Mechatronics Design Lab 1

Decade Counter Design using Two 7-sement LEDs.

Design two-digit decade counter (00-99) using two 7490 counter chips, two 7-

segment LEDs and driver chips, which can be used in many applications such as

external event counting in mechanical systems. Generate 10 Hz square wave using a

function generator, and then count and display the number of pulses using your

designed decade counter.

Function generator, Power supply, Oscilloscope, Multimeter,

Procedure

1.Design a digital logic circuit using pin diagrams and truth tables (refer to TTL Data

Book in the lab) of supplied chips as follows.

2. Generate a 10 Hz square wave using the function generator prepared in the lab.

Check the generated pulse using oscilloscope or multimeter, and make the amplitude

be 5V.

3. Connect the function generator signal to your designed circuit input, and count the

pulse numbers and display it in two 7-segment LEDs.
