1 May 2020 Jay Grave Senior Pastor (985) 727-9200 [email protected] Grace to you and Peace, Friends, we are entering into a new month of our corona-crisis. Everywhere you look there are uncertainties, questions and anxi- ety. Tensions and emotions run high as we all wonder what we are to do. Some, just cant bear to stay at home, others feel defi- ant concerning liberties, still others arent sure if they can provide basic resources without jobs or with closed businesses, and then there are some who want to shrink away, and wait this all outI am not sure which of these best describes you. I tend to move from one group to the next as the days pass. One thing I know is that in times of crisis, I want simple and direct steps. I need Elizabeth to say something like, Jay, put the blue casserole dish in the over, at 350 degrees at 4pm. Set a time for 1 hour.Things like that. I need straight-forward. I want clear. On Easter, I preached about how, after experiencing my first earthquake, I was shook. The experience changed me. I started to see the world differently. My life was also changed when I gave my life to Christ. No longer were the scorecards of my youth valid. No longer could I ignore injustices of the world. My whole life became one of living out the teachings of Jesus in very real awareness of my own sinfulness and my own need for daily grace. As a new Christian, I needed clear steps. Discipleship. My world was in the midst of a great change. I had been shaken. In the month of May, Hosanna continues its SHOOKseries. We will continue to gather online for worship. We are starting to get this figured out. Please Share the services on your social media and like/invite your friends to worship with you (virtually, of course). The SHOOKseries will continue to provide bite size pieces to grow your faith life in these strange days. More oppor- tunities, including an evening Bible study are in the works to add to our online campus. At the Hosanna campus, small socially-distanced groups of volunteers and working like mad. When we return to together you will be greeted by new Crosses on the Hwy 190. Drive by if you can and see them now! Bob and Carl are working diligently on returning our stained glass window to new glory in our sanctuary. This work should be completed in the next few weeks! New flooring in the sanctuary will be installed early this month, thanks to Phyllis, Ron, George and the entire Revamp team. The fel- lowship hall is being painted, even as I type! Thanks Teresa, Ashley, Jen, and others! You wont believe how much bigger and brighter it is with new white walls! We will gather together again in a shiny new space. Thanks to all the hard work of so many! Steve and Pam and there helpers continue to orchestrate a spectacular feeding ministry during this crisis. Almost 500 free meals on Monday and another 300 on Wednesday are being prepared and shared from our Hosanna kitchen. Jesus said, Feedand we are taking that seriously. It just warms my heart to see our congregation serving those folks who need to most help in this time. We are thriving in the midst of crisis as we focus on Jesus clear mandates. Love. Feed. Share. This newsletter will share other information about work continuing during our corona-crisis. I invite you to ask God to show you where you connect. Perhaps your next-right-stepis to receive a gift of ministry, maybe you are able to swing a hammer or a spatula or paint brush, maybe you have a financial gift to offer, or maybe your best step today is one of prayer. Friends, I cant wait till we can safely worship in person again. God Bless, Pastor Jay

For the next four weeks, Pastor Jay will be sharing a message series called ‘SHOOK: What do I do now’. Let’s grow through this together!

As we continue to socially distance for the health and safety of all those around us, it can be difficult to meet in groups. Some small groups are meeting via Zoom and FaceTime while other groups are visiting via telephone check-ins. I truly appreciate all the groups who have continued to stay in contact during these trying times! If your group has taken a break during the quarantine, rest assured that you remain in our prayers.

I encourage you to use this strange opportunity to dig deeper into your personal devotional and bible study. As Pas-tor Jay continues his sermon themes, I will provide online opportunities for you to take the theme to the next step.

Watch for emails and posts with corresponding studies that we can continue to be #TogetherApart.

Again, thank you to all the participants of the Spiritual Growth Campaign and I look forward to seeing you all in per-son when it is safe!

Blessings Elizabeth Grave Small Groups Coordinator

Church Council See end of the Newsletter for the Church council meeting minutes.

Hello Hosanna Family, friends and hopefully new friends. During this time of uncertainty is a good time to turn to Christ. Actually, there is never a time NOT to turn to Christ. But you may find your prayers a little longer of late. I know you are isolated and for a lot of you; financially unsure. But hang in there, because it will get better. Keep on praying. The church has not been still during this time. Especially the worship area. As you have noticed we are streaming online on Facebook (FB) for our Sunday Service. Each week the FB crew gets better and better. They had to get the audio, visual, and music in sync and they have done a fabulous job in doing that. There are other things being done as well. Right before the Coronavirus crisis the stage area had been increased. This will allow us to move things around to provide a better musical experience. The Fellowship Hall is being painted. It will be a brighter room when completed. And … by the time you return to Hosanna, you will see a new flooring. We shall see who spills the first cup of coffee. A lot of you will remember the circular stain glass that we had in an outside wall in the previous church on Highway 190 near the Lakeview Hospital. It is being resurrected, however, not in the circular form. I know you miss the big cross that was behind the alter until we painted. The stain glass will be replacing the cross. Instead of being circular it is a rectangle. It is going to look really good. It will be placed in the wall and will be back lighted. You will need to thank Carl Hilt for restoring the stain glass, and Bob Busfield for the frame. By the time it is done there will be some carpenters to thank as well. Some of the things happening during the Coronavirus will probably go away, some will not. The times they are changing. I believe we will be changing as well. We need to address these changes when we all get back together. It will be an interesting time. It will be great to get back together. I do not know about you, but I sure miss my hugs! God Bless you all. George Michell – Worship Purpose Council Member

Join us in celebrating our graduates! Graduation from any grade level always involves special traditions that our students spend many years looking forward to. Because of the global pandemic, many of those traditions have been lost, rescheduled, or altered in some way – even our typi-cal baccalaureate service has been pushed back. Although a simple newsletter an-nouncement won't be able to makeup for those lost traditions, I hope that each and every one of our graduates knows how proud we are of all their accomplishments. I have a feeling that the Class of 2020 is going to do some great things!

Hosanna Lutheran Church Council Meeting March 15, 2020

Pastor Jay called the meeting to order at 12:35pm and opened with prayer. First order of business was the Election of Officers and Appointment of Purpose Area Chair positions for the new year after an explanation of the job duties for each position. After discussion, the following was decided for 2020-2021 Council: Executive Council President - Teresa Abram Vice President - Sarah Kezar Treasurer - Doug Burbank Secretary - Sandy Nieto Purpose Areas Worship - George Michell Fellowship - Kim Dauzat-Thompson Ministry - Steve Beene Discipleship - Ashley Burbank Evangelism - Rob Rhea Sarah Kezar made a motion to accept the above individuals for each position for the 2020-2021 Council. Rob Rhea made the second. It was decided that we will take a picture of our new council at our next meeting in April. COVID-19 Discussion Sarah Kezar proposed that with the present circumstances and uncertainty related to this virus, we have an opportunity to ex-pand the ways that we reach our audience. By continuing to meet, we put certain members at risk for contracting the virus. We can do God’s work safely by developing a network to check on our members to ensure they are safe and find out if they need anything. Discussion ensued about the possibility of putting together a type of phone tree to reach all of our members and regular attend-ers. Those that will make the calls will be all members of the council, Pastor Jay, Elizabeth, Katie, Erin and small group lead-ers. Pastor Jay will work with Grace to develop the list for each caller. Small group leaders will call the people in their groups. The rest of the congregation will be divided up for everyone else to call. Grace will send out an email blast to let everyone know that we will be calling. She will ask if anyone would like to volunteer to help with any needs that arise for our members and regular attenders. During the meeting, using Google documents, Teresa came up with a script that we can use when calling each person. Sarah edited the script and they sent to Pastor to add a prayer. This will give us a guide when we make our calls each week. As we find out about any special needs, we will contact Grace who will keep the master list of who needs what. She will then find a volunteer to fill that need. This process might change as we go along. We’ll see how it works. Pastor will let Marilyn Boudreaux know what we are doing and maybe the Preschool teachers could do the same thing for the families of the kids they teach. Elizabeth will call the Small Group Leaders and ask them to call the members in their small groups. We should have a list of names to call by Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Discipleship/Outreach Opportunity Erin is working with the families in our church with small children to make cards that can be brought to nursing home resi-dents. Cards can be made at home and dropped off at church. Erin should contact the nursing homes first and make sure that they can accept the cards. Ashley should follow up with Erin to check on progress. Social Media at Hosanna Lenten Devotionals are shown live on Facebook on Wednesday and Friday evenings at 7pm. Pastor said we had 233 views of our Sunday Morning March 15th Worship Service. For the time being, we will continue to have Sunday morning services like we did today, but will practice the social distancing, using hand sanitizer, etc. We will continue to monitor the situation and make changes as necessary. We can always just live stream the worship service if meeting at church physically is not recommended. Church Cleaning TCB Cleaning Company cleans the church twice per week. Now that the Preschool is not meeting, they will perform a deep cleaning similar to the summer cleaning. For the rest of the church, they come on Thursday or Friday night which is after the big AA meeting and gets us ready for Sunday. Then, they come on Monday or Tuesday night which would be after Hosanna Hot Meals. Continued on next page

Minutes submitted by: Sandy Nieto

Church Council Meeting March 15, 2020 Continued: Hosanna Hot Meals The plan for Monday, March 16 is to prepare plate dinners that can be picked up and the team plans to bring some dinners to clients. We are also looking into an exciting possibility of teaming up with Pam Makay. She leads the God’s Unchanging Hands Feeding Ministry and prepares 300 meals per week and along with four volunteers, delivers the meals to the clients. She has out-grown the kitchen she is currently using and could possibly use the Hosanna kitchen. Next Council Meeting/Upcoming Dates: April 6, 2020 - 7pm Executive Council April 20, 2020 - 7pm Church Council About one week before the council meeting, Janice sends an email reminder and report format for each council member to sub-mit their Council Report. June 28, 2020 - Council Vision Retreat Teresa should check with Ginny Sirera to ensure our bylaws are changed with the recommended revisions for the election of po-sitions. We would vote on the changes which would go into effect for the next council year. Rob Rhea made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:05pm. George Michell made the second.
