PROMOTION BOARD SEQUENCE (Part 1)
*Before a cadet even begins the promotion board process: ask the SMI & MI if the cadet is
Academically eligible to begin the process. If the Cadet is receiving a grade of “D” or below (IN ANY CLASS), they are ineligible for promotion – RHS Grading Periods are every 6 weeks.
ONLY the SMI & MI will look at the Cadet’s RHS academic grades for their other classes (confidentiality) to see if the Cadet is eligible for promotion
1.Has the Cadet completed ALL requirements for promotion to the next rank?
Promotion Package Contents:
a. Cadet’s Plt Cmdr / Plt Sgt will fill out the Pro & Con worksheet
b. Final Inspection for promotion worksheet – Platoon Cmdr / Plt Sgt
c. Drill Eval completed – This eval should be completed prior to Promotion Board
d. Passing score on the current YPFT and worksheet filled out
e. Cadet counseling sheets (from the past Semester) filled out
2.Cadet Leadership submits COMPLETED promotion package to Company Leadership (C/CO) for review. C/CO is NOT the determining authority on promotion (SMI only). C/CO will not hold up a package unless one of the criteria's are not met.
PROMOTION BOARD SEQUENCE (Part 2)
3.Company Leadership schedules a date for the promotion board – After school function,
preferably on Tuesdays after the Staff Meeting (Reference current MCJROTC BDR)
4.Conduct during Promotion Board
a. Cadet’s Entire Chain of Command is present
b. Plt Cmdr briefs the Board on the Cadet’s records and recommendation.
c. ONLY the SMI & MI will look at the Cadet’s RHS academic grades for their other
classes (need to know basis) to see if the Cadet is eligible for promotion
d. When called in, Cadet will report to the senior member of the promotion board
for evaluation and questioning.
e. SMI & MI will vote at the promotion board for final decision.
f. Promotion package will be entered into the Cadet’s Service Record and if
approved for promotion, the cadet leadership will schedule a promotion
ceremony through the SMI & MI.
**The Cadet’s leadership is also being evaluated on preparation of the Promotion Package, completion of all requirements, and ability to schedule / brief the promotion board.

REPORTING IN: “Sir, Cadet (Rk, Lname), Reporting to the Senior Member of the Promotion Board”
1. Cadet’s Plt Cmdr will brief the Promotion Board on the Cadet’s promotion package.
2. Cadet will REPORT to the SMI.
3. SMI & MI will ask questions and evaluate.
4. Cadet’s leadership will be prepared to answer any questions regarding the Cadet’s performance and future potential.
5. SMI will make final decision.

REPORTING OUT: -After command: “Cadet, you are dismissed.” -At POA in front of the chair - “Aye Aye, Sir” -Then step to the Left of chair and say “Good Afternoon Sir” -Then smartly exit the room
REQUIREMENTS
Time in Grade (TIG) & Time in Service (TIS) - LE I: C/Private – C/Corporal LE II: C/Sergeant – C/Staff Sergeant LE III: C/Staff Sergeant – C/Gunnery Sergeant LE IV: C/2nd Lieutenant – C/Captain Promotions will be based upon: Individual performance and conduct Leadership potential Billet availability Ability to show a high level of commitment to this Program -Make MCJROTC a priority Needs of the program (discretion of the SMI) *Meritorious Promotions & Demotions will be at the sole discretion of the SMI & MI.
A Cadet can be relieved and/or demoted at anytime based upon diminished or unsatisfactory performance, attitude, lack of time/effort, and conduct unbecoming
an honorable Cadet.
Just because you are an LE III or LE IV does not give you the right to hold a certain rank or billet.
EVERYTHING associated with this program is referenced in school policy, Marine Corps Order, and
at the discretion and judgement of the RHS Administration and the Senior Military Instructor!
