Evaluation This is the Evaluation for my A2 media product. Below I will be investigating into what can be improved, what was successful and what was unsuccessful and how I achieved my goals in my media project. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? I feel that my media product follow the conventions of a real media product in many different ways I will explain how it follow the conventions. My music video follows the conventions of a typical music building in the sense that it has a story/ narrative because when my singer is singing a story about a man learning a life lesson through different circumstances happening to him while he goes through his daily life this includes meet a prostitute, being mugged and watching the news which in the end he learns something about people while he is singing the scenes of the story are playing out around him while he is singing. The musician is actually miming the song while he is performing the music video and is acting accordingly to the theme of the song because the song is upbeat the actor is being over the top and happy which is what I wanted and is what you seen in most upbeat songs. Time is a feature in most music video so I featured filming at different times of the day for when he has returned home I have a shot of a clock to show the time In one shot I include a flashback to the scenes with the prostitute and the mugger but this time they are distorted and are going back in time I did this to show that the singer has been thinking about what he has learnt from these two people because the meaning behind the song is that there is no rest for the wicked people have bill to pay and mouths to feed so they have to do things that they wish they did not want too in a few songs there are deeper meaning behind the music this is what I wanted to achieve.

Evaluation

This is the Evaluation for my A2 media product.

For the most part I followed the standard conventions for camera angles and cinematography. I used close ups, mid shots, establishing shots and panning shots and I sometimes placed the camera to look down at my performer. To show in some situations like the mugging he seems weaker. I thought these shots made my music video look professionally made and adds different perspectives on the situation at hand. As for the editing aspect of my music video I had used precision editing to sync the music with the speaking and I used a few transitions while making my music video I did this because it helped keep the music in line with the video although they sacrifice some of the realism of the music video. But the only the technology I really used was I movie which I did all my editing on I did not use CGI or a green screen in my filming I did it all on location with a camera. As for props I used a toy gun for the mugger and a remote controller for the scene that required a TV. As for costume clothes they had to reflect who they are but were all fine, the mugger he needed a hood to mask his face I was glad the costumes were all fine

because it is important that they look the part for the music video it makes it seem like a more realistic music video

As for the setting of my music video I set it in locations that were fit for areas in the song, such as a corner, an alley and a house. I found appropriate places that fit these descriptions which were also very close to where I live. I decided it was best to use the places that the song describes or it would seem out of place in the music video.

For my Subsidiary products I followed a standard convention for a digi pack and magazines add. My digi pack contains a front cover and back cover, list of songs on the disk, a about the singer page and a thank you to the people who have supported him with different photos on each page of the digi pack. As for the magazine advert it contains a cover of the album and basic information on its release date, since it just a magazine add too much information would be pointless people would just want to know when and where they could get it.

I feel like I have used the conventions of a music video well and have used techniques that would be used in a normal music video but I feel like I have not done anything truly amazing with the convention of a music video.

How affective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I feel that my main product and subsidiary products work well together, both my digi pack and my magazine add share the same front cover this allows the audience to easily recognise that that is the album they are looking for. I have backed this up by also using the front cover if the digi pack, the magazines add and the music video all feature Dan in it and this will attract people’s attention because they will know what the main singer looks like and can find him. These combined reason make my products combined well it makes the products easy to find for the audience.

What I have learnt from the audience’s feedback

The feedback I got from the audience was mostly positive and had a lot of feedback that seemed to prove useful which will help me to improve my music video. I asked what improvements could be made, the answer was the music could be louder and someone had said that some of my camera shots look amateur however when I asked if anything seemed out of place in my music video the audience said it blended well and there were no problems. At one point In my original

piece I had a problem with casting and as a result I had to re-film my piece all over again with different actors my worry was that they would not prove substantial but my fears were not met the audience said the characters were perfect which lead me to believe that they were better than the one originally casted. Due to my song being story based I asked the audience of the if the actions of the actors suited with the words of the music they said yes the story line was very good and reflected well however I wanted to make sure that the music video look professional most people said it did although apparently some of the transitions make it look not professionally made so I should probably change them and as a final check to see if it was like a actual music video I asked if it followed the codes and conventions of a music video, the feedback I got back was all positive on that matter. To get a better understanding of what I did well I asked the audience what was their favourite part of the music video they said the chorus worked welt and the camera was good for the chorus this shows me what I did well at in my project. However I also asked the audience what they did not like and they answered with the transitions and the camera angles which I found a bit contradicting because they said the angles were good in the chorus.

Overall I ‘am satisfied with the audiences view on my music video although there are areas that need to be improved on as with any project I am glad they got the story line and they enjoyed the video. The feedback has given me a lot of information on what I must do in the future to improve my projects.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I researched many different sources that would give me a vague idea on how to plan and make my project as a result I had looked at different secondary sources to help me on the road to creating my project. To give me inspiration to create my music video I had looked at many other music videos on YouTube which is an easy place to find them. I researched more in depth to Gangnam style by

PSY and invaders must die by prodigy, I chose these two because at the time Gangnam style was extremely popular at the time and I wanted to see why so I chose to research into its music video. Although the music video was obscure and out of the ordinary it showed be some of the conventions of make a music video and gave me guide lines in what I

should try to attempt when I make my music video due to Gangnam styles way in which it was made-fast upbeat which is what I was looking for. As for invaders must die it has some story element around it in which a man is going around trying to leaves signs of warning of invading aliens although this is story telling at its basic it gave

me a concept on how to show the story in my music video due to my song being heavily story based.

As for my subsidiary products I found inspiration for them very easily I looked for magazine ads on Google I found some very useful ones in helping me make my magazine add. The one I took inspiration from was a magazine advert for kings of Leon which showed me all the key information to include in my advert, as for my digi pack I brought inspiration from one of the CD’s in my collection. The one I picked was queen and after looking through the digi pack it showed me what to include and how to set up the layout I found both of these sources extremely useful.

In conclusion I feel that I have achieved my goals in making my main product and my subsidiary and I know now what I must do to improve my work in the future.
