NOTICE FROM THE EDITOR
BIRTHDAYS
FOUND AN OLD FRIENDShe was one of the tallest girls in school, and he was one of the
shortest boys when they attended The Sarah Greenwood School,
and the Oliver Wendall Holmes JHS. Nevertheless they were of
the same neighborhood, and they were classmates for those several
years.
They went to different high schools, and then on to college. He
went to MIT. She went to Boston State College. He got a Master’s
at Northeastern. She got a Master’s at Boston State. He was an
Electrical Engineer. She taught Foreign Languages. He worked
for several companies in various places. She taught in Boston.
He married a girl from Revere, and lived and worked in Europe for
a time. She traveled with a friend (but did not cross paths with her
former classmate). She returned from abroad, married a man from
New York, had a daughter and then a son, and divorced a bit later.
Several years later, she met Bob Goldstein, who was raised on
Wellington Hill Street in Mattapan, in the 30’s and early 40’s, with
his siblings, Harold, Gene and Harriet.
He got an MBA from Stanford. She got a CAGS (Certificate of Ad-
vanced Graduate Studies) from Northeastern.
He and his wife moved to California. He retired very young, skied
played golf but mostly played baseball. He continued to play and
now is the oldest in his Senior League team, but still throws a
snappy ball and is no pushover for the younger guys who think they
can get one past him!
She lived in Danvers (what girl from Dorchester moves to Dan-
vers?) Then she and Bob retired to Florida, where she plays Mah
Jong and Canasta.
Many years passed, but one day she read a message in the FFA
Newsletter. It was from Sarah Rothman wondering if anyone re-
membered her from Dorchester, or the J.E.B. HS. And if not her,
perhaps her brother Joel. She wondered could it be the Joel from
her childhood? So she sent a letter to Sarah, via the FFA. Sure
enough, it was he.
Over the past couple of years they have emailed back and forth,
catching up with one anothers lives. A couple of weeks ago he was
attending The Red Sox Fantasy Camp in FT. Myers, on the other
side of Florida, from where she lives in Boynton Beach. Neverthe-
less, it was close enough, so after 60 plus years,. Joel Weinstein
(his wife Bonni was in CA), and Rhoda (Epstein) and her husband
Bob Goldstein had a sweet and happy reunion in the little town of
Clewiston. Life takes us down many roads, but it is always nice to
see old friends from the neighborhood.
MAZEL TOV TOLois (Greenwald) Evans of Delray Beach, Fl is proud to announce
her grandson Zach Evans son of Pam and Wayne Evans of Parkland,
FL, has graduated from Florida Atlantic University.

Raskind of Needham Hgts, MA. A September wedding is planned.
Loretta (Averbuck) and Mel Chandler of Boca Raton are pleased
and proud to honor the recent engagement of our great niece, Erica
Rose Melito to Arthur Meserjian. Erica is the granddaughter of our
beloved sister, the late Ruthe (Averbuck) Braun.
Dottie (Williams) & Gerry Rosenberg of Boynton Beach, Fl are
proud of their twin grandsons, Max & Alex on their performance at
Carnagie Hall, they are the sons of Harriet & Andy Fink of Park-
land, Fl, also celebrating in New York were sons David and Steven
and grandchildren Jackie, Josh and Scott Rosenberg.
Gloria (Kaplan) and Murray Pascar of Deerfield Beach, Fl would
like to celebrate the accomplishments of their grandchildren. Jes-
sica (Adler) received her Juris Doctor degree from UMass Dart-
mouth, passed the bar exam, and is now a practicing lawyer In MA.

Irving (Sonny) Weiner passed away on Jan. 10th, 2018…we all miss
him. He was always kind, happy and loads of fun and was always
ready to discuss the good old day. He loved telling the stories about
Franklin Field and the famous wall during the Jewish Holidays, as
well as Nantucket tales about the rope walk and the crazy times we
all had on the island and about the many trips and adventures we all
cherished. His wife Laurie heard these stories a million times but was
kind enough to allow Sonny and the guys relate the stories again and
again. He and Laurie were always the best of hosts at their homes, as
I said earlier, we will always think about him. MAY HE REST IN
PEACE. - David Kline of Washington, DC
