Thank you from Fr. Dan

I have been overwhelmed by the love, kindness and support that all of you have lavished on me for

my 25th Anniversary celebration! At all the Masses your congratulations and well wishes were greatly

appreciated. Last Sunday was an event I will cherish…connecting with relatives and friends with which I

shared many wonderful memories and my new friends from the St. John Neumann community that have

welcomed me warmly over the past year and who I am looking forward to getting to know even

better. Thank you for sharing with me this most momentous and sacred event in my life either through

your personal congratulations, presence, a card, a gift, an e-mail, telephone call, or other mode of

communication—each is special to me. If you came to the reception and I was not able to talk with you,

thank you for your understanding. It truly was a wonderful gathering.

As most special events, I know this one took much planning and effort on the parts of many people

both in the parish and associated with it. Therefore, I would like to recognize the people or companies who

were involved with any aspect of assistance with this event and extend my heartfelt thanks for their efforts

on my behalf. Please forgive me if I have forgotten anyone.

Angela Richards for overseeing the whole shebang!

It is important for you to tell the staff on your floor that you want your parish notified about your admission. This will enable our parish nurse/pastoral staff to contact you. You will also be able to get Holy Communion regularly while you are in the hospital if the Pastoral Office has you on their list.

Why Do Catholics Do That: Intercession? We pray to the Lord. Lord, hear our prayer. At every Mass the Church prays for a few things in particular: for the Church around the world, for those in authority, for those experiencing difficulties, for the needs of the community, and for those who have died. We pray for one another because prayer is powerful. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines prayer as “the elevation of the mind and heart to God in praise of His glory,” as “a petition made to God for some desired good, or in thanksgiving for a good received, or in intercessional for others before God,” explaining that “through prayer the Christian experiences a communion with God through Christ in the Church” (para. 2559-2565). When we pray, we offer something to God – adoration, praise, sorrow, thanks, and/or petition. Often we offer our needs or the needs of another to God, which has its roots in the Bible. The story of the Centurion’s servant (Luke 7:1-10) or the Virgin Mary’s request at the Wedding Feast of Cana (John 2:1-12) are two of many examples of one person asking Jesus for something on behalf of another. St. James even says in James 5:16 that healing will happen when we pray for one another. “The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful,” says James. God hears our prayers, He is not deaf. He always answers our prayers, sometimes in ways we do not expect. There are many things He waits for us to ask for – Lord, hear our prayers!
