5to. Domingo de Pascua Hechos 6,1-7: Eligieron a siete hombres llenos de Espíritu

Juan 14,1-12: Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida
La comunidad cristiana se sustenta en «la piedra angular»:
Jesucristo ha vencido a la muerte y Él es el camino que nos lleva al
Padre. En la Primera Lectura vemos cómo la comunidad se organiza
mediante la distribución de las diversas tareas y servicios tales como
las obras de caridad, el ministerio de la palabra y del culto.
La primera carta de San Pedro que nos ha acompañado a lo
largo de estos cuatro domingos de Pascua nos ofrece, al igual que
los sinópticos, una interpretación cristológica del Salmo 118, 22: «la
piedra que los constructores desecharon se ha convertido en piedra
angular; ha sido la obra de Yahveh, una maravilla a nuestros ojos».
Para los creyentes se trata de una piedra preciosa, para los incrédulos
es piedra de tropiezo y de caída. En el Evangelio, Jesucristo se nos
muestra como «el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida». Es Él quien nos
conduce a la casa del Padre y nos revela nuestra altísima dignidad y
vocación: somos llamados a ser hijos en el único Hijo, Jesucristo.
El Evangelio de hoy comienza con una frase
verdaderamente consoladora para los momentos en los cuales
nuestra fe parece tambalear: «No se turbe vuestro corazón. Creéis
en Dios, creed también en mí». Fue pronunciada durante la última
cena con sus discípulos en el contexto de la despedida de Jesús antes
de su Pasión. Para entender el diálogo que se produce entre Jesús y
sus discípulos es necesario remontarse a los versículos precedentes
y saber de qué se está hablando. Jesús había anunciado su eminente
partida, entonces Pedro le pregunta: «Señor, ¿a dónde vas?». Esta
pregunta admite dos respuestas, ambas verdaderas. Una respuesta
es: «Voy allá de donde vine, es decir, al Padre», y de esta meta está
hablando Jesús. Y la otra respuesta es: «Voy a Jerusalén a morir en
la cruz», y esto es lo que entiende Pedro. La respuesta que Jesús da
a Pedro no aclara su destinación: «Adonde yo voy no puedes
seguirme ahora; me seguirás más tarde». Sigue, por lo tanto, en el
aire la pregunta hecha por Pedro.
En este contexto Jesús asegura a sus discípulos que Él se
les adelantará para ir a preparar un lugar para ellos; «luego -dice
Jesús- volveré y os tomaré conmigo, para que donde yo esté estéis
también vosotros». Entonces ya no habrá separaciones. Jesús ha
insinuado a sus apóstoles su destinación, diciéndoles que en la casa
de su Padre hay muchas mansiones. Y confía en que sus apóstoles,
a esta altura, le han entendido y ya saben el camino.
Por eso dice: «Adonde yo voy sabéis el camino». Pero
lamentablemente, los apóstoles, como algunos de nosotros, siguen
sin entender sus palabras y siguen pensando que él se dirigirá a algún
lugar de esta tierra. Habría sido mucho que el mismo Pedro, después
de la respuesta que recibió, insistiera en preguntar. Pero ahora lo
hace Tomás: «Señor, no sabemos a dónde vas, ¿cómo podemos
saber el camino?». La respuesta que Jesús da aclara todo. Es una de
las frases más importantes del Evangelio; indica el camino y la meta
final: «Yo soy el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida. Nadie va al Padre
sino por mí”.
Tras esta magnífica revelación el apóstol Felipe le hace
esta petición: «Señor, muéstranos al Padre y nos basta». Él está
convencido que Jesús lo puede hacer y por eso se anima a hacerle
este pedido. Pero, a pesar de esto, recibe un reproche de Jesús:
«¿Tanto tiempo hace que estoy con vosotros y no me conoces,
Felipe? El que me ha visto a mí, ha visto al Padre». El gran San
Agustín comenta: «Felipe deseaba conocer al Padre como si el Padre
fuera mejor que el Hijo. Y así demostraba no conocer tampoco al
Hijo, pues creía que podía haber algo mejor que Él». Su error es
pensar que hay algo más que Jesús, como si Jesús mismo no bastara.
Por eso Jesús le dice: «Aún no me conoces. Si me conocieras a mí,
conocerías también al Padre». Cristo basta, pues en Él está la
plenitud de la divinidad.
En dos ocasiones Jesús repite: «¿No crees que yo estoy en
el Padre y el Padre está en mí?… Creedme: yo estoy en el Padre y
el Padre está en mí». Y de esta manera, Jesús revela su propia
identidad: Él es el Hijo, posee la misma naturaleza divina que el
Padre, es de la misma sustancia que el Padre. El Hijo no es el Padre,
ni el Padre es el Hijo: son dos personas distintas; pero Dios es uno
solo. Por tanto, dirigiéndome al Hijo, es decir, a Cristo -que es el
Hijo Encarnado y hecho Hombre-, yo encuentro al mismo Dios que
dirigiéndome al Padre. Es más, Jesús es el único acceso al Padre,
según su declaración: «Nadie va al Padre sino por mí». Con la colaboración de Evangelio Dominical

A prayerful reflection to the Blessed Virgin Mary:
The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called
Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house
of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said,
“Hail, full of grace!! The Lord is with You.”
The Angel Gabriel was first to utter this prayer to Mary which
eventually became the “Hail Mary”, the prayer of the Rosary.
During May, the month of Our Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Ambrose
Catholic Community will have the opportunity to pray this powerful
prayer to Mary, Mother of God. Please plan on joining us in prayer
which will begin 20 minutes before all weekend Masses in May.

our annual essay contest.

your name on the essay, as they will be read anonymously. Please submit

We know that this is time consuming: responding to phone calls, making appointments for home visits, spending time with our Friends in Need and doing the follow-up to take care of each specific need. 5to. Domingo de Pascua Hechos 6,1-7: Eligieron a siete hombres llenos de Espíritu

Juan 14,1-12: Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida
La comunidad cristiana se sustenta en «la piedra angular»:
Jesucristo ha vencido a la muerte y Él es el camino que nos lleva al
Padre. En la Primera Lectura vemos cómo la comunidad se organiza
mediante la distribución de las diversas tareas y servicios tales como
las obras de caridad, el ministerio de la palabra y del culto.
La primera carta de San Pedro que nos ha acompañado a lo
largo de estos cuatro domingos de Pascua nos ofrece, al igual que
los sinópticos, una interpretación cristológica del Salmo 118, 22: «la
piedra que los constructores desecharon se ha convertido en piedra
angular; ha sido la obra de Yahveh, una maravilla a nuestros ojos».
Para los creyentes se trata de una piedra preciosa, para los incrédulos
es piedra de tropiezo y de caída. En el Evangelio, Jesucristo se nos
muestra como «el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida». Es Él quien nos
conduce a la casa del Padre y nos revela nuestra altísima dignidad y
vocación: somos llamados a ser hijos en el único Hijo, Jesucristo.
El Evangelio de hoy comienza con una frase
verdaderamente consoladora para los momentos en los cuales
nuestra fe parece tambalear: «No se turbe vuestro corazón. Creéis
en Dios, creed también en mí». Fue pronunciada durante la última
cena con sus discípulos en el contexto de la despedida de Jesús antes
de su Pasión. Para entender el diálogo que se produce entre Jesús y
sus discípulos es necesario remontarse a los versículos precedentes
y saber de qué se está hablando. Jesús había anunciado su eminente
partida, entonces Pedro le pregunta: «Señor, ¿a dónde vas?». Esta
pregunta admite dos respuestas, ambas verdaderas. Una respuesta
es: «Voy allá de donde vine, es decir, al Padre», y de esta meta está
hablando Jesús. Y la otra respuesta es: «Voy a Jerusalén a morir en
la cruz», y esto es lo que entiende Pedro. La respuesta que Jesús da
a Pedro no aclara su destinación: «Adonde yo voy no puedes
seguirme ahora; me seguirás más tarde». Sigue, por lo tanto, en el
aire la pregunta hecha por Pedro.
En este contexto Jesús asegura a sus discípulos que Él se
les adelantará para ir a preparar un lugar para ellos; «luego -dice
Jesús- volveré y os tomaré conmigo, para que donde yo esté estéis
también vosotros». Entonces ya no habrá separaciones. Jesús ha
insinuado a sus apóstoles su destinación, diciéndoles que en la casa
de su Padre hay muchas mansiones. Y confía en que sus apóstoles,
a esta altura, le han entendido y ya saben el camino.
Por eso dice: «Adonde yo voy sabéis el camino». Pero
lamentablemente, los apóstoles, como algunos de nosotros, siguen
sin entender sus palabras y siguen pensando que él se dirigirá a algún
lugar de esta tierra. Habría sido mucho que el mismo Pedro, después
de la respuesta que recibió, insistiera en preguntar. Pero ahora lo
hace Tomás: «Señor, no sabemos a dónde vas, ¿cómo podemos
saber el camino?». La respuesta que Jesús da aclara todo. Es una de
las frases más importantes del Evangelio; indica el camino y la meta
final: «Yo soy el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida. Nadie va al Padre
sino por mí”.
Tras esta magnífica revelación el apóstol Felipe le hace
esta petición: «Señor, muéstranos al Padre y nos basta». Él está
convencido que Jesús lo puede hacer y por eso se anima a hacerle
este pedido. Pero, a pesar de esto, recibe un reproche de Jesús:
«¿Tanto tiempo hace que estoy con vosotros y no me conoces,
Felipe? El que me ha visto a mí, ha visto al Padre». El gran San
Agustín comenta: «Felipe deseaba conocer al Padre como si el Padre
fuera mejor que el Hijo. Y así demostraba no conocer tampoco al
Hijo, pues creía que podía haber algo mejor que Él». Su error es
pensar que hay algo más que Jesús, como si Jesús mismo no bastara.
Por eso Jesús le dice: «Aún no me conoces. Si me conocieras a mí,
conocerías también al Padre». Cristo basta, pues en Él está la
plenitud de la divinidad.
En dos ocasiones Jesús repite: «¿No crees que yo estoy en
el Padre y el Padre está en mí?… Creedme: yo estoy en el Padre y
el Padre está en mí». Y de esta manera, Jesús revela su propia
identidad: Él es el Hijo, posee la misma naturaleza divina que el
Padre, es de la misma sustancia que el Padre. El Hijo no es el Padre,
ni el Padre es el Hijo: son dos personas distintas; pero Dios es uno
solo. Por tanto, dirigiéndome al Hijo, es decir, a Cristo -que es el
Hijo Encarnado y hecho Hombre-, yo encuentro al mismo Dios que
dirigiéndome al Padre. Es más, Jesús es el único acceso al Padre,
según su declaración: «Nadie va al Padre sino por mí». Con la colaboración de Evangelio Dominical
