Getting Started

Step One: Go to http://wordpress.com/

Step Two: Go to ‘sign up now’

Step Three: Enter a blog address (something appropriate), a username, a password and an email, and click sign up.

Step Four: Go to your email account and click on the link that has been sent to your email address to authenticate your blog.

Step Nine: Write an opening message for your blog. You could write something like – ‘Hi there, over the next few months I will be updating this blog with comments and reflections on new media and related subject matters.’

Step Ten: Then click update.

Step Twelve: Go to your ‘About’ page, and click Edit.

Step Thirteen: Write a short blurb about your blog. Perhaps something like – This is my reflective blog for COMM234. Over the course of the module, I will upload numerous posts on the subject of new media.

Step Fourteen: Go to Dashboard and click on manage comments.

Step Fifteen: Select the default wordpress comment and click trash.

Step Sixteen: Go to Dashboard > Settings > Discussion and ensure that the ‘Allow people to post comments on new articles’ and ‘An administrator must always approve the comment’ options are selected. This means that people can post comments on your blog, but you have to ‘okay’ them before they appear. You should try to comment on other people’s blogs in your seminar group and respond to comments that people post on your blog.

Step Seventeen: Go and explore your blog…find out how to add pictures and hyperlinks etc.
