    6. What are straight line mechanisms? Describe one type of exact

    straight line motion mechanism with the help of a sketch.

    7. State and prove Arohnold Kennedys theorem.8. Explain the overlay method of graphical synthesis.

    9. Deduce the expressions for the velocity and acceleration of a cam

    follower when it moves with simple harmonic motion.

    10. State and derive the law of gearing.

    Module I

    11. Explain the different inversions of the slider crank mechanism.

    12. A crank rocker linkage has a 100mm frame, a 25mm crank, a

    90mm coupler, and a 75mm rocker. Draw the linkage and find the

    maximum and minimum values of transmission angle .Locate the

    both toggle positions and record the swing angle of the rocker.

    13. Find the velocities of points B, C, and D of the double slidermechanism shown in figure if crank rotates at 42 rad/s ccw. Also

    find the acceleration of the point D.

    14. What is meant by Coriolis component of acceleration? Derive the

    expression for the

    same.

    15. Synthesize a function generator to solve the equation y = 1/x, 1< x < 2 using three

    precision points.

    16. a) Which are the different steps in kinematic synthesis? (6)

    b) Draw a crank rocker to give 45 rocker rotations with equal time

    forward and backward.

    17. Draw the profile of a cam which raises a valve with SHM through 3cm in 1/3 of

    revolution, keep it fully raised through 1/12 revolution and it is closed in next 1/3

    revolution with SHM. The valve remains closed during the rest of revolution. The

    diameter of the roller is 1cm and minimum radius of the cam is to be 2cm.The axis of

    the valve rod is offset by 1cm from the axis of the cam shaft.

    Or

    18. A cam with a minimum radius of 25mm is to be designed for a knife edge follower

    with the following data:

    i) To raise the follower through 35mm during 60 rotation of the cam

    ii) Dwell for next 40 of the cam rotation

    iii) Descending of the follower during the next 90 of the cam rotation

    iv) Dwell for the rest of the cam rotation

    Draw the profile of the cam if the ascending and descending of the cam is with simple

    harmonic motion and the line of stroke of the follower is offset 10mm from the axis

    of the shaft

    19. A 20 involute pinion with 20 teeth drives a gear having 60 teeth .Module is 8mm and

    addendum of each gear is 10mm.

    i) Show whether interference occurs or not

    ii) Find the length of path of approach and arc of approach if pinion is the driver.

    20. In an epicyclic gear train an annular wheel A having 54 teeth

    meshes with a planet wheel B which gears with a sun wheel C, the

    wheels A and C being coaxial. The wheel B is carried on a pin fixed

    on one end of arm P which rotates about the axis of the wheels A

    and C.If the wheel A makes 20 r.p.m in a clockwise sense and the

    arm rotates at 100 r.p.m in the anticlockwise direction and the

    wheel C has 24 teeth, determine r.p.m and sense of rotation of C
