QUESTION FIVEHow did you attract/address your audience?
Surveys
What did my target audience want when I first asked them
through surveys...
They expected to see...interviews, free gifts, reviews, and high quality articles with musical
jargon and lexis included in them.
I made sure my magazine included all
of these features such as interviews
(my feature article), free gifts (such
as free posters), reviews (tracks
reviews) and then I planned my
article making sure to include lots of
musical jargon and lexis within it.
Question Asked How It Helped...
They wanted to see either big bands or stars and new up and coming young artists from the
genre of indie.
I made sure that my magazine had big
band stars such as Lana Del Rey,
Florence and the Machine, Kaiser
Chiefs as well as Noel Gallagher. I
also made sure it had up and
coming stars such as my main
feature artist ‘Hanna Mac’ who may
not have been very heard of and
popular until now.
Question Asked How It Helped...
They wanted their feature article in the form of an interview.
I made sure that my main feature article
was in the format of an interview
with questions and answers as it
gave a personal insight into the
artists life that my audience wanted
out of their main feature article.
Question Asked How It Helped...
The best part of any magazine for them is the feature article and interviews.
I made sure my magazine had an
interesting feature article as this is
what they are interested in the most
on top of this I made sure it talked
about other interviews and made
sure my feature article was in the
from of an interview to target my
audience as they suggested these
two things as the best part of a
magazine.
Question Asked How It Helped...
To make them attracted to my magazine they wanted professionalism, high quality
contents, correct genre of music they liked, big bands and artists and finally free gifts.
I made sure that my magazine was of
top quality and was very
professional in the way it was
represented. I targeted the correct
genre that they are most interested
in (Indie) as well as having big
bands and artists that are known
globally and finally I had free gifts
such as posters to attract the target
audience to buy my magazine.
Question Asked How It Helped...
The majority of the people I questioned said that they wanted an indie/alternative
magazine. So the genre I have chose for my magazine is this.
I made sure that my genre of magazine
was indie/alternative in order for it to
suit my audience and be more
successful.
Question Asked How It Helped…
They wanted it to be between £2 and £4 price wise.
I made sure that my magazines price
was between this range and so
priced my magazine at £3.50.
Question Asked How It Helped...
For them to purchase it over another they said it needed to have professional looks
and topics/music style that interested them.
I made sure that my magazine had
professional looks by following my
cods and conventions carefully as
well as including topics and artist
that related to the music genre so
that my audience would purchase
my magazine over another.
Question Asked How It Helped...
Rough Cut Feedback (Front Cover)
This feedback helped me see what I could improve on and make better for my final draft of the
magazine. As my target audience decided what they liked and disliked about my magazine to
allow me to make an overall better and more professional magazine.
It helped my front cover because it allowed me to see that they liked the colour scheme - three colour scheme was used of white blue and a bold pink. They said it was well set out and that the layout is good and finally the fonts used were good (- sans serif/ bold to stand out as well as capitals supports codes and conventions.) So from this I knew this is what was attracting them to the magazine so far I then found out what they disliked...
The Image was what they all said should be improved - I had a young looking model which didn't fit in with the genre of the magazine. They said my model needed to be older and the image needs to be more edgy and have a specific style that works well with the genre so from this I improved my magazine.

Rough Cut Feedback (Contents)
It helped my contents page because it allowed me to see that they liked - good Image (creative and different portrays magazine genre), creative and edgy style to the layout and image which fits in with the genre of the magazine and finally colour scheme works well with front cover and the image on the page. So from this I knew this is what was attracting them to the magazine so far I then found out what they disliked...
Go over and make sure information is correct dates and page numbers as well as proof read the articles information, some white text is hard to read try arranging this and try and add a more variety of images to your contents page so from this I improved my magazine.

Rough Cut Feedback (Double Page)
It helped my double page spread because it allowed me to see that they liked...Good layout of the text and image, fonts work well on the page and with the image and genre of the magazine, good picture style (creative), the extras such as captions, quotes and the B-SIDE interview banner and finally colour the use of having the questions in different colours so they stand out as well as important information standing out and carrying on this house style of colours. So from this I knew this is what was attracting them to the magazine so far I then found out what they disliked...
Make the font smaller. Its too large and needs to be smaller and again the model in the photo is too young and doesn't portray the genre of the music and the article, Proof read the article for grammar and spelling mistakes and finally un-hyphenate text and paragraph left justify.
