Tulip Bulb Time! Next Friday, May 29, COD Cares is reserving 5,000 bulbs dug up from our gardens for replanting at Little Friends in Naperville at a later date. Staff and students are invited to help prepare these bulbs for replanting May 29 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the CMC. The rest of the bulbs are for the taking (please bring a bag). Stephanie Quirk North Central College Outstanding Alumni College of DuPage Student Activities Coordinator Stephanie Quirk recently received the Outstanding Alumni Award from North Central College. The Outstanding Alumni Award is presented annually to one or more alumni who have excelled in their

careers and have demonstrated service to the community and to North Central College. Read More

Welding Wizard College of DuPage welding student Martin Zavala (above) recently received some unexpected hands-on training when the College’s Facilities department found a crack in one of their vehicle’s aluminum lift gates. Looking to turn the discovery into a learning experience, Welding instructor David Ellis coached Zavala through the repair, which included a demonstration of Zavala’s advanced skills for students in an introductory course. Ntwanano “Wendy” Mabasa (left), Anas Mohammed and Liza Yulizar are three of 15 international students who participated in the U.S. State Department’s Community College Initiative Program at COD. Administered by Northern Virginia Community College, the CCI Program provides underserved and underrepresented students from around the world with full scholarships that cover housing, tuition and a monthly stipend for one academic year of study in community colleges. College of DuPage is part of a consortium that consists of nine community colleges across the country, with COD the only participating school located in the Midwest. “The program combines higher education with multicultural exchange and international education,” said Nicole Spizzirri, CCI Program Coordinator at COD. “This is an incredible cultural exchange.” Read More

College of DuPage Vice President for Student Services Earl Dowling congratulates recent graduate Paolo Mazza during the May 14 Board of Trustees meeting. Mazza and fellow graduate Omar Escamilla were named to the 2015 All-Illinois Academic Team. Mazza, who graduated COD with an Associates of Arts degree and a 3.8 GPA, will attend DePaul University this fall to study organizational communication and business. He has been involved with the College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and interned with Disney through the Disney College Program. Escamilla, who was recently named a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar, has been a member of the College’s Student Leadership Council, Campus Crusade for Christ, Latino Ethnic Awareness Association, Philosophy Club and Phi Theta Kappa. He also served as Student Trustee for the 2014-2015 academic year. Escamilla will attend DePaul University this fall to study organizational communication.

Three Hundred Guests ‘Exposed’ An estimated 300 guests turned out to view the works of College of DuPage Photography students at “Exposed,” the Photography program’s inaugural student showcase.
