'The Finest' is a beautiful, white, fragrant hybrid tea, with a hint of coral/pink blush while still in the bud. 'The Finest' is named to honor the 23 New York Polic Department officers who died in the line of duty on Sept. 11, 2001. The announcement of 'The Finest' was made in coordination with an April 27, 2007, National Gardening Association event dedicating a new rooftop garden at Public School #41 at New York City’s Greenwich Village Elementary School. The school is a recipient of a 2007 “Remem- ber Me” Rose School Garden Award, sponsored by All-America Rose Selections. In her announcement, Sue Casey of “Remember Me” Rose Garden stated, “Twenty-three NYPD officers, in their dedication to protect the lives of fellow citizens, gave the ultimate sacrifice — their own lives. It is a privilege to honor the bravery and courage of these NYPD Officers with 'The Finest'.” Casey quoted retired NYPD Officer Mike Hughes, who said in naming a rose for the NYPD officers there could be no other name for this rose but, 'The Finest'! 'The Finest' is another ex- quisite rose hybridized by Ping Lim of Bailey Nurseries Inc., and will be available at retail garden centers nationwide in 2009.
