Explanation of Aerification of Greens for 2018 We started our greens aerification program some 6 years ago with the goal of getting a lot more sand in the green profile. While the program
has allowed for more sand in the greens we are still behind in the amount of sand. This being said we again plan on an aggressive
aerification for 2018. We will be pulling ½ inch plugs (the big holes) and inserting sand in the holes in late May which will get a good bit of sand below the surface. As well, we usually do a solid tine aerification in late July which allows the greens to breath only . This year we have decided
to again pull1/2 plugs (the big holes) in late July and insert sand. This will allow more sand in the profile and help the overall greens health.
Thank you all for your patience as we improve the course!!
This will take place on May 29th The Golf Course Will Be closed
all day for aerification

News from the Grounds April is gone and I am glad to see it go! Because of the COLD April , we are currently at least three
weeks behind on growing conditions. This first week of May is looking much better with nights in the
50’s and 60’s and day time highs reaching into the 80’s, this is the weather we are looking for to get the
grass growing. With that being said we have put out our annual rough and fairway fertilizer this past
week. this with good weather will get some activity working in the soil and grass. We have also put out
our second fertilizer app for greens and we are hopeful to verti-cut greens next week along with,
topdressing and dragging. We are spraying weeds in the rough areas and among the trees between cart
paths. We have received all our new equipment with the rough mower sowing up this past Monday; we
hope to have that mower in action soon. As everyone has probably noticed we finished our sod on 7
and the rest of behind the green aggressive watering has been implemented to keep these areas moist
and allow rooting, I hope we can be playing these areas soon. As always we look forward to seeing you
on the course.

Rule of the Month
Here is one example of how the rules for 2019 will change!!
In 2019 - Under Rule 13.1d, there will no longer be a penalty if a player (or opponent) accidentally causes the player’s ball to move on the putting green.
The substance of this Rule change has already been implemented as of 1 January 2017 by authorizing Committees to adopt a Local Rule that eliminates the penalty for accidentally moving a ball on the putting green.
Reasons for Change:
The shape, slope and condition of many putting greens today increase the chances that a ball at rest on the putting green might move, and it can be difficult to determine whether a player caused the ball to move or whether the ball was moved by wind or other natural causes.
When a ball moves while the player is doing nothing more than taking normal actions to prepare for a stroke, it can seem unfair for the player to be penalized.
Most “ball moved” situations occur on the putting green, involve minimal movement of the ball, frequently occur when the player is taking reasonable actions to prepare for a stroke and the ball can be easily replaced.
These considerations are not the same when the ball lies off the putting green, and so the penalty will continue to apply (with exceptions, such as accidentally moving a ball during search) to a player or opponent in those circumstances to reinforce the principle that the ball should be played as it lies and that players should continue to exercise care when near to a ball in play.
