Village Justly Destroyed

Just last week, a member of the local outskirt village of Quagoe instigated a fistfight and stole a handful of shiny copper beads. The merchant of whom this terrible crime was committed against reported the crime to the local guild head, Don Kuash, who informed the proper authorities. Not standing for any crime, the king mobilized a 200 men strong force, with which they brought the 50 member village to their knees. Only 12 men survived, incidentally, and will be made into a bull team dubbed the Quagoe tanners. To find their schedule, see the temple priest.

Golden Age?

Our powerful empire has entered a golden age, of which it will stay for eternity. Our brilliant kings and ingenious tacticians

have utterly annihilated our vile foes. After the major victory against the last remaining guerillas in the forest valleys, our empire has entered post-war production, and the economy is rising daily. What are we to do about this period of peace? Who will be our sacrifices, our bull teams? What will we use to keep the people in line? This is the first time that the Mighty Empire has defeated everything and began to prosper at this rate. All forecasts point to immediate doom.

Elder Priest Died

It was a sad day for all when Elder Priest Sho Tem plummeted to his death upon tripping down the central temples main staircase. Witnesses say it was an accident, but some hold firm that it was the up and coming priest Latepquo intention that the chief priest die. The cremation and bone crushing/dispersal ceremony will be held six kins (days) from now. Sho Tem always carried out the funerals, so there needs to be a new chief priest installed. Latepquo has expressed his intention to succeeding the old priest, and thus the malicious rumors of Latepquos involvement.

Zero- What is it?

Though the Mighty Mayan Empire is fabulous as it is strong, we have not really invented something of fundamental value. Until now, that is. As of last month, leading Mayan mathematicians have invented some unprecedented, marvelous concept. We Mayans have assigned a value to the absence of value that is now called zero. Many argue that they have known of such zero, like in 12.18.16.2.6 when there was zero grain, or like now there are zero enemies. The mathematicians stand by their discovery, believing that it will allow new, groundbreaking forms of math to evolve. Now no one can argue that the Mayans can wrap their minds around such an abstract concept. Also, the new star charts are available at any temple, complete with our updated cycling calendar. The movements of the planets for 50 years are listed on the main temples ceiling, after their recent update.

New Temple

A new temple was commissioned today, one that will depict our glorious and sacred sacrificial ceremonies. It will most likely be completed in 60 years. A master artisan will come from the city of Chitzen Itza to paint this magnificent work. Also, it will serve as large calendar. There will be 91 steps on each four stairways, one for each day in our year. Future generations will not forget how the rituals are done, and we can all enjoy the beautiful work.

Graineries Full

The new Graineries commissioned by the late Sho Tem have been filled to the brim, thanks to the latest in irrigation systems, a practiced used by the Mayans since we settled down. The gods are receiving twice as many offerings due to this wonderful blessing, and the working class is receiving a few more handfuls of grain than normal. In the next 20-day unial (month), we will trade some excess grain with the capital city of Chitzen Itza for jaguar pelts and luxury foods.

City Addition

A new addition to our glorious city has been planned out by royal engineers. This new section will feature a basic grid layout, and offer ant-like conformity for all of the workers. In the central area will be a wondrous square with a mighty ziggurat looming far higher than any surrounding buildings, or even the tall, tropical trees.

Temple on Schedule

The Temple of Kukulkan commissioned over 30 years ago is on schedule, projected to be completed within this decade. It is the largest one in this city, and over 20,000 huge clay blocks have already been used. As is tradition, the first sacrifice of the temple will be the second son of the architect who designed it. We all look forward to the completion of the temple, and will be holding seasonal sacrifices to please the gods of construction.

Minor Rebellion Quashed

There was a small rebellion in the working class yesterday, where the proletarians working on the Temple of Kukulkan actually refused to lift heavy bricks for hours on end in this tropical climate. The leaders of this horrendous act were made an example to the rest of the rebellion, backs skinned and drug around in the sand. They are now slowly dying on large pikes out in the main square. Upper class proletarian sympathizers were given a stern warning by the local priests before they foolishly stated their erroneous beliefs. Our Priests and Kings will not tolerate such weakness.

King to Step Down

The King has announced that he plans to step down from his office, as he is 66 years old, and almost on his deathbed. His son will perform the required blood sacrifice in 4 days, by which time he must find and capture an enemy to sacrifice, thus entering the lineage of the kings. It is important that he finds a sacrifice, because the timely appointment and decommissioning is necessary for the continuation of the universe.

New Bomb Invented

Our warrior class has fought with spears, knives, shields, pelt armor, and rocks for as long as the eldest can remember. But our wonderful King has, as his last act of kingship, unveiled a new means of inflicting pain upon our enemies. Flung by hand into a group of enemy soldiers, a hornets nest will explode with angry hornets, and sting mercilessly at the enemies. The King invites all of the noble class to come and see the first test of this in two days at the bull game.

Knowledge to be Written Down

The entire record of the Mayan history is to be written down on clay tablets. These clay tablets will be on display in the new temple, when it is completed. We are using the standard hieroglyphs to depict every event we know of, and many records of our life. The people of the future Mayan Empire will forever know of our time and history! In new related to the future, Priests are currently debating what will happen when our calendar resets itself to 13.0.0.0.0 (December 23 2012). Since our Universe was created on 13.0.0.0.0, some argue that it will end then also. Others feel that nothing will happen, or there will be peace finally. However, most feel that there will be a horrible end to life, such as the gods devouring everyone one by one, or animals suddenly turning violent and killing everything.
