Artisans of Barossa
Artisans of Barossa is a group of like-minded producers with a common goal to
protect and promote small batch, sub-regional winemaking.
We are six individual wineries, with different winemaking styles representing
the breadth and diversity of our home - the Barossa Valley.
What binds us together is a commitment to making inspirational wines that
uphold the culture and traditions of the Barossa.
We will make products that excite, inspire and delight our customers and each
other. Above all we must maintain a sense of pride and fun in everything we do.
Wine is our life, life is our passion.
Located on the outskirts of Tanunda with sweeping views over the Barossa
Valley, the Artisans of Barossa Tasting Room is home to six small producers.

Hobbs of Barossa Ranges
John Duval Wines
Massena
The Hobbs name is relativey new to the Australian wine landscape. Greg and
Allison Hobbs' postage-stamp sized vineyard in the upper reaches of the
Barossa Ranges is anything but, with Shiraz vines dating back to 1905. In
1998 30 dozen bottles of "house wine" was made for the family and Hobbs of
Barossa Ranges was born. Greg and Allison collaborate with winemakers
Pete Schell and Chris Ringland to create their wines, spearheaded by a
powerful trio of old vine Barossa Shiraz. "Out philosophy is to nurture rather
than interfere with nature. Even in bad years, this block produces good fruit.
Maybe it is simply being stubborn in old age, refusing to bend to the whims of
nature".
John Duval is one of the world's best known winemakers and comes from a
family that boasts four generations of South Australian vignerons. In 2003,
after 28 years with Penfolds, including 16 years as Chief Winemaker, John
developed his own label. Utilising old vine Barossa fruit, John has created five
stunning wines within his range. You will find his wines reflect the terroir of
the Barossa and the handcrafted attention of all things 'John Duval'. This year
John Duval Wines reflect on the development and successes of the family
winery as they enter their second decade, together with John's continuing
involvement in his two joint venture projects in Chile and Washington State.
Massena started as an inquisitive venture between friends, entrenched in
the enjoyment of the physical process of making wine and transferring this
into drinking the finished product. We began in the 2000 harvest, with our
roots steeped in Barossa history, but with a vision for creating a new
viticultural heritage. Without a set plan, our thirst for knowledge and
unbridled enthusiasm became the driving force behind the Massena wine
style. Based on drinkability and conviviality, Massena wines are 'lifestyle'
wines, they are made with a view that each wine has a context. With food,
with friends, for no reason whatsoever, they are there to be enjoyed.

Schwarz Wine Co
Sons of Eden
Spinifex
Jason Schwarz's wines taste of the vineyards where the grapes are grown. And
he;s got a good eye for finding great vineyards...both Jason's father and
grandfather were state pruning champions, he grew up among the vines on the
family property at Bethany and he's worked along side some of the Barossa's
best known grape growers and winemakers. A shed-load of experience has
taught him that once you find great fruit you look after it with a light touch. "I
like the fruit to speak for itself", Jason says.
Sons of Eden has taken its name from the two partners, Corey Ryan and Simon
Cowham, who both learnt their crafts over the years in the vineyards and cellars
of the Eden Valley. Their passion is dedicated to crafting wines of unquestionable
quality from the grapes of some of the Barossa's most treasured vineyards. After
carefully selecting sites Sons of Eden is able to take full control of the process
from teh vineyard to the bottle, resulting in wines with a sense of individualtiy
and provenance.
With family roots and extensive wine making experience in the South of
France, there is a strong French connection which droves the style and feel of
Spinifex. Started in 2001 by Peter Schell and Magali Gely, Spinifex sources
grapes from some of the oldest Barossa and Eden Valley vineyards planted to
the classic Mediterranean varieties (Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Cinsault,
Carignan and Ugni Blanc) that have been successfully grown in the Barossa for
over 150 years. With a winemaking philosophy that embraces sustainable
vineyard practices an minimal intervention in the winery, there is a strong
focus n producing wines where balance, purity of fruit and restraint is the key.
Such an approach delivers wines with a strong sense of integrity, personality,
regional character and style.
