Dr. Miller’s delivery
Dr. Miller’s delivery of supplies came. He sent:
- 2 tardigrade handbooks
- PVA MTNG Medium
- Irwin loop- Small petri dish
With his supplies, Christina was able to catch a tardigrade and put it into the PVA to create a
tardigrade slide.
3
Christina found a tardigrade and isolated it between microscope slides. She was able to determine that it was of the genus Ramazzottius based on the observed shape of the claws (this was also confirmed with Dr. Miller).

Color Filters on the digital microscope

6
The color filters can be used to look at different things. With some filters, you can see a certain thing and with others that thing
is not visible. The filters will also work differently depending on the light source
being used.

Follow-up Proposal

Proposal is almost done. The only thing left to finalize it is the list of supplies, which we cannot do until we have come up with a full space habitat design.

Phone calls
Steve Heck (Blue Origin) → call went well, we now have a better understanding of what we are dealing with in terms of the Blue Origin microgravity flights
Ron Goedendorp (NanoRacks) → We have a call with Ron on Friday at 1:45pm.
Traci Parker (Silicon Valley Space Center) → we spoke a little bit about what we have done so far, grants, and she connected us with Danielle (a potential funder)

Plate scanner
More supplies were bought:- Cables ($7.29)- Bread board ($8.99)- Motor shield ($7.99)
In order to completely finish the plate scanner, all the supplies bought will need to be bought again to create the top layer (y-axis) of the plate scanner.
Plan to finish: We will 3D print all the needed parts ahead of time and then buy the supplies. Mark will bring it home and work on it between blocks. Group members can collaborate to work.

Plate Scanner So Far…
We have completed half of our plate scanner. The parts we have include…
- Stepper Motor #1 - Arduino #2- Motor Shield #3- Breadboard #4- Bearings #5- Steel rods #6- Jumper cables #7 - 3D printed connector #8

Christina - 9 (We got what we needed to get done, done. Though the building of the plate scanner is coming along a bit slower than expected because of how long 3D printing takes)
Remy - 9 (We were able to assemble half of the plate scanner. We were also able to successfully connect the arduino to the stepper motor)
Mark - 9 (Fun week, we finished the plate scanner bottom piece and made lots of progress with the arduino and stepper motor.)
Jake - 8 (We were able to get a lot done. However I could tell we were all stressed out. I do think we have gotten quite a lot accomplished.)Drew - 9 (we were able to get a good amount of work done. I wish that we were able to get the plante scanner done on time.)
How we feel about this week…
