Think about: Why did the girl and her father have to be so quiet on their walk?

After listening to the story think about if the story was fiction or nonfiction. (Remember Fiction books

tell a story that is made up by the author. A Nonfiction book give you information that you can learn

about something or someone.)

Writing

*Make a list of all the sounds the girl heard on her walk in each section of the circle. Write some of the

describing words (Adjectives) she used to describe what she heard in each.

A suffix is an attachment that comes at the end of a word and it changes the meaning of the word.

*Review your sight words by playing a game. Sight Word Walk. Put all your sight word flash cards on the

floor spread out around your house. As you land on a sight word said it and move to another sight word.

You can also practice using them in sentences. You can also use your old sight words from previous weeks.

This is a good review!!

*Have a parent give you a practice spelling and sight word test.

Art

*Art Project (Optional) You will need Markers, and a clear piece of paper such as a clear sleeve or a

laminating sheet. You could even use saran wrap. Color a design on the clear sheet with the markers.

Then tape the clear colored sheet in the window with lots of light coming through. It should reflect on

other objects like a stained-glass window. See examples below.

Directions: Make a list of sounds the girl and her father heard on their listening walk. Write adjectives that she used to describe her walk. Cut slits on each line of the circle. Take a walk outside and fold down each sound as you hear it outside. See if you can hear all the sounds the little girl heard in the book.

How to See Sound

Sounds are all around. Sounds are inside and outside. Sounds can be loud or soft. Sound can make things vibrate, or move.

You can hear sounds, but can you see them? Yes! Try this to see how sounds can make things move.

First, tape a piece of thread onto the speaker of a radio. Let the thread hang down in front of the speaker. Next, turn on the radio. Watch the thread carefully.

Does the sound make the thread move? If not, turn up the volume to make the sound louder. The sound from the speaker should make the thread move.

Questions:
