PREMIER MAGAZINE CROSS-MEDIAS DE DECO GRATUIT

English EDiTiOnnO. 14 March/april 2014

It was hard to design this issue MCommeMaison in

at a time of year where one thing haunts our minds...

getting out of the house... As beautiful and design as

our charming homes may be, the cold seems resolu-

tely determined to finally let us enjoy some fresh air

and wide open spaces. We thank it for all the warm

evenings and bit it farewell until next year. It was the-

refore necessary to remind everyone that, even in the

spring, we don't live for collections and don't shower

under waterfalls. But above all, with sunshine in our

soul, we have concocted an issue for you that exudes

fresh air... Go on, open wide the windows, and not

just any windows... We are preparing appetizers in

kitchens that maximize our time, while fulfilling our

sense of design. And patios... ah... patios... the ob-

ject of our new desires, natural and refined. And as

it is also the time to start discovering ourselves, we

thought that you would enjoy walking barefoot on

sensual and elegant flooring... Romantics, inspired by

spring, can jaunt off to Paris and discover the lavish

Hôtel Atmosphères. And since it is time to get back

out and see the world, we present you some new

designers, inspired, creative, minds coming together.

And finally... we even went so far as to prepare a

new category for you: garden design... a promenade

like the gardens of the Abbey of Saint André de Vil-

leneuve... inspiration and escapism...

Kitchens 2014the new dimension of desire...

In 2014, the trend of custom kitchens, imagined to order through scalable design and implementation, is growing and strengthening. Beyond an ergonomic and practical kitchen, the trendy kitchen in 2014 is becoming a real object of desire...

Purity, harmony and precision are the wat-chwords of this trend. From Aviva, straight work surfaces, with a sturdy and sleek ef-fect, combining modernity with the authen-tic look of slate, set the tone for these kit-chens that seem to be assertive on their own. A symbol of ultimate perfection, the golden ratio, used since time immemorial in the search for harmony of a composition, inspires the world of design. The trend in kitchens for 2014 is to combine to modular elements in an infinite number of combina-tions depending on your desires and needs. Customization is pushed to the extreme, to our great pleasure. Maintaining harmony in this field of possibilities is ensured by a single measurement, a precious number.

From LAGO, the 36.8 kitchen, derives its very name of this mystical mathematic tradition. All of the elements are designed around a single square measuring 36.8 cm x 36.8 cm. The storage units can be posi-tioned horizontally or vertically, with endless, always harmonious, possibilities. The kitchen looks like a real artistic composition. Personal creativity can be expressed freely, because, whatever the choice, true perfection, both ergonomic and aesthetic, remains. Ikea also advocates the mathematical harmony with the "Metod" line. All elements are designed from multiple 20 cm boxes. The number, ensuring excellence, makes anything pos-sible; the LAGO and IKEA ranges are both available in many colors.

If Maslow's pyramid, representing the hie-rarchy of human needs, has inspired many theories, today, for our great pleasure, we can discover a new dimension, governed by the heart, and desire... Thanks to the passion and boundless creativity of desi-gners and stylists, it is no longer neces-sary to meet physical constraints to have the kitchen of our dreams... Safety, eco-nomy, belonging, and esteem are vague and distant concerns, in the face of these kitchens that offer... everything, and so much more... Can you tell if the "Moda" kitchen by Ixina, with its shimmering co-lors, blending soft gray and lines of per-fect simplicity, belongs to a person with a

practical mind or who is image conscious? The Ikea "Laxarby" model, is it functional, beautiful, luxurious, or economical? It's the kitchen that meets the desires of the per-son who purchase it, beyond mere needs. Inspired by old craft furniture, modernized by the functionality of interior fittings, it fits all lifestyles and its look will inspire and awaken the heart of its occupants. Down to the slightest detail, the trend for 2014 generates momentum, envy, where functional is expected. The "ONNA" hood from Pando's "Hotte couture" collection delights the senses with its artistic volume. Its languid curves inspire reverie, the hood becomes a true work of art.

A new spirit is taking over kitchens in 2014. Physical constraints are fading away and designers, at the same time as they are becoming freed, can see new places, where creation extends to infinity... These new kitchens seem to have a soul. Cus-tom designed according to the wishes of those who will use them, they seem born within the home. Mixing looks, techno-logies, and materials from different eras, they are surprising due to their apparent lack of style. They remain, in their pure simplicity, im-prints of a powerful mind, which seems to be their own. Make no mistake, their cha-racter is discreet, because it is freed from rigid codes, but it is palpable. Nothing is

changing in the new kitchens, where eve-rything seems perfect and in harmony with the environment and the lifestyle of its inhabitants. The "So'Oak" Kitchen by Xavie'Z, with its contemporary, graphic, and minimalist look, is all about the art of detail, pure and ultimate refinement, a mark of elegance. Stone and wood blend subtly with a frame in reserve that lightens the furniture and forms a setting around the unit. The solid Burgundy oak, sanded and stai-ned, is paired with bronze handles and the Anroche stone work surface. The many fossils in the stone give it the im-print of life. The appliances are hidden behind the solid oak cabinet faces...

FOCUS: HIGH TECH IN THE KITCHEN

Finally, it is possible to enjoy new technology in this space dedicated to action. Cooking to music, and letting yourself by guided by its sound to to create culinary pleasures, catching up on the news while keeping an eye on the burner, discovering new recipes on the Internet in a jiffy, guided by improvisation, all of this and more is possible, thanks to the Media modules offered by Siematic. And, thanks to the seamless integration of modules into work surfaces, nothing is taken away from the authenticity and spontaneity of culinary momentum...

The past, present and future merge in this latest trend to create a harmony beyond all material constraints. Attractive, practical, but not just that... Almost in-describable, the latest trend takes on the aura of a mystical veil. The kitchens are beautiful, in silence, and it can't be explai-

ned. Ready to serve all the needs of their inhabitants, they can be adjusted with ease, with a generous simplicity. With Pedini's "Servo drive" opening, doors open silently, with a simple touch of the hand. The kitchen benefits from the combination of tradition and innovation,

which composes a new living space, in comfort. Not flashy or ostenta-tious, but with a great deal of grace, the layout can follow your every whim. From Camif, the kitchen, arranged in a small space, loses none of its elegance, adorned with a bright red. And, if there is still room, it is reserved for pla-cing a crate filled with flowers, recalling the essence of those who reside in these places...

By analyzing what characterizes a city, some designers are engaged in a very interesting creative discussion. In few of the large cities of the world, designers have associated the image of the material that best characterizes these cities.Wood, for the vegetation surrounding Rio, stone for Rome, concrete for London. The new URBAN inspired range from Vitra here provides a superb example of creations in porcelain, traditional materials that be-come patterns, similar to wood, stone, and concrete, on a smooth, modern, and easy to clean surface. Regarding colors, the available offering covers a wide range of colors: golds, always glamorous, silvers, more simple, matte steels with an indus-

trial look. Whether for walls or floors, just let your imagination run wild, and everyone can achieve their dream, simple or lavish, to ensure that the spaces express their own originality. For an equally contempo-rary feel, the concrete impression provided by the Décorial laminate flooring creates a deceptively urban atmosphere, industrial and yet comfortable. We love these de-cidedly metallic colors which highlight the massive elegance of the designer furni-ture. The colors are simple and warm, like a reassuring envelope of earthly energy. The advantage of this type of solution is that you can regularly change and com-bine decorative elements to create the atmosphere you crave in every room.

Our modern, urban lives naturally lead us to want to surround ourselves with au-thentic, natural materials. At the forefront of the trend, and with more choices than ever before, hardwood floors fulfill those different aesthetic and qualitative features we seek. New, unique colors provide ele-gant and sophisticated shades, and enable us to use them in every room, from the kitchen to the bathroom, like from Design Parquet. Hardwood flooring goes perfectly with all interior styles, whether it is accom-panied by designer furniture, with straight and sleek lines or rustic, with firm, more pronounced lines. Designed from solid oak, a noble and natural material, the new colors provide strength and durability to

the floor and present an ideal alternative for unique, soothing atmospheres. Daring colors like gray-black fit perfectly with mini-malist, chic, urban retro or vintage natural ambiances. In a contemporary kitchen, both ultra-modern and authentic, hard-wood flooring can dress up the dining area, in an elegant and refined manner. Its unique appearance gives a remarkable character to the room. Like most products from the Chêne de l’est collections, and regardless of the color chosen, the result is both natural and timeless with its grain and its knots, which provides a warm and elegant side to any room. Not to mention that the bright colors give the small space a feeling of spaciousness and brightness.

To magnify interiors, tile manufacturers are not skimping on creativity when it comes to adorning every part of the home. Tiles now have high definition shades, here is a particularly successful example from Tile of Spain which resembles real marble, quite classy!

When you are lucky enough to have rooms with large volumes, the choice of flooring is of paramount importance, either aesthetically or functionally. In the case of shared workspaces where there is a lot of traffic, priority will be given to the practicality of the material. For an elegant and refined look, woven floor coverings from Dickson® combine the look and feel of fabric. Ultra durable, waterproof, highly versatile, it is distinguished by its two major advan-tages: its woven surface repels water and dirt, and its underlay provides per-fect insulation and soundproofing. These qualities enable it to adapt to many uses (kitchens, bathrooms, restaurants, public buildings, sports halls, offices, hotels, etc.).

The wide range of weaves and colors available can suit a multitude of design wishes, from more natural to more so-phisticated. The advantages of vinyl are assertive but relaxed in decoration. For large spaces in a personal residence, like in a living room for example, we will opt for less restrictive solutions in terms of maintenance and wear, and focus more on aesthetics. In the case of a very long room, you can easily re-balance the volumes using verti-cal-slatted hardwood flooring, in order to amplify the width of the room. Simple, a relaxation area, accented with hints of colors and adorned with a "leather" color wood floor from Panaget guarantees a unique look for this room.

Bathrooms, the art of illusion...

Although the wood is very popular and looks great in a bathroom, it is not advisable to install a wood floor in so-called "damp" rooms. Thanks to ceramic, it is possible to have an imitation wood floor, Tile of Spain manages, for example, to highlight the grain and knots of this faux wood flooring out of tile for a surprising realistic rendering...

FOCUS ON ORGANIC FLOORING...

In an ongoing effort to respect the environment and the health of consumers, some flooring manu-facturers are developing products from renewable, organic raw materials.PURLINE, from Wineo is the first organic, environmentally-friendly flooring, thanks to the use of chalk, canola and castor oils. But it also offers high durability, thanks to considerable water and maintenance savings throughout its life, PURLINE meets the highest requirements of healthy living. Manufactured without chlorine, plasticizers or solvents, it is odorless and free of VOC emissions, what could be more reassuring!

Do you dream of creating a Mediterra-nean patio atmosphere in your back yard? Be bold, go for the natural stone effect. Today, surface and color are worked to enhance the raw look of the material, without its disadvantages. Quality glazed stoneware, for example, provides a near-zero porosity material, so tile is waterproof,

and upkeep is very easy. It is also frost proof, which protects against cracks and other problems related to weather. Thanks to a suitable thickness, the PIETRA VITA tile by Orsol, presented here, enables the easiest and fastest installations. On hard surfaces (concrete, old patios, wood, etc.), it can be glued or simply attached to pins

for a floating installation, ideal outdoors. On grass or sand, it can be placed directly without any ac-cessories. A real asset for charm in garden and on the patio, Orsol tiles of-fer designs ranging from traditional to original, you can play with the mix of materials: wood, fabric, stone, steel.... Juggle with materials that have raw looks, break barriers, and above all, enjoy...

Arik LevyArik Levy is an artist, technician, photographer, designer, and filmmaker born in 1962. He has multiple talents and his works are exhibited in prestigious galleries and international museums. He is best known for his sculptures, including Rock pieces, his installations, his limited editions, and his design that does not stop him from thinking that "the world belongs to man, not objects."

Jar RGBThe Jar RGB project combines the technique of finely-blown tinted glass with the RGB color-mixing method. The clear glass bottle is transformed into a kind of large bulb that generates light for the whole ensemble. Bottles are observed through each other, and the space that surrounds them provides us with an exceptional, infinite discovery of color superimposition. LabyrinthLabyrinth, by Arik Levy is inspired by the fluidity, connections, nature, and relationships... Fabric-covered colored electrical wires enter tubes of borosilicate glass and come out in different places through lampshades shaped like hanging bells. The Labyrinth rod can be placed at various locations along the wire, and thus give an impression being suspended in space.

Hervé Van Der StraetenFor the fourth consecutive year, the Karsten Greve Gallery in St. Moritz (Switzerland) is dedicating its winter exhibition to the work of French designer Hervé Van der Straeten. His pieces of furniture, mirrors, and lighting will interact with the works of contemporary artists from the gallery, from February 8 to April 19, 2014. The exhibition will take a look at the work of Hervé Van der Straeten, reflecting on constantly renewed exploratory search in absolute precision between nested or misaligned volumes, contrasting materials and combining textures. He will be exhibiting pieces not shown in Switzerland, as the Miroir Nébuleuse, a mirror in electric blue anodized aluminum that recalls the free forms of automatic writing, a new version of the Chaos console whose assembly, in blocks of plum and red lacquered wood show the designer's work on balance; the new range of iconic lamps by Hervé Van der Straeten such as the Pastilles table lamps in gilding and white marble, or the Volubile gilded and patinated bronze brass lamp.

Didier and Fabrice Knoll, Didier and Fabrice Knoll, in collaboration with Dyson and Saint-Gobain, are presenting the Projet 1,2,3 exhibit in the A Glass House space. On display until April 2014, this concept combines space optimization and multi-function objects, to give a new vision to bathrooms in the home.Didier and Fabrice Knoll are brothers. And colleagues. Graduates of the School of Fine Arts in Paris, they are both at once licensed architects, interior architects, and designers. Working together is a no-brainer: to compare and combine their ideas, opinions, desires, in sectors as diverse as hotels, restaurants, residences, the world of offices, of showrooms and of stage design. Surrounded by a team of young talents, they refuse clichés, a priori, the blinders. It's an approach that brings originality, personality, and uniqueness to their projects. It is also a way to make an impression and stand out from the others.

A time for postmodernism and a mixture of styles...1980 was marked by the advent of postmodernism and a new mindset. At the origin of new attractions, a more fun and colorful way of life, with no fear of bad taste, the consequence of a normative social judgment, the 80's are in contrast to an era cente-red on progress, and control of the environment through science and or-ganization, structure. Interiors, whose organization is dictated by practical and modern common sense, and a collective aesthetic, leave a clear place for humor, irony, and mixing styles.

Nothing is serious anymore, and eve-rything becomes and remains pos-sible. Minimalist architecture, focusing on the use of technical materials and ergonomic solutions designed by en-gineers gave way for custom architec-tural achievements.

Opening up an unpredictable destiny...At the origin of this cultural transi-tion was a profound transformation of mindsets. Far from being a new trend, following the previous on by opposing modernism and post-mo-dernism is a reopening onto all his-

The 80's means funk, neon, rhinestones and suntans, right? Certainly, yes, several generations maintain a fond, or sometimes amused or critical memory of this period, because one thing is certain, it was a significant period. This base for creations, characterized by a very specific style, was based on a true socio-cultural revolution. This period, of upheaval of spirits, ways of living and looking at things is the result of an existential crisis, dismissing the prospect of a linear destiny. A place for eclecticism and diversity!

The money years...1980

torical times and geographical areas. If modernism is built out of

a break with the past, offering a new way of life and a common internatio-nal vision, post-modernism embraces all trends, even modernism. The de-sire to expand the horizon, to face the unexpected, in violent reaction to bore-dom generated by a predictable fate. The 80's, not at all, it's fun, you can do "anything", and it's all good!

The artistic explosion ...Creatively, art takes advantage of this "disorganization." It is expressed outside the standardized framework in which it no longer even realizes that it remains... There is no more, in the 80s, a a field belonging to art, it captured all worlds, mixed all sources, space, and time. Pop art, for example, breaks down and reconstructs creations stiffened by their celebrity, all in mixing media and techniques. Happenings see their peak at this time, confusing time lived with creative time, mixing all forms of art within an event, a moment.

Flashy design...Socio-cultural boundaries are stretched. Elitist culture dissolves, resulting in the loss of aesthetic and cultural landmarks. With the rise of informational tools and networks, a new logic of art and creation is taking form. Mass reproduction promotes this loosening of creative value. The busi-ness model orients the nature of artistic works and attitudes are changing. The 1980s were a decade personal ambi-tion, golden boys, the working girls, and money. Within interiors, the urban loft style, is the rage. The decor is sleek, graphic, colors are mixed, open and dynamic. Halogen lighting invaded the interior, making lights bright, conducive to action and externalization.

The 80s were marked by a profound transformation of attitudes and the so-cio-economic model, they initiated the famous consumer society, discrimina-ted against today. The "80's" style, despite evoking a nice idea of letting go and having fun, has long been had negative connotations, despite fans of this era morally unrestrained bright... Today, the trend seems to be to return to the best of 80's design: the parties, the humor, the lack of boundaries and seriousness. So, off to your neon and fluorescent paints for design that is full of brightness and cheerfulness...

In the 112 original large format prints on the walls of each room and in the hotel lobby, we discover what Thierry Ouches called his "exotic proximity," a subtle blend of his admiration for the beauty of the historical monuments and the humor with which he decrypts the little habits of Parisians...To stage these images, never before presented to the public, Vincent Bastie has fully revised the volumes of the hotel and decorated its 56 rooms

From the hall, the artistic immersion is immediate: the visitor discovers the Thierry Ouches film, "PARIS", forecasting the theme of his photos, like entering living matter, an invitation to discover more in the rooms. As an answer to the ubiquity of art is an original architectural work, as evidenced by the grand entrance with its hanging staircase leading to the breakfast room. Here and in the corridors, the rough stone has been preserved. This authentic material, full of history, contrasts elegantly with contemporary guest rooms to tell a new story.

Obviously, these are the openings, doors and windows, that give a room its real style. Windows are a much more funda-mental element in that they that diffuse light and heat, humidity or cold. Regardless of their forms, the manufacturing material, glazing, and style that make you crave, you can talk to specialists in tailor-made creations for installing windows or French doors, to create a personal, very current atmosphere. With Isofrance windows, you can even have fun using a photo of your front uploaded to the website, to simu-late the color of your future windows and other woodwork, by decorating them with many options. You can choose the color

of your window, select the desired ope-ning (classic shutter, tilt and turn), choose from many options to dress your win-dow (handles, hinges, etc.) and add the finishing touches to your window with a choice of glazing and crosspieces. Once the style of the window is selected and produced, it still needs to be dressed, the possibilities are endless and the objec-tive is to magnify and maximize the win-dow both esthetically and technically, and consult to specialists. Designers like Hey-tens offer both curtains, sheer curtains, Japanese panels, Roman shades, vertical blinds, roller blinds, of which this is a very successful example.

Tradition AND modernity...

The large volume of this room requires a good distribution of light in each space. To adapt perfectly to the industrial style and traditional materials of this house, contemporary-style wooden windows give it a very classy look. Here, Janneau woodwork marries high tech with the authenticity and tradition of the handmade Espagnolette.

Depending on the room where the woodwork will be installed, some types of openings are preferred. In this rectangular kitchen, the only thing to plan for is the height of the windows with regard to the furniture and other elements. Here, UFME windows stage the view, with the dual side opening and tilt and turn system allows all arrangements without any constraint.

If the patio is an extension of the home, its primary function is to enable us to access ... the exterior... the outdoors... and enjoy the caress of a breeze, the rays of sunshine and even, for the more daring, the freshness of a summer rain. Getting out into the fresh air, means finding the sky, nature, freeing yourself from the goals and concerns of everyday life, breaking free, taking time for a relaxing drink with friends or some solo time... The new trendy patios are adorned with the natural, with wood, genuine. Expert Relais Bois presents a patio with a minimalist design, modern yet authentic, all in wood, where the sky, water, and plants make up an authentic décor worthy of a moment

in nature. In this trend, where the décor enjoys a beautiful simplicity, the accessories fashion and compose the place. Designer and clean, blinds from Francia Flex charac-terized by their robustness and elegant sim-plicity, have many options that make the good life on the patio... The roller valance protects against the low sun of late after-noon without obscuring the view of the sky, we dreamed of it... LEDs, heating, integrated sound or mist, promise real moments of relaxation and conviviality outdoors. From Osram, lights, ergonomic and economical, melt into the landscape. The Mini Garden Spots mark out the patio, naturally dazzling, with a path of light. The view is beautiful...

FOCUS: WOOD, QUITE SIMPLY...

Sensual people will appreciate the authenticity of a wood floor; the feel, look, and even smell of a living material. Because today, building a wooden deck is a breeze, pragmatic minds will be fulfilled, too, by this material's ease of installation and dura-bility.From Réseau pro, strips of exotic wood can be assembled with screws, in order to compose a floor that is both soft to the touch and without risk of slipping, for a patio with a natural, elegant spirit.

To fully experience this subtle harmony between inside and outside, extend the ex-perience by taking advantage of the expertise of designers and manufacturers who extol the qualities of nature to create luxurious designs, in full respect for the environment. Everything already exists to perfection in the

open air, and the cool shade of the trees with leaves full of water, wind regulating the tem-perature of a space without walls, the light of a moonlit night or the shelter of temperate rock. Enjoy the natural benefits within your patio, while not seeking any more than what nature has to offer... The bioclimatic "Natural

open space" patio from Biossun is designed using fully recyclable materials. The ingenuity of its design optimizes the qualities of the air and sun to natu-rally regulate the tempera-ture of the patio and the house. Protected from rain or violent winds, you can savor relaxing moments outdoors, enjoy irrepla-ceable natural lighting, pleased with the low ener-gy costs generated by this luxurious comfort...

In this maze of arches, an unparalleled view of the Papal Palace in Avignon and the Alpilles recalls the strategic importance of this high place since the 10th century, when the first Benedictine abbey was established.
