To all Meanyites and their guests: You are invited to Meany's inaugural food-wine fund raising auction on Saturday, April 14th from 6 - 10PM at the home of Dan Nord, Meany Tow Operator. This event starts us on our journey to raise over $100,000 needed in the next 5 years to upgrade the infrastructure of the lodge so as to keep Meany available to future generations, like our predecessors did for us. If you have been to Meany this year, you saw, first hand, the beginning of the infrastructure upgrades- the new Turtle head and safety pole. You also experienced why there is an urgency in repairing/upgrading our vehicles. The goal of this event is $20,000. Now that the Mountaineers have 501c3 tax status, your donation to this vital cause is tax deductible.

S K I s BACKTRAK

(narrow version of GOTBACK)

160mm—2 Pair— If you thought big waists weren’t sexy, think

again. The K2 GotBack packs 102 mm under her belt and is proud

of every millimeter. Though no longer the biggest gal in the neigh-

borhood, the K2 GotBack is clearly the most versatile. Lighter

and more playful, she’s just as happy going for long walks in the

backcountry as she is painting smooth arcs in an open bowl or

dancing through tight trees at the resort. She says it’s due to her

All-Terrain shovel rocker and Bioflex wood core, but I

think she’s just being modest.

153mm — In her own way the K2 BrightSide is as

irritatingly likeable as the SideKick. Does she al-

ways smile like that? Hard to when you can’t find a

slope or condition you can’t tame. Quicker and

more energetic than her K2 SideKick, the 2012 K2

Brightside is 90mm underfoot and has two sheets

of metal that give her a smooth, supple accuracy.

181mm —The 11/12 K2 BackUp is the ideal ski mountain-

eering tool. Built with Speed Rocker to take on all snow con-

ditions, the K2 BackUp is equally happy making laps as a

resort telemark ski. Two sheets of metal with an ultra-

lightweight wood core provide exceptional edgehold, as well

as a damp, supple feel typically not commonly found in skis

this light. Its 82 mm waist is narrow enough to excel wheth-

er descending refrozen conditions or skinning in hard, bony

conditions, but wide enough to handle variable snow with

ease and predictability. Make this K2 ski your quiver of one.

BackLite (narrow version of WayBack)

174mm— As the name implies, the K2 WayBack prefers head-

ing out to rustic huts instead of busy resorts. A superlight wood

core with an abundance of carbon fiber makes this adventure

K2 ski one of the lightest mid-fats on the market. It excels at

long approaches and pays increasingly greater dividends the

farther one ventures into the mountains. The All-Terrain shovel

rocker combined with the shallow, progressive sidecut makes

the K2 WayBack ultra-predictable in high-alpine conditions,

with the added benefit of rocker that also makes trail-breaking

virtually effortless

SlideShoww

188mm—Remember when powder skis were 90mm underfoot and a nightmare on firm snow? How quickly the world changes. The K2 Side-Show is actually for those who ski more firm snow than soft. Though still admirable in powder, the metal laminate sidewall construction will etch laser sharp arcs on translucent hardpack that will leave the racers gawking. It’s also light enough that you won’t be surprised when you see it utilized as a powerful, high performance touring ski.

172mm—The award winning Line Prophet Flite has a much lighter, liveli-er and playful feel, than the other Prophets in the family thanks to its unique Composite Matrix™, Aspen Mac-roblock™ wood core & 4D Fibercap™ construction. New this year we’ve add-ed some subtle Early Rise™ for more float & even easier turn initiation on firm snow while maintaining a price that can’t be beat.

Prophet Flite

179mm—The completely re-designed Line Prophet 90 skis feature a Metal Ma-trix™ & new! Capwall™ construction for a smoother high speed ride and lightning fast edge control. We’ve even added a subtle Early Rise™ in the tip to get you some extra float on uneven terrain & ef-fortless turn initiation on the hard pack. Combine the unmatched power of a For-mula 1 race car with the lighting fast re-flexes of a street bike, and . . . you get the idea, just point em’.

10 Infra-Red Sauna Sessions

Far Infrared Sauna sessions are great for your health! They can increase circulation, relieve pain, reduce stress, deep-ly detox your body, improve your skin tone, clarity and texture, and much more. FIR sauna's are more comfortable than tradi-tional sauna's. They run much cooler, yet they produce more sweat and release more toxins. Most people who do not like or tolerate traditional sauna's are pleasantly surprised when they try FIR saunas. You are purchasing a punch card good for 10 sessions in the professional 4 person FIR sauna at Linda's in-home private practice on Phinney Ridge. Sessions may be used by one person or split with friends/family. One popular option is to bring up to 3 other people at once for a sauna party. Once you've tried it, go tell the Meany Chair WE REAL-LY NEED ONE AT MEANY.

Planet Ice What the ice tells us about the past may help us un-derstand the future of ice, and us, on Earth. Planet Ice documents the beauty and the power of ice and its unique role in revealing the changing condition of the planet. Glaciers and ice fields are critical to the health of our world--and we are making them disap-pear. Pairing the striking glacier photography of James Martin with essays by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, polar bear expert Ian Stirling, ice scientist Richard Alley, glaciologist Gino Casassa, and noted writers Gretel Ehrlich, Nick Jans, and Broughton Coburn, Planet Ice examines the charac-teristics of polar, mountain, and tropical ice. It also explores human concepts of ice and wilderness; the lives of penguins, polar bears, and other fauna that depend on ice; the far-reaching effects of climate change; and our responsibilities as stewards of the natural world. Yet this is not just a book of science. Together, these authors illuminate the profound connection between ice--a substance that is at once mutable and forceful--and the wellbeing of our glob-

To The Artic In this stunning, large-format, panoramic photo essay, renowned nature photographer Florian Schulz takes readers on a personal journey to the remote arctic. In contrast to the common perception of the arctic as a "vast nothingness," Schulz's images display an ecosystem of sur-prising richness that is teeming with life. Fol-lowing the cycle of a year, To the Arctic show-cases a pageant of wildlife oddly captivating

forms of muskoxen, waves of migrating caribou, and some of the most extraordi-nary images ever captured of a mother polar bear and her two cubs. For an in depth preview of "To The Arctic", please visit www.WelcomeToTheArctic.org.
