Love and Union

“Who ran to help me when I fell, or kissed the place to make

it well? ....My mother.”

Love defines value: We are unable to love unless we

value ourselves and we only truly value that which we

love and this is why we must choose carefully what

we are going to love. One such primary choice is

between the living world and constructs of value. For

example, do we choose the land and its living

inhabitants or do we choose “property”? Do we

choose a person for who they are or what they can

“do” for us? But the most important choice is, do we

choose our self or our “image”?

In each case, we know the truth of what should be

valued, just as we know the body that carries us

through life is a wondrous living entity almost unto

itself, though the dominant construct says it is a

machine of assembled parts. Can one look at a baby

and honestly see a machine? When we see images

from space of our world and other ones, our heart

knows we are seeing a living system, not a machine.

When we see these things, we see life and we know it

is very valuable.

Loving is not possible without some level of love for

oneself. To love is to recognize the intrinsic value of

something and loving oneself is to see that within

oneself. This is always learned from being loved –

whether we come into contact with the love from the

Universe itself, or we are loved by another: When we

know we are valued by another for what and who we

are simply for being just that, we lose any false limits

on what we are capable of giving.

Mother’s Union with her Child

A popular saying is that God cannot be

present everywhere and so he created

mothers. The relationship between a mother

and a child is very special and that is as good

as truth.

A mother means the world to a child, it is she

who protects, nourishes, and bestows her

VALUES PROGRAM

Page 7: May

child with love and care. It is she who

sacrifices many things in life to give the best

to her children. Mother's day is that special

day that gives you the perfect opportunity to

shower your mom with your love and

affection. It gives you the opportunity to tell

your mother how much she means to you and

pamper her with generous gifts.

However, you need not spend a fortune and

buy expensive gifts for your mom. You can

make her day special with beautiful quotes,

poems, and loving words. Let her know how

special her love for you is, and acknowledge

all the pain and sacrifice, she took to raise

you the way you are. Thank her for her

unconditional love, for forgiving you when you

did something wrong, and held you when the

world around condemned you. Thank her for

being at your side when you needed her the

most.

Remember how she stayed awake at night to

protect you when you used to fall sick. Recall

all the good times you shared with your mom

and tell her how you cherish every moment of

your early days. If you run out of words or do

not know how to express your emotions, then

here are the lyrics of a famous poem for

mother's day titled "A mother's love"

beautifully written by Helen Steiner Rice.

Your mom will definitely cherish it and

appreciate your effort.

Technology

Aspects that are changing the user-technology relationship

Figures from the studio that has developed the firm of processors Intel, concludes that every day the daily habits directly relate to the use of technology, especially in young people and adults who can sacrifice everything but his mobile

In South America is where most photos and videos are shared

In Asia is where more games are played

In Africa is where most text messages are send

From the people Have turned their phones on during 24/7

What thing prefers to forget the people instead using their phones? There are several, but, according to circumstances, the smart phone users give more weight and value to the Web communication.

Page 9: May

The thousands of doors that technology has opened to humans are generating very

suggestive data about their behavior every day in different

environments and circumstan-ces.

Intel, the multinational computer

processor, presented a quantitative study, which gives

as main result the strong inclination of people to be always

with their intelligent devices.

40% of respondents said they never turn off the phone and

80% said they sleep with it every night. This is supported with

50% of those studied who claim they can send messages

blindfolded and write the chilly month sum of 3,330 SMS.

When data transmission is about, Americans spend about

three hours a day via Bluetooth and other file-sharing tools.

Under these results, the analyses are performed by

specialists according to the telephone industry growth.

Mobiles and Their Consequences

For many psychologists and psychiatrists, the abuse of technology not only creates dependency but also problems of communication and interaction.

The main advice I give is to

change the time of consumption of technology, particularly social networking and mobile chat.

Moreover, many families keep it "days without technology," especially on weekends to

encourage quality interaction.

You should not forget the need for quality rest and to do that, you have to put aside distractions such as the smartphone and the computer

“Shocking photos of the only man who can

touch a polar bear”

The Polar Bear Agee closes its jaws around the neck of Mark, in an amazing demonstration of how much you trust the huge bear. Abbot Mark Dumas is the only man in the world that can touch a polar bear. It is so much closeness, which is able to get into the pool with the animal 16 years of age and embrace it. Or put your head in its mouth without fear of being bitten.

The images were published by the Daily Mail, which reports that Mark, 60, and his wife Dawn, 49, of Abbotsford, British Columbia (BC), Canada, dedicated to training the largest land predator in the world to star in TV commercials-budget. She even appeared in movies such as "Alaska" in 1995, when he was only weeks old. With their incredibly intimate bond Agee even bear hugs owner Mark as she rears up on her hind legs to over seven feet. “If anwone elqe rpied rhiq rhew uosld end up as Agee's dinner, the only people in the whole world she likes are me and my wife. I have worked with bears in this way for over 40 years, so I can read Agee's body language and know how to behave safely around her. Agee has rules and we are always working inside rhoqe.” said Mark.

(Curiosities) “Why the polar bear loves you? “

Page 11: May

Mark and Dawn took Agee on when she was just eight weeks old. With links to Hollywood through previous work with animals, Mark was approached by director Fraser Heston - the son of screen legend Charlton - 16 years ago.

Mark and Dawn went through a lengthy application to show they had the facilities to care for her. After being approved they transported the tiny cub - seen here at their old family home in Mission, BC, just after her arrival - to Canada.

“She lited inqide osp home fop rhe fipqr few weeks and we hand-reared her, eventually a time came when she was so big we had to move her outside into her own enclosure. Now Agee spends her time living in her new enclosure on rented land near Mark and Dawn's home in Abbotsford, and on the road uopking on TV and film qerq.” At home, Mark enjoys 'play time' with hep. “Eapliep in rhe mopning qhe'q mope playful and relaxed and she lets me roll around with her. We wrestle for fun and sometimes we fall asleep on her grassy lawn together. It's a great way to unwind after a bad day.”

“She loteq hep uopk, rhew ape evrpemelw intelligent animals and you can see she gets enjoyment out of being stimulated through her work. She could never have lived wild so it's important to us that we keep her active and thinking. That's why I like swimming with her and playing on rhe laun.” In the evenings Agee is fed on mountains of protein-rich salmon, chicken or other meats, along with carbohydrates she gets from high-quality dog food and vitamin supplements. “In rhe uild qhe uosld be earing qeal bsr we can't buy that so we have to try and replicate a fat-rich diet, because they scavenge in the summer - when they are off the sea ice and on dry land - they hate tepw adaprable dierq.” Amazingly, Agee seems to have favorites between men and women. “She gerq tepw jealosq of orhep uomen talking to Mark, she's happy with me doing it but if any other women are aposnd qhe gerq tepw poqqeqqite of him.” said Dawn.

What Did She Say? Tips on Learning Reported Speech

Page 13: May

Reported Speech is a very

useful and substantive topic to

approach for advanced level

students. It is simply relaying

or repeating what another

person said. Sounds simple,

right?

Unfortunately, it is

complicated to introduce and

can be somewhat cumbersome

to devise natural ways to

practice it. Following these tips

on teaching reported speech

will benefit your students and

provide some clear guidelines

on how best to approach a

notoriously sticky grammar

point.

1. Grammar Nuances

To use reported speech, we are

in one instance having a

conversation or overhearing

something, and then repeating

it or reporting it to a third

party. In order to properly

report what was said, we have

to alter the tenses that were

used. Here is a basic

explanation:

If the reporting verb (like said)

is in the past, the reported

speech will also be in past

tense. The form is generally

one step back into the past

from the original. Example:

“Maria said the exam was

difficult.”

Quoted speech that is

changed to reported speech

changes tense according to

this rule: simple past, present

perfect, and past perfect all

must change to past perfect

for reported speech. Present

tense sometimes stays as

present tense if it is

immediately reported, but

often changes to past tense

if it is reported later.

Pronouns in quoted speech

must also be changed in

reported speech. If you are

having a conversation with

Page 14: May

John, and John says, “I am

hungry.” It is reported as this:

John says he is hungry.

2. Questions

Another thing to point out

about reported speech is that

forming questions can be a

little tricky. When reporting

questions, it is especially

important to pay attention to

sentence order. When

reporting yes /no questions

then you can create the

reported question using if.

When reporting questions

using question words (why,

where, when) use the question

word. Here are some examples:

Marla asked, "Do you want to

drive?" = Marla asked me if I

wanted to drive.

Kiko asked, “Did John go to

school?”= Kiko asked if John

has gone to school.

Dave asked, "Where did you

put the bag?" = Dave asked me

where I have put the bag.

3. Triangles And News

Triangles

This is always an interesting one to set-

up and there are a lot of ways in which

you can vary it to your needs. You have

three students: Student A is talking to

student B and Student C will be the

third party. Student B’s job will be to

listen to student A and turn to student C

and report what student A said. You can

come up with a number of scenarios if

you want to increase the practice and

turn the triangles into mini role plays. A

good topic is planning a party or outing

of some kind. Student A is the organizer

and calls student B and C on the phone

and reports what the other two students

have said. Another fun one is to do a

lesson on gossip and use reported speech

to show how it is that gossip can travel

so quickly, and also how the story will

change when the reporters report

incorrect information.

News Reporter

This is a good activity to do once the

students have gotten some amount of

exposure to reported speech. It takes

some creativity on the students’ part and

again, there are numerous ways in which

Page 15: May

you could set it up. One way is to have

them read a news story and report the

news to the class in a newscaster tone.

Another way could be to have a reporter

doing an interview on a particular topic.

For example student A’s house was

broken into and student B is the

newscaster there to get the story.

Student B will then report the story

back to the class. Students can do this

activity in small or large groups and then

report back after practicing. They could

also rotate around the room and each

pair gets a chance to report and

interview on multiple topics while

taking turns with their roles.

Page 16: May

In its present form, Mother's Day

was established by Anna Marie

Jarvis, with the help of Philadelphia

merchant John Wanamaker

following the death of her mother

Ann Jarvis on May 9, 1905. A small

service was held on May 12, 1907 in

the Andrew's Methodist Episcopal

Church in Grafton, West Virginia

where Anna's mother had been

teaching Sunday school. But the

first "official" service was on May 10,

1908 in the same church,

accompanied by a larger

ceremony in the Wanamaker

Auditorium in the Wanamaker's

store on Philadelphia. The next

year the day was reported to be

widely celebrated in New York.

Jarvis then campaigned to establish

Mother's Day first as a U.S. national

holiday and then later as an

international holiday. The holiday

was declared officially by the state

of West Virginia in 1910, and the rest

of states followed quickly. On May

8, 1914, the U.S. Congress passed a

law designating the second Sunday

in May as Mother's Day and

requesting a proclamation. On May

9, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson

issued a proclamation declaring the

first national Mother's Day as a day

for American citizens to show the

flag in honor of those mothers

whose sons had died in war.

In 1934, U.S. President Franklin D.

Roosevelt approved a stamp

commemorating the holiday.

Mother’s Day

Page 17: May

Mother's Day is celebrated to

honor all mothers and express

gratitude for the hardships they

bear in bringing up a child. Most

countries including US, Australia,

Canada and India celebrate

Mother’s Day on the second

Sunday of May. Mother’s Day

came into being due to the efforts

made by Ms. Julia Ward Howe and

Ms. Anna Jarvis. The Resolution for

having a dedicated Mother's Day

was signed by US President

Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914.

Since then people across the world

have been celebrating Mother’s

Day with joy and devotion.

One relationship which is always

with us is the one we share with

our mothers. They are our

guiding force and are

responsible for making us who

we are. Mothers also shape our

lives and our personalities and

crediting them for the same is

something one should do at

every opportunity.

Page 18: May

Mothers are everything for us

when we are small...our lives

revolve around her. For

everything that we need we call

mother. To protect us from all

perceivable dangers we want her

around us. To take us out we

hold her arms. To kiss away our

wounds we run to her. And for a

warm hug and love we look for

her. She is the focal point of our

lives, the greatest human being in

the world or should we say

divinity on earth. On the special

occasion of Mother’s Day pay

tribute to your mother - the

greatest blessing of God on you.

There is simply no way we can

ever really thank mother for all

she has done for us. She is the

one who will be awake all night

when we are sick. Praying to God

to make us well and be ever

ready to bear the pain that we

may be experiencing. She is the

one to wake up early in the

morning to make the nicest tiffin

and endure all our tantrums.

Mothers are the ones who would

forever complain that we are

not eating enough or not eating

right. They would cook all sorts

of things so that we are strong

and healthy. Mothers in fact,

worry more for our

examinations than we must. They

would take pains to complete

our school projects leaving all

other works behind while we play

around with friends or just while

away time watching movies.

Mothers are the one on whom

we put all the blame for our

failures. We would not hesitate

once to point her single faux

pas though she would not miss

even a slightest opportunity to

praise us. Isn't it tough to

imagine how she must have

borne our temper tantrums

when we were teenagers. And

how hard we must have made

her life by behaving so rude

and difficult. And yet she was

so astonishingly cool. It easy

for the kids to be so

demanding from parents,

Page 19: May

especially mothers as we take

her affection and care so much

for granted. Most often to the

extent of selfishness. Mother’s

Day is the right time to

apologize for all the troubles

that we gave to our moms,

without even realizing at most

times how troublesome we

must have been to her.

Mothers Day is the perfect day

to celebrate the joys of having

a mother. It is the time to

make amends for not being

able to spend quality time with

her. So turn your wrongs right

by making all efforts to give a

perfect Mother’s Day to your

mother. Think about her likes

and dislikes about gifts and

idea on celebration and act

accordingly.

Page 20: May

François Hollande defeated President

Nicolas Sarkozy on Sunday, becoming

the first Socialist elected president of

France since François Mitterrand. Mr.

Hollande campaigned on a gentler and

more inclusive France, but his victory

will also be seen as a challenge to the

German-dominated vision of

economic austerity as a way out of the

euro crisis.

Mr. Sarkozy became the latest

European leader to lose his post amid

economic upheaval and the first

French incumbent to be rejected since

1981.

In his five years in office, he propelled

France, and himself, into a more

central role in world affairs, rejoining

the NATO military command and

helping drive an international military

campaign in Libya. He also proved to

be a difficult but crucial ally of

Chancellor Angela Merkel of

Germany in their joint effort to

master the European debt and

currency crisis and save the

euro.

That project, however, received

multiple blows on Sunday,

when Greek voters sent their

own message against austerity.

They handed the two main

parties, both of which had

pledged to follow harsh

international bailout terms, significant

losses as they streamed to parties on

the far left and far right that have

opposed budget cuts. In the process,

voters cast into question the ability of

any party to form a government soon,

let alone continue with the austerity

program.

For their part, French voters may not

like belt-tightening, but both Mr.

Hollande and Mr. Sarkozy had

promised to balance the budget in the

next five years.

The balance between reducing the debt

and addressing popular anger is

proving complicated for Europeans,

and Mr. Hollande has said that he

intends to give “a new direction to

Europe,” demanding that a European

Union treaty limiting debt be

expanded to include measures to

produce economic growth.

Page 21: May

Domestically, he has promised to raise

taxes on big corporations and raise the

tax rate to 75 percent for those earning

more than one million euros a year.

Calling his victory “a fresh start,” Mr.

Hollande pronounced: “Austerity need

not be Europe’s fate.”

The vote was viewed domestically as a

rejection of Mr. Sarkozy and his

relentless effort to appeal to the voters

of the far-right National Front.

“I take the measure of the honor that’s

been given me and the challenge that

awaits me,” Mr. Hollande said before

cheering supporters in the central

French town of Tulle, which he

represents in Parliament.

Mr. Hollande’s victory was narrow but

undisputed. With 95 percent of the

vote counted, official results showed

him with 51.6 percent of the vote

while Mr. Sarkozy, of the center-right

Union for a Popular Movement, had

48.4 percent, The Associated Press

said.

Speaking earlier to party members,

Mr. Sarkozy said that he would not

lead the party into June’s legislative

elections and that now, “I become a

citizen among you.” He urged

supporters not to give in to division,

though, as he saw those elections as

winnable for the party. The French and

Greek elections were closely watched

in European capitals and particularly

in Berlin, where Ms. Merkel has led

the drive to cure the euro zone debt

and banking crisis with deep budget

cuts and caps on future spending. She

spoke on the telephone with Mr.

Hollande on Sunday night,

congratulating him on his victory in

the election, according to a statement

by her spokesman, Steffen Seibert.

Mr. Hollande has said for months that

his first trip will be to Berlin.

But Ms. Merkel herself was embroiled

in electoral politics on Sunday,

suffering setbacks in elections in the

state of Schleswig-Holstein, where her

party appeared to be losing its hold on

the state Parliament. With another

election coming May 13 in North

Rhine-Westphalia, Ms. Merkel is not

viewed as having much room

domestically to compromise on the

critical issues of inflation and debt

limits.

Page 23: May

Aloe has been well known for centuries

for its healing properties, and both oral

intake and topical dressings have been

documented to facilitate healing of any

kind of skin wound, burn, or scald - even

speeding recovery time after surgery.

Situations to try it on include blisters,

insect bites, rashes, sores, herpes,

urticaria, athlete's foot, fungus, vaginal

infections, conjunctivitis, sties, allergic

reactions, and dry skin. The raw plant is

best, but commercial preparations can

also be used, especially for taking orally,

as this plant tastes horrible. Other topical

uses include acne, sunburn, frostbite (it

appears to prevent decreased blood flow),

shingles, screening out x-ray radiation,

psoriasis, preventing scarring, rosacea,

warts, wrinkles from aging, and eczema.

Internally, aloe is showing real promise in

the fight against AIDS, and the virus has

become undetectable in some patients

who used it on a regular basis, due to its

immune system stimulant properties. It

also seems to help prevent opportunistic

infections in cases of HIV and AIDS. It

appears to be of help in cancer patients

(including lung cancer) by activating the

white blood cells and promoting growth

of non-cancerous cells. The National

Cancer Institute has included Aloe Vera

in their recommendations for increased

testing because of these apparent cancer

fighting properties. Taken orally, aloe

also appears to work on heartburn,

arthritis and rheumatism pain and asthma,

and studies have shown that it has an

effect on lowering blood sugar levels in

diabetics. Other situations in which it

appears to work when taken internally

include congestion, intestinal worms,

indigestion, stomach ulcers, colitis,

hemorrhoids, liver problems such as

cirrhosis and hepatitis, kidney infections,

urinary tract infections, prostate

problems, and as a general detoxifier.

Lastly, many people who take aloe

internally report just feeling better

overall, which is in and of itself

something of a testament to its

remarkable properties.

Commercially, aloe can be found in pills,

sprays, ointments, lotions, liquids, drinks,

jellies, and creams, to name a few of the

thousands of products available.

Unfortunately, the aloe industry is

virtually unregulated, and some products

that advertise aloe content actually have

little to none. Therefore, if you are

embarking on a regimen with aloe, you

should become an avid reader of

ingredi

ents.

How to use

aloe vera?

Page 24: May

Look

for

the word aloe to appear near the top of the

ingredient list first and foremost, then

below:

Sunburn treatments - follow the

guidelines 20% or more aloe

content

Creams & Ointments - 20% or

more aloe content

Juices - 95% or more aloe content

Beverages - 50% or more aloe

content

Drinks - 10% or more aloe content

Capsules - 5-10% or more aloe

content

As far as dosages are concerned, start

small and work your way up to a

therapeutic dose. Juices are a good way

to start, and pills are probably the worst

way to go with aloe. Aloe pulp is 95%

water, and if you consider the process of

drying this, then sticking it back together

into a pill form, you can see why pills are

probably not the best way to go. Also,

give your regimen time to work.

Sometimes it takes a couple of months for

you to see the real effects of aloe

treatments, so don't give up too soon.

Aloe is safe when used in moderation, but

there are a few contraindications. If you

have a heart problem and use any kind of

digitalis medication, consult your doctor

before using any aloe product internally,

as the interaction may cause irregular

heartbeat. Avoid aloe preparations if you

are pregnant, breast feeding, or

menstruating, as it can cause uterine

contractions.

The El Salvador national

beach soccer team represents

El Salvador in international

beach soccer competitions

and is controlled by the

Federación Salvadoreña de

Fútbol, the governing body

for football in El Salvador.

The team's first attempt at

qualification for the Beach Soccer

World Cup, came in 2007, when

they joined Mexico, Costa Rica and

the USA in the CONCACAF Beach

Soccer Championship.

Unfortunately, the team failed to

win a game and ultimately finished

last.

In April 2008, the team again

participated in the CONCACAF

Beach Soccer Championship, with

the hope of reaching their first

World Cup. On this occasion, the

team played above

expectations[who?], and although

they lost their opening game 4–2 to

CONCACAF powerhouse Mexico,

they went on to defeat raining

CONCACAF and CONMEBOL

Beach soccer champions the USA

(5–6), and Costa Rica (3–4) to

finish second in the group; this

allowed them to qualify for, along

with Mexico, the 2008 FIFA Beach

Soccer World Cup which was held

in France. Adding to the group's

achievements, two of its players

also picked up individual awards,

with Luis Rodas being named

Goalkeeper of the tournament, and

José Ruiz winning the Golden Boot

for scoring the most goals (six in

total).

In June 2009, the team again took

part of the CONCACAF

Championship, this time in the

2009 CONCACAF Beach Soccer

Championship. Due to having a

successful tournament the previous

year, they were ranked as

tournament favourites alongside

Mexico. The team reached the final,

again knocking out traditional

CONCACAF USA in the semi-final

round. They faced Costa Rica in the

Page 26: May

final who had defeated reigning

champions Mexico in the other

semi-final match. El Salvador,

contesting their second final in as

many years defeated Costa Rica 6–

3. This saw them crowned

CONCACAF Beach Soccer

Champions for the first time and

they also qualified for the FIFA

Beach Soccer World Cup.

Additional to this, the team again

received individual awards as

young up-and-coming player José

Portillo was named Goalkeeper of

the tournament, and José Ruiz again

won the Golden Boot with eight

goals from four matches.
