the public face of the RAF service.

Flying distinctive Hawk fast-jets, the team is made up of pilots, engineers and essential support staff. Together, they demonstrate the excellence and capabilities of the Royal Air Force and the Service’s skilled, talented people.

Since flying the first time in 1965, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team has performed almost 4,900 times across the globe. The Red Arrows are lucky to have both a wonderful history and the support and interest of millions of well-wishers.

The Red Arrows’ 54th season is also the Royal Air Force’s centenary year.

The Red Arrows are one of the most famous and accomplished aerobatic display teams in the

world, and I’m sure will ignite the imagination of a new generation of aviation enthusiasts.

Sé Pardy, Bray Air Display Director
