Trinity In Action May 2016 - Pastor Chris Singer Last month, we welcomed over 60 new people into membership here at Trinity Klein! It was so exciting for me to spend time introducing them to some of the core teachings of discipleship as they prepared to stand up publicly and profess their faith. ey did so, and we welcomed them to the “team” here at Trinity Klein. Team? Yes, our team. I believe the adjective fits many aspects of our work together in Mission and Vision! Maybe it’s just the coach in me? I do love coaching basketball. I have coached since I was a sophomore in high school. One thing I always enjoy is learning from other coaches’ philosophy. When I saw that Coach Krzyzewski had written a book about his experience coaching the 2008 USA Olympic Gold Medal basketball team, I downloaded it and got to reading. It didn’t disappoint. Coach K writes, “In developing teams, I don’t believe in rules. I believe in standards. Rules don’t promote teamwork, standards do. Rules are issued by a leader to a group, and the group can either follow those rules or break them. When something is presented as a rule, you can’t own it. You can’t live it. Standards, on the other hand, are lived. is is what we do all the time. ese are the things for which we hold one another accountable.” (- Excerpt From: Mike Krzyzewski & Jamie K. Spatola. “e Gold Standard.”) Maybe you’re already seeing what I see when I apply this here at Trinity. But if not … let me explain. One such “rule” we have here at Trinity is in regards to worship attendance for those members receiving a tuition discount for their children attending school here or at Concordia. In order to receive a tuition discount, the rule states that at least one parent and the student must attend 67% of worship services here at Trinity. e heart of this rule is to allow the attender to receive God’s means of grace through the preaching of the word and the sacraments. While its intention is Gospel-driven and meant for well-being, I am still amazed at how many still try and keep the minimum amount being required. What is heartbreaking to me are those families who attend while needing the discount, but once their student is no longer attending school here or at Concordia they never return to worship. If you compare this “rule” to our “standard” you see that the rule falls way short by Trinity Klein’s standards. Our standard for worship is WEEKLY WORSHIP. is is the standard we live by according to God’s Word and enabled by His grace. is standard is something that each of us can own and practice. As I have oſten said, “Worship is a GET TO kind of thing!” Heb. 10:25 encourages us to remain focused on this standard as it encourages us to not “…give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another - and all the more as we see the Day approaching.” e benefits to such standards are not just eternally reaching, they also provide daily and weekly love and support, strength and encouragement. Membership here at Trinity Klein means something to us. It’s not just an intellectual assent to formulaic principles. It is something that is to be believed and practiced. In July, we will look at our standard for GROW. “By Trinity Klein’s Standards … Worship”

- Pastor Chris Singer

Last month, we welcomed over 60 new people into membership here at Trinity Klein! It was so exciting for me to spend time introducing them to some of the core teachings of discipleship as they prepared to stand up publicly and profess their faith. They did so, and we welcomed them to the “team” here at Trinity Klein.

This is what we do all the time. These are the things for which we hold one another accountable.” (- Excerpt From: Mike Krzyzewski & Jamie K. Spatola. “The Gold Standard.”)

Maybe you’re already seeing what I see when I apply this here at Trinity.

The heart of this rule is to allow the attender to receive God’s means of grace through the preaching of the word and the sacraments.

This is the standard we live by according to God’s Word and enabled by His grace. This standard is something that each of us can own and practice. As I have often said, “Worship is a GET TO kind of thing!”

Heb. 10:25 encourages us to remain focused on this standard as it encourages us to not “…give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another - and all the more as we see the Day approaching.” The benefits to such standards are not just eternally reaching, they also provide daily and weekly love and support, strength and encouragement.

Membership here at Trinity Klein means something to us. It’s not just an intellectual assent to formulaic principles. It is something that is to be believed and practiced.

In July, we will look at our standard for GROW.

GriefShare TrainingHave you experienced the deep grief of losing a loved one to death? Have you learned valuable lessons and experienced healing from the hurt? Would you like to help others do the same?

If this describes you, please pray about becoming part of our church’s GriefShare ministry team. GriefShare is a 13-week, video based, small group seminar.

There are several places on the GriefShare team you could volunteer for, such as:• Greeter – Welcome participants• Refreshments committee – Shopping for, preparing, setting up, and putting away refreshments.• Facilitator – Begin as an apprentice or co-facilitator, working with other facilitators as you learn news skills and tools.

You do not need to be a counselor, teacher, or have a degree. You do need to have a personal relationship with Jesus, have a heart for serving people, and be led by God to help. You will not do this ministry alone but will be part of a team.

We will give you continued support as you minister to those facing the pain of grief. We will provide you with training you need. The GriefShare ministry materials offer those who are on the GriefShare ministry team a wealth of information and tools that will assist them.

Please consider being part of this much-needed ministry team. Come and hear more about this at a GriefShare training meeting on May 14, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in Trinity’s Family Life Center, room 204.

The Tuesday daytime GriefShare group will continue meeting beginning May 10 with Session 1 and will continue for the next 13 week sessions each Tuesday morning. 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary Reception Room.

Registration is online.

HELPING HANDS FROM TRINITY CARING FOR OUR COMMUNITY AFTER THE FLOODS

To stay up-to-date on how to assist ongoing needs of flood victims, or for assistance, visit www.trinityklein.org/events/houston-flood-relief/

There was a caravan of cars loaded down with baby items and hygiene kits to help flood victims the day after the storm.

Trinity volunteers helped organize supplies at Big Texas Storage with Spring Happenings.

KISD superintendent, Dr. Jim Cain, along with Chris & Janet Hogan, volunteered by sorting donations at the KISD Multipurpose Center.

Presleigh, a second grader at Trinity Lutheran, spent her birthday money on supplies to donate to help flood victims in our area.

Jean Smith’s grandson, C.J., helped sort through donations to make hygiene kits.

GOTrinity Furniture Ministry is collecting donated furniture and giving to needy families through our Benevolence Ministry. Since the Fall we have helped several single moms moving into apartments in our community. We are only collecting the following items: beds, dressers, nightstands, small table and chairs, couches and love seats. Drop offs are preferred but we can arrange pick ups if necessary. Please call 281-376-5773 or email Jennifer Kiel at [email protected] for more information.

Find donation and volunteer information on our website. You can go Online to EasyTithe to donate monetarily to the flood victims or make a check out to Trinity Lutheran Church with a note on the memo line for flood victims.

Keep our missionaries to Kenya in your prayers as we send teams May 26 - June 5 and May 30 - June 9. There are two separate groups of missionaries going this time! We want to lift them up and keep their safety and well-being in our prayers, as well as pray for the people of Kenya who will be receiving care for their eyes, and care for their soul.

News from Large Print MinistryTrinity’s Large Print ministry received a wonderful thank you letter from Mary Nell who lives in Washington state. She says “Thank you for sending me the Bible in Large Print. It is of a size I can read. There is nothing like the Word of God that helps a person in this life. Blessings and thanksgiving to your giving hearts. Lovingly in Christ, Mary Nell.”

Thanks to all of you for your donations of time and treasure to this mission. After our volunteers prepare 75 Large Print New Testaments for mailing each month, students from Trinity’s day school load them into a car and pray for those who are receiving them. In addition the January school chapel donations have paid for 50 of these New Testaments to be printed for those ordering them. Mary Nell is one of those people.

This is another example of our mission to reach the “tens of thousands-- so they can” read the word of God and know Christ as their Savior.

If you would like more information about this ministry please call Jean Webber, 281-923-6486.

Trinity Lutheran School ... YOUR SchoolGod is good! So many of our families were impacted by the “Flood of 2016,” but all survived and are back on track to the normalcy of everyday, hectic life.

It REALLY is that chaotic time of year ... the end of the year! Confirmation, field days, pool parties, and graduation are all right around the corner.

TLS students continue to WALK IN THE LIGHT. This has not only been our theme for the school year ... it has also been a way of life demonstrated by these children day in and day out.

Most recently, many of our students and families sprang into action to assist the Spring-Klein community by donating and sorting supplies for families that were devastated by the recent floods. While weather events like this one are always appalling, it is wonderful to see the Trinity Klein community rally. We truly are blessed to be a blessing to others.

As in the past, all are invited to our closing worship for the school year. Join us at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary on Friday, May 27.

School office hours for the summer will be as follows: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. We are also available by appointment.

Friends and family of Jake Hickford are teaming with Brennan’s Buddies for a summer toy drive. On May 26 we will be visiting the cancer floor at Texas Children’s Hospital to spread a little happiness. While many of us are planning summer vacations, swim competitions and outside activities, cancer kids will continue with their treatments, many of them staying inpatient for weeks. Jake and Brennan both have May birthdays so we do this in honor of them, bringing toys and birthday cake to the kids on the ninth floor. We invite you to help us bring some joy and fun to these kids by donating toys and gift cards. Toys must be new and please don’t forget the teens … they love iTunes, nail polish, spunky/quirky socks and slippers, adult coloring books, and cool decks of cards. Look for

the drop boxes placed on campus and THANK YOU!

Life Line Screening is Coming to TrinityLife Line screening is coming to Trinity on Monday, June 6. Any or all of the following tests will be available for those who register: carotid artery, heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral artery disease, and osteoporosis risk. To register and to receive a $10 discount, please call 888-653-6450 or visit www.LifeLineScreening.com/community-partners. For more information call Jean Webber at 281-923-6486.

Contribution InformationThe line that says “Building Fund” on the boxed envelopes, or on the blue pew envelopes is for the “So They Can…” capital campaign contributions. Many people are writing “So They Can…” on their envelopes, but it is the same thing as the Building Fund. The only exception is new members, as their envelopes are more generic and only have one line for operating, so they need to write a separate line for “So They Can…” Donors don’t need to write a separate check for each fund, as long as their split is noted on the check and/or offering envelope.

Don’t forget to pick up your Mother’s Day corsages on Main Street on May 8 if you ordered one

through Lutherans for Life!

“If you keep thinking of your life—which is utterly unique in the entire universe!—as a true gift, you will draw nearer to the Giver of that gift.”
