Brother Knights,
We find ourselves now in 2017. I am proud of being a Catholic gentleman and all that that means. I am excited for what is to come this year for our Laguna Council 11236.
Worthy PGK Iggy Lopez-Alvarez is busy organizing and assigning duties so that our St. Patrick's Day Dinner is a successful event. The proceeds will go to the Tree of Life that you soon will be seeing mounted in the narthex.
We have a good supply of wheelchairs that are needing to go to veterans or family members of veterans, so if you know of a disabled veteran or family member, please let me know so we can make arrangements to help him/her out.
Brothers Knights, I want to remind you of your commitment to 24 hours of service per year that you agreed upon at the time you were initially interviewed as a Knights of Columbus candidate. As Worthy FN Terry Rees always says, "Many hands make light work." Just coming to the monthly meeting gets you to your target, or helping to sell tickets, helping to set up the Fr. Philip Wells Hall before an event gets you there, or helping at a Knights event also gets you to your target. It's not a huge investment of your time but you and the other Knights will make a difference.
We welcomed two new Knights at an Admission Degree (First Degree) Exemplifica-tion this past week and we will be welcoming 4 new Knights later this month. I am sure they are ready to set out on an exciting journey into Knighthood and explore fur-ther their Catholic faith.
When attending Mass or a Parish event, please wear your Knights badge to show others that YOU are proud to be a Knight.
God Bless You,
SK Rich Thompson
Grand Knight
I hope you had a grace-filled Advent and a
holy and merry Christmas! I enjoyed the rela-
tively slow pace in December, with plenty of
time to spend with my brother (escaping the
cold and snow in Denver) and sister. We
made a side trip to San Francisco, where we
spent the Christmas holiday with my niece
and her family.
January marks the mid-point of the Columbi-
an Year. For those of you wanting to advance
to full Knighthood in the order, there will be
Formation and Knighthood (2nd and 3rd ) Degree Exemplifications scheduled between
now and April. Watch the Laguna Knightline for details as they become available.
All 3rd Degree members are invited to advance to the Patriotic (4th ) Degree at the Patri-
otic Degree Exemplification scheduled for April 22 at the Doubletree Hotel in Sacra-
mento. Speaking of 4th Degree membership, Sir Knights not currently members of St.
John Paul II Assembly #3504 are invited to transfer their membership into the Assem-
bly.
Please remember to pay your dues current in both the Council and the Assembly if you
have not already done so. These dues help fund our day-to-day operations, and your
prompt payment saves the Council and Assembly the expense of following up with sec-
ond notices. It also shows your commitment to the ideals and programs of the Laguna
Council and the St. John Paul II Assembly.
We have two events scheduled in January. The Council Free Throw Competition will
be held January 22nd starting at 9:00 AM in the Hall. Kids will compete against others
in their age group and gender, and awards will be made to local Council winners. The
Council winners will advance to the District and Chapter competitions, the dates for
which have yet to be set.
The second event is the 13th Annual Walk for Life West Coast in San Francisco on Jan-
uary 21th. We are underwriting a portion of the cost for the busses that will transport
participants from Good Shepherd to the event. This is an important and fun event and I
hope many of our members will participate. Please contact Gary Hickman for more
information.
We have a busy schedule for the remaining Columbian Year. Thanks for your support
and hard work in making all our programs successful.
God Bless! Vivat Jesus!

2nd and 3rd Formation and Knighthood Degrees Exemplification:
I’m very pleased to announce the following Brother Knights have advanced to the 2nd
and 3rd (Formation and Knighthood) Degrees on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at
Devine Savior Parish in Orangevale, California. Congratulations to Jesus (Jess) Velas-
co Jr, Robert Graves, Tony Charles, Clovis Karam and Michael Martin!
1st Admission Degree Exemplification:
St. Joseph’s Council #7241 hosted a 1st Admission Degree exemplification ceremony
on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 7 pm. Our Council had two candidates exemplified:
Alan Rich and Frederick Pulido
Recruitment:
Remember, we still have time to reach our Council’s goal for Star Council. Our best
Recruiters are our own Brother Knights. We are still looking for a “Few Good Catho-
lic Men” to join the Largest Catholic Fraternal Organization. If any Brother Knight
knows of a prospective member, a friend, a co-worker, a relative, or a neighbor who
might be interested in joining the Knighthood, please make the contact. Give him the
New Form 100, and help them fill it out. Be sure to contact your Chancellor with the
completed form and submit it to him. The new Candidate will be contacted, and a home
interview will be scheduled with him and his family. Remember, you as a Recruiter,
can identify a potential member(s) to become a new Brother Knight. Don’t let the po-
tential member say “No one has Ever Asked me to Join”.

The Knights of Columbus of Good Shepherd Catholic Church are offering a Rosary Night of Prayer in honor of our Blessed Mother on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 6:30 PM in the Church.
This evening marks the third of four KofC sponsored Rosary services for the 2016-2017 Columbian year. We invite all Good Shepherd parishioners and all Brother Knights to attend.
We offer this Rosary Night to our Blessed Mother, the patroness of our order. We ask her to pray for us and ask that she bestow her blessings to us.
What a great opportunity for you to give thanks for blessings received, to pray for the sick in our parish family, or to pray for a special intention that you may have. Best of all, it gives us all an opportunity to pray the rosary together as a parish community. For more information contact SK Iggy Lopez-Alvarez at (916) 689-2428.

Color Corps
Beloved Color Corps Members,
The Patriotic (4th) Degree Exemplification Ceremony will be held April 22, 2017. The Northern Cali-fornia Color Corps Competition will be held during the Exemplification festivities. CCC Larry Navar-rette has sent out the Color Corps practice schedule to all Color Corps members and we need a firm commitment from ALL Color Corps Members to attend our scheduled training sessions.
At the present, we have enough time to produce a superior Color Corps Team with enough confidence to compete with other Assemblies, and become Number One in the State of California. Our Slogan this year is " Leave No Doubt."
If you are interested in joining our Color Corps, please call: CCC Larry Navarrette at 916 230-0369, WFN Dr. Terry Rees at 916 687-1266, or WSDM Tim Fukuda at 916 539-4811.
