From using the Macs I learnt how to use the different software downloaded onto them.

I learnt how to open programmes like safari.

I learnt how to use programmes provided on the Macs such as IMovie.

I learnt how quick and easy it is to use them in comparison to other computers as they are newer, they are also more developed and faster.

I learnt the choice of computer is important when making a film because it will determine what programmes you have at your fingertips and also how accessible and fast making the product will be.

From using the DV camera I learnt how to record with a handheld camera.

I learnt how to insert and remove DV tape into the camera.

I also learnt how to upload videos from DV tape onto a computer and learnt how slow this could be in comparison to newer technology cameras.

However I also learnt that although slow, the quality of video and sound from the DV camera was still of good quality.

From using the flip cameras when filming our audience research, I learnt how simple it was to film and upload with.

I learnt how much quicker it was to upload in comparison to the DV camera, however, I also learnt the quality from the flip camera is not as good as the filming from the DV camera.

From using the Canon E0S 650D DSLR camera I learnt how to record and take photos for our final thriller opening.

I learnt how to change the settings on the camera so it is adapted in an appropriate way.

I learnt how professional cameras such as this one can give you great quality video like the DV cameras but with the fast pace of the flip camera when it comes to uploading the videos onto a computer.

I learnt that camera choice is important as it would be the factor to result in how your final product looks and how quick the job gets done.

By using the detachable camera lights I learnt how to attach and remove them from the camera and how to turn them on and off.

I also learnt that lighting is an important aspect to think about when filming because it can create an atmosphere depending on the character.

For example, for a character who is being held hostage, using all 3 key, fill and back lights will give you the impression that they are under a spot light and being held under pressure.

Similarly, for a mysterious character you could use a back light only; to give a silhouette of a character so no prominent features would be shown.

You could also use lighting to highlight the importance of a character.

In the editing stages of our thriller opening we used IMovie.

I learnt how to import and export a video.

I learnt how to insert music, text and transitions into a video clip.

I also learnt how to crop clips and to adjust the speed of a clip.

I learnt to change the footage to give it a different quality and how to have picture in picture.

I also learnt that this is a reliable programme as it saves your work as you go along so if the computer turns off it will still be backed up.

However, I also learnt that if you are editing on IMovie your film will only stay saved on the one computer, meaning you must use the same Mac each time which can be difficult if someone else is using it.

Overall, I learnt that in order to have a successful film, you need to know how use editing software to ensure your film runs smoothly and makes sense for the audience.

We also used Garage Band.

From this programme I learnt how to record and save a podcast and how to record music online.

I learnt that to get this in the best quality possible you would need complete silence otherwise you would hear background noise over the recording which proved to be difficult at times.

To upload our posts we used the website Blogger.

I learnt how to make an account for a blog and this site enabled me to learn how to make posts and publish or draft them, add images, videos, how to add links and upload from websites such as slideshare.

I learnt how to change font size and style, including colour and highlighting and how to look at other people’s blogs or posts as well as my own.

I learnt that blogging is a good way to document the making of a product as it is interesting to look at and is appealing for audience members and easy to access.

We used Youtube to upload our videos for audience research, our preliminary task and our final cut for our thriller opening.

I also learnt how to add tags and notes using the annotation tool, which allowed us to explain to the audience visually our aims for the piece.

By using Slideshare I learnt how to upload a PowerPoint online so it is accessible on the internet. This allowed me to directly share PowerPoint's onto the blog.

I also learnt how to embed a slide so it would visually appear on the blog, not just as a link.

VoiceThread was a useful tool to use as it allowed me to annotate, draw, pause, speak or film onto an already existing video.

This would mean that I learnt how to do all these things in order to create a video which could be used to help explain why we did certain things.

From looking at the SBBFC website I was able to explore film certificates and how they are distributed.

I was able to learn what was tolerated for what age groups, which enabled me to decide what age range thrillers usually based at.

By looking at the FDA website I was able to learn which thrillers were currently on release at the moment, have been released previously and are going to be released in the future.

Through this research I was able to learn how popular thriller films are by how many releases there were; from this I could judge that because there was a lot of thriller films released it must be a popular genre as no one would release a film they would not get profit for.

By researching different film listings online I was able to learn what films were playing and at what cinemas so I was able to see which films were most popular and are being screened most. It also gave me a chance to go out and watch thriller films so I could get a jist of what the thriller genre is all about.

Through the use of IMDb I was able to learn more about specific thriller films, including audience figures, box office revenues and who directed and starred in certain films.

From this research I was able to learn what thriller films were most popular and learn more information about the film so we could also have a hit thriller opening

Through the research done on Art of the title I was able to watch different title sequences to see the opening 2 minutes of a selection of films.

From this research I learnt how different films have different visuals, audio and titles in their opening 2 minutes depending on what genre there film is.

For example a children's animation such as ‘Coraline’ has all animated visuals with childlike titles and eerie sounds to show it is a children’s horror.
