  1. 1. Media Evaluation By Faith Savory
  2. 2. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of a real media products? My magazine uses similar codes and conventions to real music magazines that are published in the UK today. The typical codes and conventions you would see in a magazine are page numbers, bardcode, masthead, pull quotes, fonts, writing style, colour schemes, photography styles etc. Throughout I have used a range of these codes and conventions, this has helped me to make my magazine looks more official and like an actual music magazine that would be seen in shops today.
  3. 3. Masthead Like all of the other magazines I have researched, they all had a masthead of their brand name. So it was very important that I put a brand name on my magazine, whilst researching I found that all mastheads went at the top of this front cover so that it was visible in shops, so I placed mine in the same space. I chose to use red as my main font colour because it was the most gender neutral colour out of the colours I had chosen for my style sheet. I followed the normal conventions of any typical music magazine, this is a very important convention and is hard to deviate from without making your magazine looks unofficial Coverlines out of the magazines that I researched, I preferred the way coverlines looked when they had a background on them causing them to standing out more. My coverlines were also in a bold font so that you could see them but they didn't take over the whole page, using a san-serif font also made it easier to read, I used san-serif fonts throughout my whole magazine because it gave it more informal and younger look, to appeal to my target audience. Buzzwords I used a few buzzwords throughout my cover to attract people, this is a typical convention that if found more on front covers than inside the actual magazine, the buzzwords I used were 'WIN!' 'FREE' and 'Exclusive', I didn't go against this convention instead used it in the same was as nearly every music magazine uses it, in a positive way to attract a positive attention to their magazine. FRONT COVER
  4. 4. Barcode out of the magazines I researched all of the barcodes were usually at the bottom of the front cover or on the back of the magazine, but I chose put mine on the front so then it looked more like a magazine rather than a poster which is something that I was worried about whilst creating my magazine. I don't think I challenged this convention in anyway because every magazine needs a barcode whether it was one the front or the back, also I kept it to the bottom of the cover which is where barcodes typically ended up being. CONTENTS PAGE Buzzword I used buzzwords again in my contents page to attract attention to competition I had included in my magazine. When I researched magazines like Kerrang! And NME they didn't really use buzzwords to advertise themselves in their contents page, but I wanted to ass different ways of saying what was on each page as well as the divided list on the edge. So I developed this convention by advertising the competition within the magazine rather than advertising a different brand, or brand subscription etc. Fonts I used the same fonts as the fonts for my cover lines throughout my contents page because of how easy it was to read, which is what all of the magazines I researched aimed for, a clear, easy to navigate and read contents page. There was a convention that went through all of the magazines I researched and their contents pages which was organisation so I wanted it to be simple but also have information so I kept the fonts san-serif to do this. Also by having the text written in black it was a standard colour that no one would get confused so this made it even easier to read, I didn't challenge or develop this convention but used it in the same way as other magazines.
  5. 5. Masthead - For my contents page, I used the same font and colour that I used on my front cover, when I researched differen't magazines they did the same thing, however sometimes changing the colour. The masthead would also be at the top of the page, so that is where I decided to put mine, I didn't go against this convention and instead used it so that my magazine looked offical just like the magazines that I have researched. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD Pullquote I looked at magazines such as Kerrang! And MOJO in my research, both of them used pullquotes in their double page spread, however MOJO just had plain text with no background on it to attract, it was simple text in just black and white as well, which didn't really suit my magazine so I used the way Kerrang! Displayedtheir pullquotes since they have a similar target audience to me. This is by having either very bright and bold text with our without a background shape, here I chose to use a background shape because it highligted the text more and I thought this convention connoted more of a fun feel to the magazine. Photography Style in the magazines that I researched I found that on double page spreads there were often medium shots or medium close- ups used, rarely ever any long shots or close-ups/extreme close-ups used so I decided to also use this idea and have a medium shot for my double page spread. In all of the magazines that I researched I found that the doublepage spread was dominated by a large image of the artist that was being interviewed so I used this conevtion as well to create my double page spread.
  6. 6. Layout When I reasearched all of my magazines I found that they were all set out similar to a newspaper, however it was much more colourful and attractive. I used this convention, looking at Kerrang! I found that they used a lot of backing through their magainze, this just makes the articles more pleasing to the eye. I also found that in all of the magazines I researched they used bold text and normal text to spilt up the interview questions and the artists answers, I decided to also use this convention. By putting the red backgrond, it kept the colour scheme running throughout my magazine, having white text also made it easier to read. I haven't really developed this convention much, it similar to the way other magazines use their layout. Masthead for this masthead I decided to not use the masthead font I had used on my front cover and my contents page, this was because it didn't really fit into the artcile. However neither NME and Kerrang! used their front cover masthead on their interviews, it was only MOJO that did. I went against the conventions of MOJO because that doesn't have the same target audience as me, where as NME and Kerrang! have a much similar audience. I did however use the two colours that I have used throughout my magazine to tie my doublepage spread into the rest of my magazine, NME didn't do this but Kerrang! do use the same colours they used on their front cover in thair double page spreads, so I followed the conventions of Kerrang! more.
  7. 7. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The genre that I chose for my magazine was rock/rock-sub genres such as pop punk, metal, heavy metal etc. There are a lot of males in this genre, however there are also some women in this genre and the number of women continues to grow. So I have featured women throughout my final piece. I have also used females as my models through my magazine because I was unable to get any male people to model for me, so that restricted the amount of gender I could show in my final piece. Since I found that my audience was a 50/50 split on gender, I thought it wouldn't matter too much if I used either male or females since having both genders would appeal to each gender in a different way for example, having a female on the front cover created the 'male gaze' which would attract males to my magazine. Then also by having a woman on the front of a rock magazine it may seem empowering to the teenage girls in my audience, creating a feminist point of view and wanting to achieve just like the femals on the magainze have. Even though I didn't have male models, I used some stereotypical 'male' things in my photos so help get across that more boyish feeling. Using a model who had short hair, which is typically seen as a boy thing, showed the male gender whilst also having girly things such as the purple colour, the eyemake-up, jewelry. Then even with my front cover model I had her stand in a 'boyish' pose even though she is very clearly a female this still gave off the idea of male behaviour. Using these male stances also helped to represent gender in my genre because a lot fot he women in this genre aren't 'lady like' even though they may dress in a feminine way sometimes they don't act like it when they are on stage, interviews etc. GENDER
  8. 8. AGE My magazines features teenagers, however this isn't quite accurate to my genre style. My genre features people from 20s+, which was hard to create since I couldn't get any models of this age range. However I attempted to make my models look older with the type of clothes they wore, more simple and mature clothing. Using teenagers in my magazine reflects my audience because my target audience are teenagers, which is what I have used. The type of teenagers may have been able to be represented better, with the purple haired girl it showed a more alternative style so that appeals more to my target audience however the blonde haired girl had more of that moody look that I needed for my magazine so even if she may not have been completely alternative it was made up for in the personality of the picture. Typically teenagers are seen as 'naughty' 'rebellious' and more negative stereotypes, I think in some way I showed these negative denotations however also the positive connetations of teenagers, the fun and playful ways of teenagers by having the model smiling slightly on the frontcover, showing teens can be mischevious but also friendly.
  9. 9. CLASS In my magazine I don't think there is a specific class shown, there aren't any indications on whether the people featured in my magazine are working class or middle class. I think because of how I portrayed class it makes my magazine appeal to both ABC1 and C2DE audiences. I would say that both social classes feature in my magazine if there isn't a distinctive line between who is lower class and upper class in my magazine. My audience is ages 13-17 so it is hard to say what classes my target audience is made up from, the genre of music I have chosen however is usually more associated with working class teenagers, so I would have to guess that my target audience is mostlly dominated by working class teenagers but also has a proportion of middle class teenagers in my readers. Working class are stereotypically seen as 'trouble', where are the middle class are usually seen as 'mature' and 'well behaved' I think I have portrayed the idea of 'trouble' more by the stances that I have made my main model stand in, so slightly portaying the stereotype of the working class in my magazine.
  10. 10. ETHNICITY In my final magazine, I haven't displayed my ethinicity. Looking at the bands and artist in my genre the majority is dominated by white american or white british people so therefore it would be out of place to have someone of afro-carribean or asain race in my magazine since it wouldn't represent the genre properly. Since I have only featured white british, it means that my magazine is monocultural and doesn't display a wide range of ethnicity which may become a problem and not reach out to teenagers who are part of an ethnic miniortiy and listen to the genre of music that my magazine features. In my magazine I would say that they are all prositive representations of white british, I haven't used stereotypes to represent this ethnic group because this is an alternative magazine so using typical stereotypes wouldn't suit my magazine and music genre. Kerrang! White american band All Time Low featured Kerrang! White british band Bring Me The Horizon featured
  11. 11. USES AND GRATIFICATIONS McQuail came up with the idea of the Uses and Gratifications theory, this is basically what we get out of using the media, coming up with four main asepcts that we use the media for: Entertainment Identiy Information Relationships(Intergration and social interaction) My audience are male and female, white british, primarialy working class but also middle class, teenagers Teenagers use the media for all four of these features. Entertainment Magazines help to entertain teenagers, but letting them occupy their time with something that they are interested in. Identiy Music forms teenagers identiy, so by buying a music magazine that specifies in their favouirte music genre, this thelps them to build up their own identiy. They can say that it is their favourite music magazine, which becomes part of them as a person. Information Music magazines help teenagers to get information about their favourite bands and artists, new albums, tours, festivals etc. so they don't miss out on anything, keeping them connected with the music community. Relationships By buying a music magazine regulary this creates a social topic among peer groups, it allows them to start conversation about news about their favouirte bands and artists with their friends, creating a stronger bond.
  12. 12. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? Institutions are corpirations that publish, market and produce the media. In the UK we have a large range of instituations that create a variety of media products, for example, the BBC create TV shows, radio shows and also publish magazines. Time Inc. that publish NME, Womans Weekly, Country homes etc. Future Media, that publish Classic Rock magazine and Metal Hammer. Bauer that publish well loved magazines Kerrang!, MOJO, Q and more! These institutions allow us to have access to our favouirte magazines, TV shows, radio shows and more at all times of the day all year round. Out of the wide range of institutions that we have here in the UK, the main ones that I would want to publish my media brand would either be Bauer or Future Media, these two brands have more music magazines that would appeal to my target audience than Time Inc. or the BBC. When I did research into my audience I found that some of the most popular magazines were Q, MOJO and Kerrang! which are all published by Bauer Media.
  13. 13. When I researched, I found that my audience had Kerrang! As a popular choice in music magazine, since my music magazine is similar to Kerrang! But is published monthly rather than weekly I would want my magazine to be published by Bauer Media. I looked at what they already published and I found that they also publish MOJO which is published monthly, however, MOJO reaches out to a completey different audience than my magazine and it would be published at a completely different time in the month so it wouldn't clash. Here is what else Bauer publish: (Taken from http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/) Bauer publish a wide range, going rom fashion magazine to bird watching magazines. They also have a large collection of music magazines/radios they publish, Kerrang! Planet Rock, 4Music, Q, Mojo and more!
  14. 14. Since my genre isn't a very indie genre, I think it would be better to go for a big publishing brand like Bauer because they are more likey to want to publish my magazine. If I went with a smaller insituation my magazine may not get out there to my target audience, so it may not be the best way to go for my magazine. Bauer already publish magazines that I have looked at like Kerrang! and MOJO, so I would have to compete with these magazines but since MOJO has a different target audience to my magazine that won't be music of a problem. Kerrang! is the only main magazine that has the same target audience as me, however Kerrang! is published every Wednesday on a weekly basis and my magazine is published monthly on the second Friday of each month. I think having my magazine being published by an instituation that publishes a similar magazine will have it's negatives and it's positives. The positives would be that they know how to promote this type of magazine so it would get a lot of positive exposure, however the negative would be that my magazine would have to compete with such a loved magazine like Kerrang!. Which could be a problem but also a positive because if people see a magazine being published by Bauer that is similar to Kerrang! Then they will want to read and see what kind of things it offers. Bauer reaches 22 millon adults across the UK each week, that is nearly 1/3 of the country's adult population everyweek which is a very large amount of the population so my magazine would reach the right audience and would be seen by enough of the general public to make money. These are the latest ABC figures for some of Bauer's music magazines:
  15. 15. I could also uses Bauer to branch out my media platforms, for example Bauer publishes Kerrang! And they have a radio station, website, social media, tour, are the offical sponsors of Download festival so I could use Bauer to get similar exposure and collect a large following of my magazine. If I had Soundnote Tour, Soundnote Radio, sponsored a festival etc, it would attract more audiences because a tour would put my audiences favourite artists on, causing the readers of my maagzine to attend this tour effectively creating more money. A radio station allows me to advertise not only my own brand, but have adverts which advertise other popular brands within my targer audience like DropDead clothing, Doc Martins, Coca-cola etc. Kerrang! also have their own award show which is seen as one of the most important award shows in rock music today. I could take my brand much further than a magazine today, with the circulation Bauer and it's current rock magazines there would be enough circulation to get a popular TV channel, Radio Show and be able to sponsour favouirte festivals in the UK like Reading and Leeds.
  16. 16. 4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
  17. 17. I did a lot of audience research, using questionnaires and interviews. My survey was about what people would want from a music magazine that was based around the rock genre, but it also helped me to learn more about my target audience since the questionnaire was directed towards people who listened to rock music and sub-genres of rock. I found that my target audience were mainly between the ages 13-17. I also found out a few of the favourite bands that were mentioned by the people who did my survey, adding these to my reader profile/bands similar to them such as Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, AC/DC etc. this helped me to research what kinds of things people who like these bands are into finding clothing brands they may typically wear like DropDead and Converse. I found that my target audience are usually alternative people, enjoying the punk and rock scenes, they enjoyed reading magazines such as Kerrang! And attending festivals like Leeds and Download.
  18. 18. After my survey I found that the split between gender in my target audience was an equal split this made it much easier for me to create my magazine because I didn't have to make it exclusively gender specific to appeal to that one certain gender. It was a gender neutral magazine that appealed to both genders, a lot of teenagers may also be struggling with their identity gender wise as well, so by having a gender neutral magazine it opens a window for my magazine to appeal to people who classify themselves as no specific gender or a different gender from their biological sex. I researched into typical rock bands of today and found that they are mostly male dominated, so that is why I chose to put my reader profile as a boy, even though there is a large growing female community in rock music which shows from the 50/50 gender split.
  19. 19. 5. How did you attract your audience? When I asked certain questions in my online questionnaire I could responses about what my target audience would like to see in my final magazine, these questions were about colours and free items that my magazine may include. My target audience chose the colours that I used throughout my magazine, I used blue and red mainly because they were the colours that had the most responses as well as white and black, which I also used however I didn't want to just use monotone colours because my audience had also identified Kerrang! As one of their favourite magazines and they don't use monotone colours as their main schemes. I also wanted to use colour because colour attracts a younger audience, so it appeals to my target audience.
  20. 20. This is my style sheet,I took what I had found out from my audience research and took all of the most popular colours to fit in with what my target audience wanted from my magazine. I used these as my base colours, however if I was going to be making more than one of my magazines the header and cover lines would change colour to fit the style of the band or artist that featured in my magazine. I used different shades of blue and red throughout my final magazine, not just these lighter and darker colours. This was to keep a variety of colour even though I was only using two basic colours. I asked what my audiences favourite UK music magazines where, I found that Kerrang!, Q and MOJO were the favourites among my audience. However, I didn't do any research into Q Msagazine, and MOJO had a much elder target audience so I didn't want to base much of my final magazine on MOJO. I hadn't done any research into Q so I didn't think it was a good idea to base my magazine of something that I haven't researched into. Kerrang! however has the same target audience as me and it was one of the most popular options so I have taken this into account and used some of the elements that Kerrang! uses in my final magazine to attract the right target audience.
  21. 21. These are my final pieces, I kept the colours that I had chosen on my style sheet running throughout my whole magazine, whilst adding a couple of other colours so that my magazine wasn't domniated by just two colours. Since I was taking some of the elements of Kerrang! and using them in my final pieces to attract my younger audience. I used their style of certain aspects of Kerrang! to attract my audience such as pullquotes, coverlines, layout etc. this was because of the target audience that my magazine shared with Kerrang!
  22. 22. SOUNDNOTE KERRANG! Kerrang! use bright colours and bold fonts to make their pull quotes visible, even though I haven't used such a tall font I still used the bright colours for a background colour and a bold font just like Kerrang! do. Kerrang! use coloums like a newspaper, so I took this idea and made my layout similar to theirs so that my audience didn't get confused and it was easy for them to figure out, this would attract my audience and if the magazine was easy to read it would give the reader information they wanted so therefore them being willing to pay for my magazine. I chose to make my coverlines similar to Kerrang! this would be so that the readers would see something that they noticed yet was new to them, it also was an easy was of organising the information on my front cover so that the front cover wouldn't become too busy and put people off.
  23. 23. I think that I addressed my audience in an informal way when it came to writing. I used an informal interview in my double page spread to keep a friendly tone throughout my magazine so it appealed to my young audience. I mentioned festivals such as Download and Leeds which are festivals that the younger audience would know. I also mentioned bands like 'Neck Deep' that my audience would know. I also used words like 'awesome' and 'shows' which is that teenagers would say, so it connects more with my readers. I used teenagers so that it would address my audience better, also I used clothes that typical teenagers who my magazined is aimed at would wear, which is seen here with the guitar shirt. I took my photos in a studio where the photos were in a formal setting but the photos turned out a little more relaxed but still quite formal, this helps to put across the idea that the artists are serious about their music but also about having fun and communicating with their fans. Taking my photos in a studio makes my magazine looks more expensive, it looks more like it is meant for a monthly magazine coming from a large instituation rather than coming from an indie instituation.
  24. 24. 6. What have you learnt about tech from the constructing of this product? I have used a lot of technology and hardware to create my magazine. Here are the technologies/hardware that I have used: Powerpoint Word Online blog (wordpress) Photoshop Canon Camera Bridge Voice recorder Slideshare Google Chrome Survey Monkey
  25. 25. Research Planning Production Evaluation Powerpoint Google Chrome Slideshare Wordpress Survey Monkey Voice Recorder Powerpoint Google Chrome Wordpress Photoshop Canon Camera Powerpoint Survey Monkey Photoshop Although I have used photoshop in the past, I've never learnt how to edit photos properly, create more space around them, add text, do shading behind the text, create borders around the text etc. I didn't have enough white space around a few of the photos I used, so I experimented with the stamping tool ass more white around the picture using the actual white in the picture. This was an easy way of extending my image. I also learnt how to cut out images and make the background transparent, this helped a lot with putting extra images on my front cover and using images that had not background for my double page spread. Wordpress I have used blogs in the past, however I've never used wordpress, so I had to get comfortable with a whole new website and blog. The blogging website I've used in the past in Tumblr, so I had a vauge idea of how to do things but Tumblr and Wordpress are completely different. I found it harder to edit my posts on Wordpress, however I learnt how to do it and how to post onto a new platform, also posting new platforms I had never posted before such as powerpoints, through the help of Slideshare.
  26. 26. Slideshare I learnt how to publish my powerpoint documents, get an embedding code and publish it onto my wordpress blog. Before I had no idea you could even publish power points onto a blog so using Slideshare will be benfeital to me and my work later on in courses if I need to publish my powerpoints. Canon cameras Before this project I had only handled Fujifil and Nikon cameras, so it was harder for me to understand Canon cameras. I had to figure out how to zoom in and out, change the camera to either manual or auto focus. Whilst I was learning how to use a new camera I was also using the studio which is something I haven't done before so using the white backdrop and lights was also a new experience for me as well but I've learnt how to change the brightness of the lights, getting the correct amount of light exposure and how to take a decent photograph that will work for a magazine, it's much harder than it seems and isn't like taking normal photos.
  27. 27. Could you have completed your project without using any technology? All of the technology that I have used throughout this project has been beneficial to me, even the technology that is used for simple things like finding magazine front covers and researching different instituations, creating contact sheets etc. it has all benefited my project in some way so I don't think that there is any of the technology that I would have been able to not use and still end up with a finished product in this project. I couldn't of completed without project without using ANY sort of technology, if I had of hand drawn all of my things, written it all up by hand I doubt it would look anywhere near as organised and probably would have less detail in it. So I definitely needed technology to complete this project. What piece of technology could you have done without? I cold of survived with not using a Canon camera and using a Nikon one which I understood more, that way it may have been easier for me to take my photos that I needed. I could of done without the blog as well, although it was beneficial to me and it was an easy way of organising all of my work I would of also preferred it if it wasn't virtual and there was a hard copy of my work ready to be handed in. What pieces of technology couldn't you have done without? I couldn't of done without powerpoint, I found it easy to write up all of my work, evaluate, create my pitch using powerpoint because I could go through it in stages, each slide a different stage so it just made it easier to organise my work as I went through it. Powerpoint was also a nice to way present my work so it looked clear and there wasn't any confusion. I couldn't of done without Photoshop, I needed Photoshop to create realistic looking magazine, if I didn't use Photoshop my magazine final piece would probably looking completely different. Although I struggled using it I probably would have been able to complete my project without using a Canon camera to take the photos I needed.
  28. 28. What were the positives of using technology? Using technology made it much easier for me to be able to create real, decent looking magazine, without the aid of photoshop I wouldn't of been able to create a magazine that looked anywhere near as offical as mine does, I can't create the same effect using something like powerpoint or word. Using technology also made it easier for me to edit my work and play around with it since I have used all of the technology before a version of it, it was easy for me to learn quickly how to edit my work and play around with it until I got to look that I wanted. Another positive was that I was ablet to learn new skills whilst I used new technology so it taught me new skills I didn't have previously and I can now confidently use basic elements of photoshop and try new things. What were the negatives of using technology? Sometimes it would get a bit confusing using so many different programmes for so many different things, it was also sort of a hassle uploading presentations to my blog because I had to use Slideshare, as helpful as it was, to actually upload my presentation onto the internet but then also having to use an embedded code to display it on my blog, it was a lengthy process waiting for everyhting to upload and became stressful when it didn't upload correctly. Another negative of having to use technology was that I had to learn how to use a whole different camera when I was comfortable with my own, it was confusing at the start and wasted some of my time trying to figure out what to do with the camera, when, how to focus it, how to zoom in, turn it portrait etc. There were not as many negatives as there were positives because I wouldn't of been able to finish this project without using technology at all.
  29. 29. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel like you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Preliminary Task: Final Product:
  30. 30. STAGES OF MY PRODUCTION RESEARCH - My project started with research, for my priliminary task I didn't do any research, where as for my final product I did a lot fo research into my audience, institutions and existing music magazines. Having to analyse front covers, contents pages and double page spreads so I could understand what goes into a music magazine. PLANNING For my college magazine I had to do a little planning which was for my contents page, this was just making a dummy of that page. I had to do this for my music magazine as well, however I also had to create a pitch, plan photography, create flatplans, think more about my layouts, create a stylesheet and write an article copy for my music magazine as well. COLLEGE MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE DUMMY
  31. 31. PRODUCTION I prouced my music magazine with more knowledge about magazines because of my research, unlike when I created my college magazine, I didn't know about the significance of buzzwords, coverlines, the masthead etc. So I had developed my ideas by the time it came around to creating my final pieces. You can see the progress made just by looking at the two front covers side by side. I have a headline, more developed coverlines, bardcode, there are more elements on my final product that are used on everyday magazine on my final magazine than my college magazine. I started using more complext ways of laying my magazine out rather than just simple and all stuck to the sides, also using multiple images on each page. I learnt how to develop my layout into an organised way, backing up all of my text so it had a clear place on each page, using pullquotes to highlight asepcts of my magazine as well, which I didn't do in my college magazine. I learnt that buzzwords should also be highlighted to make them stand out more and that multiple colours create more attractive pages.
  32. 32. Activity Technologies Skills Lesson Cutting out model for double page spread/front cover Creating a larger background around a photo Getting the right page layouts for my front cover, contents page and double page spread Drafting Photoshop, polygonal/magnetic lasso Photoshop, stampting tool Photoshop, text tool, shape tool, photos, shadows Powerpoint Zooming Zooming, precision Positioning, interview writing techniques Creating a successful mock up of pages Using these tools I found that each of them had their pros and cons. The polygonal lasson was good for cutting out straight edges where the the magnetic lasson was better for cutting out intricate parts of photos. I found that using the stampting tool was a quick and easy way of adding more of the background in if it was needed, but this only really worked on block colours. I found that using the text tool to create a large amount of text can be challenging however the text tool in photoshop works bettwe when it is being used for smaller amounts of text. I found that even though I had created mock ups of what each of my pages would look like, I tended to deviate from these although the helped me to visualise what my magazine was going to look like as a final product. LESSONS I HAVE LEARNT
  33. 33. Overall I feel like I have created sucessful final product that fits my genre and style of magazine. I think it appeal to my audience, without looking too much like Kerrang! and other magazines I have taken inspirtation from, I have managed to develop photoshop skills and learnt how to manipluate photos to cut models out, create more space and even small touch ups on the face. Looking at my priliminary task and my final product I realise how much progress I have made and the difference between not knowing anything about a magazine, then researching magazines and finding out the information I needed to create my final three pages.
